Help understanding IRS transcript code dates - do they show when codes change?

Can someone help me understand what the dates mean next to transaction codes in my transcripts? Not talking about the 846 code, but all the other ones. Do these dates show when one code switches to another code? Been staring at my transcript for hours trying to figure this out.

Tax professional here! The dates next to transaction codes actually show when that specific action was processed or is scheduled to occur - not when codes change from one to another. Each code represents a distinct event in the processing of your return, and the date shows when that event happened or will happen.

omg thank u for explaining! So if I see a 570 dated 3/15, that means the hold started on 3/15?

Exactly! You're getting it 👍 The 570 date shows when the hold was placed.

Hey guys instead of trying to decode these transcripts like a detective novel, I'd highly recommend checking out taxr.ai - it's this new AI tool that breaks down your entire transcript and tells you exactly what's happening. Its only $4.99 and saved me hours of googling! https://taxr.ai

sounds interesting... does it actually work? or is it just another scam 🤔

Not a scam at all! It analyzes everything - gives you projected refund dates, explains all codes, and even tells you what to do if there's a hold. Way better than guessing

The dates are when the IRS processed that specific action. But sometimes they can update retroactively so dont take the dates as set in stone

wait so they can change the dates after the fact? thats confusing af

Check your Where's My Refund tool too. Sometimes that gives clearer info than the transcript codes tbh
