Help Decoding My Transcript: 424 Examination Code with $6,550 EIC and Future-Dated Freeze/Unfreeze on Same Day (2/10/2025)

Need help making sense of my transcript codes. I'm seeing some confusing information on my IRS transcript and I'm trying to understand what's happening with my return. Here's what's showing on my transcript: 424 Examination Request 01-23-2025 $0.00 768 Earned income credit 04-16-2025 -$7,650.00 810 Refund freeze 02-10-2025 $0.00 811 Removed refund freeze 02-10-2025 $0.00 971 Notice issued 02-10-2025 $0.00 This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data I see a 424 (audit indicator) dated for January 23rd, but what's really throwing me off is the refund freeze (code 810) and its removal (code 811) are both dated the same day in the future (February 10th). There's also a notice coming (code 971) but that's dated ahead for February 10th too. My earned income credit of $7,650 shows with a date of April 16th. What does this sequence of codes actually mean? Is my refund being audited? Why would they put a freeze and remove it on the same day? And why are most of these dates in the future? Anyone experienced with IRS transcript codes able to decode what this means for my refund? I'm really confused about the timing of everything.

Tax specialist here. A 424 code doesn't always mean audit - it can also indicate a review process. Future dates are pretty common on transcripts, they're basically placeholder dates. The removal code being there actually suggests the review might be wrapping up soon. Keep an eye on your mail for that notice.

Yep totally normal! IRS systems are stuck in the stone age lol. They use those dates as processing markers

Hey, instead of playing detective with these codes, try taxr.ai - its this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats happening and when to expect your refund. Costs $4.99 but saved me hours of googling. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

After spending 6 months dealing with similar codes here's what I learned: dont panic about future dates they literally mean nothing. As long as you see that removal code youre probably good

Looking at your transcript, the 424 code with the freeze/unfreeze combo is actually a good sign! I had similar codes last year and it turned out to be routine verification of my EIC claim. The fact that codes 810 and 811 appear on the same date (2/10) suggests they're just cycling through their review process quickly. That $7,650 EIC amount is substantial so they're probably just double-checking your qualifying child info. The 971 notice will likely just confirm everything checks out. Don't stress about the future dates - the IRS computer system loves its weird timing quirks!
