Got an IRS notice about 2021 taxes - What to expect when calling?
Hey everyone, I just got a notice from the IRS about my 2021 taxes. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I expect when I call them? I'm kinda nervous about talking to them and want to be prepared.

Ugh, IRS notices are the worst. I got one last year and it was such a headache. Make sure you have all your tax documents ready when you call. They'll probably ask for specific info from your return.

Pro tip: write down everything they say during the call. It'll save you so much trouble later if you need to follow up or dispute something.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? 🤨

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I tried it and got through in like an hour instead of waiting all day.

20 bucks tho? Idk man, seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get it, but for me, it was worth not wasting an entire day on hold. Time is money, ya know? 💯

Listen up, OP. Here's what you need to know when dealing with the IRS: • Stay calm and be polite. The person on the other end is just doing their job. • Have all your documents ready. This includes your tax return, W-2s, 1099s, and the notice they sent you. • Take detailed notes during the call. Write down the agent's name and ID number. • Ask for clarification if you don't understand something. Don't be afraid to say "Can you explain that in simpler terms?" • If they're asking for money, don't agree to anything on the spot. Ask for time to review your options. • Remember, you have rights as a taxpayer. Look up the Taxpayer Bill of Rights before your call. • If you're not satisfied with the call, you can always ask to speak with a supervisor. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Anyone else feel like the IRS is just playing games with us? Like, why can't they just send a clear explanation instead of these cryptic notices? 🙄

Preach! 🙌 I swear they make it confusing on purpose

Conspiracy theory: they're all secretly employed by TurboTax to keep us confused and dependent on tax software 🤣

Hey OP, what exactly does the notice say? Sometimes they're just informational and don't require any action.

I've been dealing with an IRS issue for months now. My advice? Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every penny. Trust me, it'll save your butt if things get messy.
