Got My 846 Code! Direct Deposit Date Set for 2/24

Just wanted to share a quick update for those waiting on refunds. I filed on 1/24/25, got accepted on 1/27/25 (cycle 04), and my transcript now shows the 846 code with a direct deposit date of 2/24/25. Has anyone else with similar filing dates received their direct deposits yet? For those still waiting, what's your timeline looking like? Also, does anyone know if banks typically release funds early when they receive them from the IRS?

I filed on 1/22/25 and was accepted on 1/23/25. My transcript STILL doesn't show an 846 code as of today (2/15/25). I'm getting really worried because I need this money by March 1st for my rent deposit. Every day I check WMR and still just one bar. My cycle code is 05. Is there any way to speed this up or at least find out what's happening?

First, check if you have any credits like EIC or ACTC on your return. Those automatically put you into PATH Act territory which means the IRS holds your refund until at least February 15th. Second, look for any 570/971 codes on your transcript - those usually indicate some kind of review. Third, cycle code 05 typically updates on Thursdays/Fridays, so check again tomorrow morning.

This waiting game is like watching paint dry, isn't it? The IRS processing system is like a black box - we put our returns in and then just have to wait for something to come out the other side. Your cycle code 05 is actually pretty common this year, and many people with that code are seeing updates right around now. The system is just overwhelmed like a highway during rush hour.

Congrats on getting your DDD! That's a pretty quick turnaround - less than a month from filing to scheduled deposit. Have you checked with your bank to see if they might release it early? Some banks like Chime and Cash App are known to release tax refunds up to 5 days early, aren't they? Also, did you have any fees taken out of your refund for tax preparation? If so, have you confirmed whether the deposit is coming directly from the IRS or through a third-party bank first?

Omg ty for mentioning the bank thing! Totally forgot some banks release early. Just checked and my CU actually does this too! Got super excited and called them - they said they release as soon as they get the ACH, no holding period. Fingers crossed it comes before the weekend!

Your refund timeline is actually faster than average this year. I've been monitoring the Refund Disbursement Patterns from the IRS Master File and most cycle 04 filers are seeing 30-35 day processing times. If you need to verify anything about your refund status before the 24th, good luck getting through on the regular IRS channels. I tried calling 14 times last week and couldn't get past the automated system. Eventually used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to connect with an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my refund was actually scheduled for deposit 3 days earlier than WMR was showing.

Is this service actually legitimate? I've seen it mentioned but wasn't sure if it was worth paying for. Did they just connect you to the same IRS number I could call myself? I've been trying the regular line for days and keep getting the "high call volume" message.

Did the IRS agent provide any additional information beyond what was visible on your transcript? According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, representatives should be able to see processing notes that aren't visible to us. I'm wondering if it's worth calling.

It works. Used it twice. Worth every penny. Saved hours of redial hell. They use some tech to navigate the phone tree. You get a text when they're about to connect you. Agent confirmed my offset before WMR showed it.

The 846 code is your direct deposit confirmation. You should see the money hit your account on 2/24 or possibly earlier depending on your bank. Most major banks release IRS deposits on the actual date, but online banks often release 1-2 days early. Since you filed and were accepted in January, you avoided the major rush that's happening now. If you don't see the deposit by end of day on 2/24, check your tax transcript again for any changes before calling the IRS.

Based on your Cycle Code 04 and the 846 refund issued date, you're exactly on the standard IRS processing timeline for non-complex returns. The Direct Deposit Date (DDD) shown on your transcript with code 846 is the official date the Treasury will release the ACH payment to your financial institution. The Automated Clearing House (ACH) typically processes these transactions within 24-48 hours, though weekends and holidays can extend this timeframe. Your bank's funds availability policy will determine when you can access the money after they receive it.

I'm so happy for you! 😊 I was in the exact same boat last year - filed January 25th, accepted January 27th, and got my 846 code showing February 23rd deposit date. I was checking my bank account literally every hour! The money actually hit my account on February 22nd around 3pm. I was so relieved because I had been stressing about it for weeks! The waiting is the hardest part, but you're almost there! Just one more week to go!
