Form 1095-A Issues Causing Delays - WMR and Transcripts Show Nothing
I'm dealing with a frustrating Form 1095-A situation and would appreciate any insights: • Filed my return on 1/21/2024 • IRS requested my Form 1095-A information (didn't realize I needed to include it) • Submitted the requested form immediately • Was told to wait 30 days for processing • Called again and was told to wait ANOTHER 30 days • My 60-day waiting period ends on April 8th Has anyone else experienced delays with Form 1095-A issues? Both Where's My Refund and my transcripts show no updates whatsoever. I'm trying to be patient but this is getting ridiculous when caring for others depends on this refund.

I went through this exact situation in February! Here's what happened: 1. Filed in January with marketplace insurance 2. Forgot to include 1095-A information 3. IRS requested the missing form 4. Submitted it right away 5. Waited about 45 days total with no updates 6. Finally received my refund last week The key is that once they request additional information, your return goes into a special processing queue that takes longer. The 30-day timeframe they give is often extended because they're overwhelmed. So relieved when mine finally processed!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! I have a few follow-up questions: • Did your WMR status change at all during the waiting period? • Did you receive any additional notices after sending the 1095-A? • How long before your deposit date did your transcript update?

•Important clarification. The 1095-A processing delay is common. Marketplace insurance requires reconciliation. System flags these returns. Special review team handles them. Not an audit. Just verification. Expect 45-60 days total. Check transcript weekly not daily.

Oh my goodness, the 1095-A delays are THE WORST this year! I feel your pain so deeply. I've found that calling the Marketplace directly (not the IRS) can sometimes help speed things up! They can verify your information was correctly transmitted and sometimes identify issues before the IRS does. I was so frustrated waiting, but when I called the Marketplace, they found a discrepancy that was causing my delay and helped me correct it right away!

•That's actually a really smart approach. Never thought about calling the Marketplace directly. *slaps forehead* Makes perfect sense though - they're the source of the form in the first place! Might save everyone a few weeks of anxiety. I'll have to remember this one for next year... or hopefully never need it again if I can get my insurance situation figured out. 😅

•When you called the Marketplace, did they require any specific information to look up your case? Did they need your actual 1095-A form number? And how long after you called them did you see movement on your return?

Look, the IRS phone lines are a complete waste of time right now. I spent 3 hours on hold last week only to be disconnected. If you need to actually talk to someone, just use Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). They'll call the IRS for you and get you connected to an agent without the wait. I was skeptical at first, but after my third disconnection trying to reach someone about my 1095-A issue, I gave in. Got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed my form was received and gave me an actual timeline.

•Isn't that just another expense on top of already waiting for money that's rightfully yours? How much does that service even cost compared to just being patient? Seems like everyone's trying to profit off our tax frustrations these days.

•Per IRS Restructuring and Reform Act section 3705, taxpayers have right to timely resolution. Average wait times currently exceed 45 minutes according to TIGTA report 2024-01. Service that reduces this wait is legitimate efficiency tool. Time value calculation makes sense for many taxpayers.

Isn't it crazy how they expect us to know EVERYTHING about tax forms, but then make us wait forever when we miss something? I had the exact same issue with my 1095-A last year. You know what's frustrating? They told me to wait 30 days, then another 30 days, and guess what? It took exactly 63 days from when I submitted the form until I got my refund. Why can't they just be honest about the timeline? And why doesn't the WMR tool show ANY information during this process?

I've tracked 37 cases of 1095-A delays this tax season in my tax preparation practice. The average processing time is 52.3 days from the date the form is received by the IRS. Specifically for returns filed in January 2024, we're seeing processing complete in exactly 56 days on average. Your April 8th timeline is actually fairly accurate based on current patterns. The verification process includes 3 distinct steps: document matching (14-17 days), premium tax credit calculation verification (21-24 days), and final review (10-12 days). Stay calm and expect movement around day 50.

•I remember going through this last year with my mother's return. We submitted her 1095-A in February and waited nearly 8 weeks for processing. The anxiety of waiting without updates is the worst part. Have you noticed if returns with larger premium tax credit amounts take longer? I'm wondering if the dollar amount affects processing time.

OMG this 1095-A stuff is a NIGHTMARE rn. Had the same prob last yr. WMR stayed on "received" for like 2 months w/ no updates. Tbh the transcripts are more reliable but even those don't update reg. The worst part? When they finally processed mine, I got the refund w/o ANY notice! Just randomly checked my bank acct one day and boom, there it was. No status change, no email, nothing. Might wanna set up alerts on your bank acct just in case. The whole system's kinda broken ngl.

You might want to consider contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service if your 60-day deadline passes without resolution. They can sometimes, though not always, help move things along when there are significant delays affecting your financial wellbeing. I believe they generally prioritize cases where you're facing possible financial hardship, so if you're in a caregiving role and depending on this refund, they might be able to assist. Just be prepared to provide some documentation of the hardship if requested.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed 1/28, got the 1095-A request in February, submitted it immediately, and I'm still waiting. What's really frustrating is that my transcript shows absolutely nothing - like my return doesn't even exist in their system. I've called three times and gotten three different timelines: 30 days, 45 days, and "up to 16 weeks." The inconsistency is maddening when you're depending on that refund for essential expenses. Has anyone had luck getting a more definitive timeline by asking to speak to a supervisor or specific department?

•I'm dealing with almost the exact same timeline as you! Filed 1/30, got the 1095-A request in early February, submitted it right away, and I'm still in limbo. The transcript thing is SO frustrating - it's like our returns just vanished into thin air. I've also gotten wildly different timelines from different representatives (anywhere from 6-16 weeks), which makes it impossible to plan anything. From what I've read in other threads, asking for a supervisor sometimes helps get a more realistic timeline, but it doesn't seem to actually speed up the process. The waiting is absolutely brutal when you're counting on that money. Hang in there - hopefully we'll both see movement soon!

I'm in a very similar boat and it's incredibly stressful! Filed 1/24, got the 1095-A request in mid-February, submitted it the same day, and now I'm approaching week 7 with absolutely no movement. What's driving me crazy is that the IRS representatives keep saying "your return is processing" but can't give any specifics about what stage it's actually in or when it might complete. I've been checking my transcript every Friday (trying not to obsess daily) and it still shows nothing. Based on what others have shared here, it sounds like we're all in that 50-60 day window that seems to be the norm this year. I'm trying to stay optimistic that we'll see movement in the next couple weeks, but the lack of transparency from the IRS makes it so much harder to plan financially. Hoping we all get some good news soon!

•This is my first time dealing with a 1095-A delay and honestly, reading everyone's experiences here is both reassuring and terrifying! I'm only at week 3 since submitting my form, but seeing that most people are waiting 7-8 weeks minimum has me preparing for the long haul. What I don't understand is why the IRS can't just be upfront about these timelines from the start - telling people "30 days" when they know it's really 50-60 days just creates unnecessary stress and phone calls that clog up their system even more. At least now I know not to expect anything until mid-to-late April. Thanks for sharing your timeline - it helps to know we're all in this together!
