First time filing in 3 years + claiming child - When to expect refund?
Haven't filed taxes in 3 years because I wasn't working. Finally worked all of 2024 and just filed. Also claiming my child as a dependent. Will this cause delays? Should I expect to wait until after February or could I hear something sooner?

Since you're claiming a child and haven't filed in 3 years, your return will likely go through extra verification. The IRS typically starts processing returns with child tax credits in late January/early February. Your best bet is to expect it after February.

ugh that's what I was afraid of 😩 do you know how long the extra verification usually takes?

It varies, but usually adds 2-6 weeks to processing time. Just make sure you have all your documentation ready if they request it.

Hey there! I was in a similar situation last year. The best thing I did was use taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It costs $4.99 but totally worth it - gave me exact timeline predictions and explained all the verification steps. Way better than guessing or asking around tbh. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

100% legit! It caught stuff in my transcript I would've never noticed. Predicted my refund date down to the exact week!

How does it work exactly? Does it just read the transcript or what?

It uses AI to analyze everything - looks at all codes, dates, amounts, prior year info. Even tells you if theres potential delays and how to fix them. Best $5 I ever spent on taxes fr fr 💯

The not filing for 3 years is def gonna trigger some flags. They might wanna verify your identity and the child's info too.

what kind of verification do they usually ask for?

Usually proof of residence, birth certificate for the kid, school records - basic stuff to prove the dependent claim is legit

Heads up - if you qualify for EIC with the child, that could add more processing time too. Those credits get extra scrutiny.
