Filed through Chime but IRS hasn't received it - Can I file with another company?
So I e-filed through Chime about 3 weeks ago, but when I check the Where's My Refund tool, it says the IRS hasn't received my return yet. This is ridiculous! 🙄 I need that refund to cover some medical bills that are piling up. At this point, I'm wondering if I can just file through TurboTax or H&R Block instead? I know I have the right to get my refund in a timely manner, and waiting around isn't helping my situation. Anyone dealt with this before? (And yes, I've triple-checked my SSN and all that stuff when checking the status.

I had something similar happen to me last year. The IRS systems can be frustratingly slow to update sometimes. Before you file again, I'd recommend checking a few things: 1. Confirm your e-file was actually accepted by Chime (not just submitted) 2. Check your email for any rejection notices 3. Call Chime's tax support to verify the status on their end Filing twice could create a huge headache - I've seen cases where people ended up with duplicate filings that took months to resolve.

•Good advice. How long should they wait before taking action? Two weeks? Three?

•Appreciate the structured approach here. The e-file acceptance confirmation is particularly critical as it contains the Declaration Control Number (DCN) which confirms IRS receipt. Without that, the transmission may have failed at the intermediary level.

•According to IRS Publication 1345 (Rev. 1-2023), "If you don't receive acknowledgment of your electronic submission within 48 hours, contact the IRS e-file Help Desk." I always tell clients to wait 72 hours max before investigating transmission issues.

I'm not sure filing with another company is the best move... I would be careful about submitting a second return. Maybe try checking your account transcript on the IRS website instead of just WMR? Sometimes the transcript shows processing activity even when WMR hasn't updated yet. Just my two cents.

•Thanks for suggesting the transcript check! I always forget about that option and it's saved me from panicking multiple times.

Whatever you do, DON'T file twice! I did that last year when my first return seemed to disappear into the void. Ended up with both returns being processed, got flagged for review, and didn't get my refund until August. The IRS sent me all these notices about potential fraud even though it was just me being impatient. Not worth the stress, especially if you're already dealing with medical stuff.

Ugh, been there w/ the "IRS hasn't received" msg. Super annoying! Tried calling IRS direct line like 20x and couldn't get thru. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got connected to an actual human in like 15 mins. Agent confirmed my return WAS actually in their system despite WMR saying otherwise. Apparently WMR isn't always synced w/ their internal systems. Saved me from filing twice and creating a HUGE mess.

•I'm always skeptical about these services that charge you to reach a government agency. Isn't there a free way to contact the IRS? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay just to talk to someone about our taxes.

•Thank you! Just tried calling the regular IRS number and got the dreaded "high call volume" message. Need to figure this out ASAP since I'm counting on my refund this month.

•Did you have to provide any personal info to this Claimyr service? I checked the WMR on March 15th and again today (April 4th) with no update, so I'm getting worried.

Have you tried checking your Chime account activity for any messages about your tax filing? Unlike traditional banks where tax refunds just appear, Chime sometimes has specific notifications about tax deposits. It's similar to how direct deposits from employers show up differently than transfers. I'd recommend contacting Chime support directly - they can often tell you if there was an issue with the transmission to the IRS that wouldn't show up elsewhere.

•I'm surprised by how complicated this all is. I checked my Chime account and found exactly 3 messages about my tax filing that I completely missed. Thanks for pointing this out!

Last year I was in the same boat with Cash App Taxes. The WMR tool showed nothing for almost a month! I was about to file again when—boom—suddenly my refund appeared. Sometimes their systems just take forever to update. I'd give it until at least 21 days after filing before doing anything drastic. The IRS is still catching up from their pandemic backlog (aren't we all?). Hang in there!

I'm very budget-conscious and understand wanting that refund ASAP. Here's what I'd do in your situation: Step 1: Contact Chime support specifically about tax filing status Step 2: Check IRS transcript (not just WMR) for any activity Step 3: If no updates after 21 days, call IRS directly at 800-829-1040 Step 4: Only consider re-filing if IRS confirms they have no record of your return I'm a bit worried that filing twice could delay your refund even longer, which doesn't help with those medical bills.

Have you considered that this might actually be a blessing in disguise? If you file again with a different company, wouldn't that just create more confusion in the system? And what happens if both returns suddenly get processed? Would the IRS think you're trying to claim twice? Sometimes patience, while frustrating, is the best approach with tax matters, wouldn't you agree?

I went through something very similar with FreeTaxUSA last year. After 4 weeks of "not received" on WMR, I was ready to file again too. Here's what saved me from making a huge mistake: 1. **Get your IRS transcript first** - Go to irs.gov and create an account to view your 2024 transcript. This shows WAY more detail than WMR and updates faster. 2. **Check for ACK (acknowledgment) from Chime** - Look for an email or notification with your submission ID. If you have this, the IRS definitely received it. 3. **21-day rule is real** - The IRS legally has 21 days to process e-filed returns. You're at 3 weeks, so you're right at the edge. DO NOT file twice! I almost did and my tax preparer warned me it would create a "duplicate return" flag that could delay your refund by months. Since you need this money for medical bills, that's the last thing you want. If the transcript shows nothing after checking this weekend, then call the IRS Monday morning at 7am sharp (800-829-1040) when call volume is lowest. Good luck!

•This is really helpful advice! I'm new to filing taxes and didn't even know about the IRS transcript option. Quick question - when you create an account on irs.gov to check the transcript, do you need any special documents or just basic info like SSN and address? I want to make sure I have everything ready before I try to set it up.
