Filed on Feb 23rd - Stuck in 'Still Processing' Since Feb 29th - How to Actually Reach IRS?
I filed my taxes on February 23rd and need some help figuring out what's going on: ā¢ Return was accepted February 24th ā¢ WMR status has been stuck on "still processing" since February 29th ā¢ Tried calling IRS multiple times but can't get through to an actual person ā¢ H&R Block (who prepared my return) says everything should be fine but can't explain the delay Does anyone know a better way to actually reach someone at the IRS? This is my first time having this issue and I'm not sure what else to try.

This happened to me last year too. I filed in early February and got stuck in processing for almost 6 weeks! What finally worked was calling the IRS at exactly 7:00 AM Eastern when they first open. I had to try this three days in a row, but on the third day I got through after only a 25-minute wait. They told me my return was just in a standard review queue and nothing was wrong. Got my refund about 10 days after that call.

According to IRS Publication 5344, normal processing time is supposed to be 21 days for e-filed returns! I'm in the same boat and desperately need my refund to cover some urgent bills. Did they give you any specific reason for the delay when you finally reached them?

Did your transcript show any TC 570/971 combo codes during this waiting period? Those typically indicate a manual review is underway. The 570 freezes the account temporarily while the 971 indicates a notice has been generated.

I think I might be experiencing something similar... When you called, did they mention anything about identity verification being a potential cause? I'm wondering if perhaps that's what's happening with mine, though I haven't received any letters yet.

I filed on February 25th and I'm still waiting too. When you finally got your refund, did it come with interest? I've heard they're supposed to pay interest if it takes longer than 45 days after April 15th, but I'm not sure if that's accurate for 2024 returns.

Hey there, I've been thru this b4. Try calling the IRS taxpayer advocate svc at 1-877-777-4778 instead of the main number. Sometimes they can help when ur stuck in processing limbo. Also, check ur transcript online if u can access it - might show codes that explain the delay. Tbh tho, it's still early in tax season & they're prob just backed up. H&R Block is probs right that everything's fine, just slow af this yr.

You might want to check your transcript if you haven't already. It typically provides more detailed information than the WMR tool. I've found that using https://taxr.ai can be really helpful for interpreting what's on your transcript. It analyzes all those cryptic codes and explains what they actually mean for your specific situation. In many cases, the transcript will show processing steps that WMR doesn't display, which could possibly give you some peace of mind about where things stand.

According to the IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/refunds), processing can take up to 8 weeks in some cases, even when there are no issues with your return. I appreciate the suggestions others have shared here! One thing to check is if you claimed any refundable credits like EITC or ACTC - those automatically trigger additional review time due to the PATH Act requirements. This isn't mentioned on the WMR tool but is explained in their FAQs section.

I've been in your shoes and found a solution that actually works! The IRS phone system is basically the final boss of annoying phone trees š. I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) last month when I was in the same situation and it got me connected to an actual human being in about 25 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. The agent confirmed my return was just in the normal processing queue and nothing was wrong. Totally worth it for the peace of mind alone. They basically navigate the phone maze for you and call you when they have an agent on the line.

Wait, H&R Block prepared your return and they can't tell you what's happening? That's surprising. Here's what you should do: 1. First, create an account on IRS.gov if you don't have one already 2. Pull your tax transcript (this shows backend processing) 3. Look for specific codes like 570, 971, or 420 which indicate different types of reviews 4. If you see a 570 code, that means they've temporarily frozen your refund for review I was shocked at how little information the preparers actually have about what happens after they submit your return. They basically just see the same WMR status you do.
