Filed Yesterday with EITC and CTC - Should I Expect Standard 21 Days?
I filed on March 22nd and have both Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. Should I expect it to just be the standard 21 days at this point? Normally I'm an early filer (usually January 24th-ish) but didn't bother this year since I knew I'd have to wait until at least mid-February for processing to start with these credits.

Yes, at this point you're looking at the standard 21-day processing window. The PATH Act delay that affects EITC/CTC returns only impacts early filers who submit before February 15th. Since you filed on March 22nd, your return isn't subject to that mandatory hold period. Based on current IRS processing metrics, approximately 90% of refunds are issued within 21 days, with the average being 18 days for e-filed returns with direct deposit. Your refund timing should be relatively predictable now.

•So basically I timed it perfectly by procrastinating? Ha! Sometimes laziness pays off. So if I filed yesterday, I should see something by mid-April?

•I'm so relieved to hear this! I was worried I'd have to wait longer because of the credits. I really need this money soon for some car repairs and was stressing about the timing. 😓

•This is excellent information. I appreciate the precise breakdown of the timing expectations. The distinction between the PATH Act hold period and standard processing is crucial for understanding refund timelines.

While you're likely looking at a standard timeline now, be aware that EITC/CTC returns still have a slightly higher verification rate throughout tax season. If you do encounter any unexpected delays, Claimyr can connect you directly to an IRS agent without the hours of hold time. I used it last year when my return with similar credits got stuck in verification. You can check them out at https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c - they got me through to an agent in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The IRS agent was able to verify my identity and release my refund during that call.

According to the IRS.gov refund status page, does filing after the PATH Act deadline guarantee no additional delays? I've been reading conflicting information on different forums about whether EITC/CTC returns get additional scrutiny regardless of filing date.

•From my experience as a tax professional, the PATH Act mandates the February 15th hold for EITC/CTC returns, but these credits do receive additional verification throughout the season. The difference is that early filers face a mandatory hold, while later filers like yourself may still undergo verification, but it's concurrent with normal processing. Approximately 25-30% of EITC/CTC returns receive additional review regardless of filing date.

I had the same credits last year and used taxr.ai to track my refund progress. It analyzed my transcript and explained all the codes that showed up. Really helped me understand exactly what was happening with my return instead of just guessing. Check it out if you want to know exactly where your return stands in the process once it starts updating.

I filed on March 1st with EITC and I'm STILL waiting. The 21-day estimate is really more like 30+ days for many people with credits. My sister filed a basic return with no credits on March 10th and already got her refund last week. The system definitely treats credit claims differently compared to simple returns.

•Did you have to provide any additional verification for your EITC? Last year they made me upload documents to prove my income, and that added about 2 weeks to my processing time.

•I filed on February 28th with EITC and received my refund on March 18th - exactly 18 days later. I'm impressed with how the IRS has improved their processing this year compared to the backlog nightmares of 2021-2022!

•Got mine in 16 days. Filed March 5. Had both credits. No issues. Really depends on your return I think.

I think the estimates are... generally accurate, but there's always exceptions. My return with EITC actually processed faster than expected this year, which was a nice surprise after hearing all the horror stories. I'd say plan for 21 days but don't be shocked if it takes a bit longer.

Has anyone noticed if filing in the evening versus morning makes any difference? Or does the day of the week matter at all for how quickly they start processing?
