Filed 2/1 with EIC - WMR Stuck at 'Received' with Topic 152. Anyone else?
I filed on February 1st with Earned Income Credit and the Where's My Refund site has been stuck at 'Return Received' with Tax Topic 152 for over 3 weeks now. My sister filed a week after me and already got her refund! Is this normal for EIC filers? My husband and I just got married last year, so this is our first time filing jointly. Has anyone else been stuck at this stage? Starting to wonder if I should be worried...

EIC returns always take longer. Path Act delays those returns. Nothing unusual about your situation. Been waiting for mine too. Filed January 29th. Still on first bar. Topic 152 is just general info. Not a bad sign.

I might be in a similar situation, I think. Filed with EIC on January 31st and I'm possibly still waiting as well. The Path Act seems to potentially add an extra 2-3 weeks to processing time from what I've read, although I'm not entirely certain about that timeframe.

Exactly this! I filed January 27th with EIC and it took until March 15th to get my refund. The IRS specifically holds EIC returns until February 15th to verify income. This happens every year like clockwork!

This is 100% normal for EIC claims. The PATH Act requires extra verification: ā¢ All EIC returns are held until at least Feb 15th ā¢ Additional verification can take 2-4 weeks after that ā¢ Topic 152 just means your return involves tax credits ā¢ WMR often doesn't update until just before deposit You're right on schedule, nothing to worry about!

Did you check your transcripts? I filed exactly 24 days ago with EIC and my transcript updated 6 days before WMR did. My WMR was stuck at the first bar for exactly 22 days before changing. Have you tried calling the IRS?

Accessing your Account Transcript is definitely the superior method for monitoring refund status. WMR utilizes a simplified algorithm that frequently lags behind the actual processing milestones. The transcript will display cycle codes and transaction dates that provide more actionable intelligence.

I understand how frustrating this waiting period can be. Let me explain what's happening: Step 1: Due to the PATH Act, all returns with EIC are held until at least February 15th for additional verification. Step 2: After that date, processing typically takes 2-3 additional weeks. Step 3: WMR often doesn't update until final processing is complete. If you need to speak with an actual IRS agent about your specific situation, I'd recommend using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). It saved me hours of hold time when I was in your exact situation last year. They connect you directly to an IRS agent who can see exactly what's happening with your return, which is much more helpful than guessing based on WMR.

Have u tried checking ur transcripts instead? Sometimes WMR doesn't update but transcripts show everything. U can make an acct on IRS website and see if there's any movement there. Might show DDD even when WMR is stuck.

I just tried looking at my transcripts but it says N/A for 2023. Does that mean they haven't even started processing my return yet?

Wait, so we're supposed to look at 2023 transcripts for 2024 filing season? The IRS website is so confusing sometimes š¤¦āāļø I've been checking the wrong year this whole time!

I'm somewhat skeptical about all these "normal processing time" explanations. While it's possibly true that EIC returns might take longer, in my experience, when WMR gets stuck at the first bar for more than about 21 days, there's usually some kind of issue that might need addressing. It could potentially be something minor like a verification check, but it might also indicate a possible mathematical error or perhaps an income verification problem. Not to cause unnecessary worry, but it might be worth considering calling to check.

According to the IRS.gov website and several tax forums I've been following, Topic 152 is actually a good sign! It just means you're getting a refund and there are tax credits involved. The IRS2Go app shows the same information as WMR but sometimes updates faster. I was panicking too until I learned that with EIC, this delay is completely normal. The PATH Act was specifically created to give the IRS extra time to verify income for credit claims.
