Direct Deposit Date of 2/24 but Still No Refund - Anyone Else Waiting?

So I'm seeing all these posts from people complaining about having DDD of 2/25-2/26 and not getting their money yet... man, I've had a DDD of 2/24 and still nothing in my account! This is my first time filing as head of household after my spouse deployed, and I'm trying not to stress. When I was growing up, my dad (also military) always said tax refunds were like military pay - it'll get there when it gets there. But I really could use this for some repairs before my spouse gets back. Anyone else with 2/24 date still waiting? Can we work together to figure out what's going on?

I had a DDD of 2/22 and just got my deposit yesterday (2/27). The IRS usually gives themselves a 5-day window after your direct deposit date. I was panicking because I need to pay my mortgage by March 1st. Hang in there - it should hit your account by tomorrow or Friday at the latest!

Wait, so is it 5 business days or 5 calendar days? My DDD was 2/23 and I'm still waiting. Last year I got it exactly on my DDD, but this year everything seems delayed.

The 5-day window is business days in most cases. The IRS sends the payment instruction on your DDD, but then it depends on: 1. Your bank's processing time 2. Whether the IRS batched your payment with others 3. Whether there were any verification flags Military banks like USAA and Navy Federal sometimes release funds early, while traditional banks might hold them for 1-3 business days.

Thank you SO MUCH for this explanation! I've been freaking out because I'm supposed to close on my house next week and I need this money for closing costs! 😰 This makes me feel a bit better about the timeline.

Have you checked your tax transcript to confirm the DDD is still 2/24? Sometimes they update it without notification. Also, which bank do you use? Some banks hold IRS deposits longer than others.

This is good advice. I've seen my DDD change twice this season: • Originally 2/15 • Updated to 2/22 • Finally processed on 2/26 Always good to double-check the transcript rather than rely on the initial date.

Facts! My CU actually held my refund for 2 days b4 releasing it. Transcript said DDD 2/21 but $ didn't hit account til 2/23. Def depends on ur financial institution.

Are there specific banks known for processing IRS refunds faster? I've heard some credit unions are better than major banks for this.

Yes, I'm waiting too. DDD of 2/24. Transcript hasn't changed. Called my bank. They don't see anything pending. Frustrating situation. Will update when it arrives.

I went through this exact situation last tax season. It's like waiting for a pizza delivery - they give you an estimated time but it can still take longer. After three days of constantly calling the IRS and getting nowhere, I finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). It's like having a FastPass at Disney World for the IRS phone lines. Got through to an agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed my refund was actually scheduled for deposit the next day - there was just a processing delay they could see on their end but wasn't showing on my transcript. Saved me days of stress and uncertainty.

Does this service actually work? I've seen it mentioned before but I'm always skeptical of paid services when the IRS phone line is technically free. What exactly do they do that you can't do yourself?

Not the original commenter, but I used Claimyr last year when my refund was a month late. It was worth every penny. I had spent HOURS redailing the IRS only to get the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. Claimyr got me through in about 20 minutes. The agent I spoke with was able to release a hold on my account that I didn't even know existed. Got my refund 3 days later.

Has anyone with a 2/24 DDD who banks with Chase received their refund yet? I'm starting to think certain banks are slower than others. My sister has the same DDD but uses a credit union and got hers Monday.

I have Chase and had a 2/22 DDD. Money appeared exactly 3 business days later. Their system seems to hold tax refunds for review, unlike some credit unions that release funds immediately.

Does anyone know if you can call your bank to push the deposit through faster? Or are we completely at their mercy once the IRS sends it?

According to IRS Publication 2043, direct deposits can take up to 5 business days after the scheduled date to appear in your account. If you don't receive your refund by March 2nd (which would be 5 business days after your 2/24 DDD), then you should contact the IRS directly. I'm in the same boat with a 2/25 DDD and I'm watching my account like a hawk because I've got a car payment coming up.

The bank delay thing is real. Last year my state refund came right on time but my federal was 3 days late. Both had the same DDD. This year, I have a 2/26 DDD for federal and still waiting while my state refund (which had a later DDD of 3/1) already arrived yesterday. Makes no sense!
