Code 290 updated with 10/28 as-of date on amended return - what happens next?

Finally got movement with a code 290 update and as-of date changed to 10/28. Been stuck since March with freeze date 3/07 and verification done 3/21. Anyone know what comes next in the process? Also wondering if amended returns always come as checks instead of direct deposit?

The 290 code is just a way of the IRS acknowledging your return and any adjustments. With your timeline, you should see movement within 2-3 weeks. Amended returns are almost always issued as paper checks for security reasons. Keep an eye out for code 846 - that's your refund issued code.

Not always true about the check thing. I got DD for my amended last month!

That's interesting about the DD! Must be a new thing they're testing out. Good to know!

Hey guys instead of playing detective with these transcript codes, I started using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer. For $1 it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect your refund. Way better than guessing tbh https://taxr.ai

Dead serious! It told me exactly when my refund would hit and it was spot on. The AI breaks down every code and gives you a clear timeline.

Code 290 is definitely a good sign! It means they've processed your amended return and made adjustments. The 10/28 as-of date usually indicates when they expect to complete processing. From what I've seen, most people get their 846 refund code within 2-4 weeks after the 290 appears. And yeah, amended returns typically come as paper checks for security reasons, though I've heard some people are getting direct deposits now. Keep checking your transcripts - you should see movement soon!

This is super helpful! I'm in a similar situation and have been wondering about the timeline. Question though - when you say "checking transcripts" where exactly do you check those? I'm pretty new to all this IRS stuff and still figuring out where to find all the different codes and updates.
