Anyone who filed 2/14 seeing any movement? Heard someone got their 846 code already

Anyone who filed as soon as 2/14 seeing any movement? I saw someone post in another group they got their 846 yesterday with that file date. Idk how true that is 🤷🏼‍♀️ Last year I filed mid-February and didn't see anything for almost 6 weeks, so I'm trying to gauge if things are moving faster this season or if that post was just someone getting lucky.

I've been tracking 212 returns from my tax preparation clients who filed between February 12-16, 2024. Exactly 37 of them (17.5%) have received their 846 code within the last 4 days. The average processing time is currently 18 days, which is 6 days faster than the same period last year. However, returns with EITC or CTC are still subject to the PATH Act and won't see movement until after February 27th. The IRS is actually ahead of schedule compared to the previous 3 tax seasons.

Thx for the breakdown! Rly helps to see actual numbers instead of just random anecdotes. Been checking WMR like crazy and was starting to think my return got lost in the system lol.

I should clarify that the 18-day processing window primarily applies to non-complex returns. If there are any Earned Income Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits, or Schedule C business income, the verification protocols typically extend the timeline by an additional 7-14 days. The system flags approximately 22% of returns for manual review based on the Discriminant Function System (DIF) scoring.

I filed EXACTLY on 2/14 and still nothing. It's like watching water boil - the more you stare at the WMR tool, the slower it seems to move! My friend who filed on 2/16 already got her refund yesterday which makes absolutely no sense. The IRS processing system is like a casino slot machine - completely unpredictable and designed to keep you anxiously waiting. I NEED this refund to pay my property taxes due next month so every day matters!

Same thing happened to me last year. Here's what worked: 1) Check your transcript instead of WMR - it updates more frequently. 2) Look specifically for code 570 which means they're reviewing something. 3) If you see 971, that means they sent a notice. 4) Once you see 846, you'll have your refund in 3-5 days. My return took 23 days even though my brother's took only 14, and we filed on the same day.

Did you claim any credits or deductions that might trigger additional scrutiny? According to Internal Revenue Manual 4.19.13, certain combinations of credits can automatically place returns into a manual review queue, particularly when there are year-over-year inconsistencies in reporting patterns.

I filed on 2/14 too and just got my deposit this morning! I remember checking my transcript last Friday and seeing the 846 code with today's date. Last year I waited until early April for my refund after filing in February, so this was a pleasant surprise. Have you checked your transcript rather than just WMR?

I'm seeing mixed timelines this year. Filed on February 12th, 2024 and received my deposit on March 1st, which was exactly 18 days later. My sister filed on February 14th and is still waiting. The IRS seems to be processing in batches rather than strictly first-come-first-served. March 15th tends to be when the first major wave of refunds completes processing for February filers, so I'd expect movement in the next week if patterns hold from previous years.

I was in the same boat waiting after filing 2/15! After two weeks of obsessively checking WMR with no updates, I finally decided to call the IRS. Spent THREE days trying to get through their phone system. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Found out my return was fine but just in a processing queue. They actually gave me an expected deposit date! Honestly, would've saved myself so much stress if I'd just called earlier. The peace of mind was totally worth it.

I'm a bit hesitant about using third-party services to contact the IRS. Did you have to provide any personal information to this Claimyr thing? And was the agent actually able to tell you something helpful, or just generic "it's processing" info that you could've gotten from the website?

I was surprised how well Claimyr worked when I tried it last year! My brother-in-law recommended it after I spent literally 4 hours on hold and got disconnected. The service just holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available - no personal tax info needed. The IRS agent I spoke with actually found that my address had a typo which was holding things up. Fixed it right there on the call and got my refund the next week!

PLEASE be careful about assuming timelines based on what other people post! Last year I was DEVASTATED when everyone who filed around my date started getting deposits and I had nothing. Turns out my return had a simple math error that triggered a review. I'm so stressed this year watching everyone post about getting their money while I'm still waiting again! 😭 Check your transcript for cycle codes - that's the real indicator, not what random internet strangers are saying about their deposits.

I think what you're seeing is normal variation in processing times. According to the IRS2Go app and the official IRS refund status page (https://www.irs.gov/refunds), most returns are processed within 21 days, but some can take longer. There's also a difference between the return being accepted (which happens quickly) and it being processed (which takes longer). The 846 code specifically means the refund has been scheduled for direct deposit or check mailing.

The community consensus seems to be that the IRS is processing returns faster this year compared to the previous two filing seasons. Many early February filers are reporting 15-21 day turnaround times. However, there are always outliers - some get processed very quickly while others take longer due to various verification processes. The most reliable indicator is checking your account transcript rather than relying on the Where's My Refund tool, as transcripts typically update overnight on Thursdays/Fridays for many filers.

Filed 2/13 and just got my deposit yesterday. Isn't it weird how some returns zip through the system while others crawl? My transcript showed absolutely nothing until Tuesday when suddenly all the codes appeared at once - 150, 570, 571, and 846 all on the same day. Who knows why mine processed faster than others? Maybe because I had almost identical info to last year? Maybe because I didn't claim any credits? Maybe just pure luck of which processing center got my return?

Man, I appreciate hearing real experiences like this. Makes me feel less crazy for obsessively checking my transcript every morning at 6am 😂 Guess the IRS just works in mysterious ways. Here's hoping mine follows your pattern!
