Anyone Have Updates on Amended Returns for 2023?

Hey tax folks, I'm wondering if perhaps anyone might have received any updates on their amended returns recently? I filed a 1040-X back in February to correct some child tax credit issues, and I'm sort of still waiting for any movement. Trying to juggle this along with summer camp registrations and everything else on my plate is getting a bit overwhelming, but I'd really like to understand what timeframe I should possibly be expecting. Would appreciate hearing about others' experiences, if you don't mind sharing!

OMG the amended return process is BRUTAL this year!! ๐Ÿ˜ซ I'm on week 16 of waiting and nothing has changed on my transcript! The IRS website claims 16 weeks processing time but I've seen so many people waiting 6+ months!! If you need that money for something important, you might want to make other plans NOW rather than counting on it coming through anytime soon!

Thank you for this reality check. I was starting to think I was doing something wrong or missing updates somewhere. Helps to know what others are experiencing even if it's not the news I was hoping for.

I filed my amended return exactly 137 days ago. Nothing for months, then finally got movement when I checked my transcript. I used https://taxr.ai to analyze what was happening because the transcript codes were confusing. It explained that code 971 followed by 290 meant my amendment was processed but partial adjustments were made. Saved me hours of research and helped me understand exactly what was happening with my amendment. The site translated all the IRS jargon into plain English.

Does that service actually tell you anything you couldn't find out yourself? I'm hesitant to use third-party tools when dealing with tax information. Did it actually speed up your refund or just explain what was already there?

I'm in the same boat as you. Filed an amended return in January for a missed education credit. Still nothing substantial. What's even happening at the IRS these days? Don't they realize people are counting on these refunds? And why is the Where's My Amended Return tool so useless compared to the regular WMR? It's been showing "received" for months with no additional details.

Filed amended return March 5th. Got movement last week. No notice in mail yet. Check transcript weekly. Saw 971 code appear suddenly. Called IRS three times. First two calls disconnected. Third call confirmed processing. Agent said expect check in 2-3 weeks. Not holding my breath though.

Amended returns are like watching paint dry in slow motion during a power outage. I finally got through to an actual IRS agent after using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). Like a fast pass at an amusement park, it got me past the eternal hold times. Agent confirmed my amendment was approved but stuck in the final review queue. Without that call, I'd still be in the dark wondering if my paperwork was lost in the void.

Have you tried checking your account transcript instead of just the amended return tool? My amended return status never updated online, but my account transcript showed all the changes. It's similar to how regular refunds work vs. the Where's My Refund tool - sometimes the transcript updates first. Would be worth checking if you haven't already?

I believe... most of us are experiencing similar delays with amended returns. From what I've gathered... the IRS is still working through a backlog from previous years. It might be worth checking your transcript every couple of weeks rather than daily, just to preserve your sanity. Some folks here mentioned seeing movement around the 20-week mark, so perhaps there's light at the end of the tunnel soon.
