I think I may have had a similar situation to yours. I verified my identity on April 10th, and my transcript updated exactly 6 business days later. First I saw code 971 appear (notice issued), then the next day I got code 846 with a direct deposit date. My verification was specifically for the tax advocate PIN issue though, so your timeline might be slightly different if your verification was for something else.
I had almost the exact same experience last year, but it took 8 business days instead of 6. I think they're processing a bit faster this year compared to last year's backlog.
When you say "tax advocate PIN issue" - was that related to an Identity Protection PIN or something different? I'm trying to understand if different verification reasons have different timelines.
Pro tip for anyone still waiting: Instead of calling the IRS main line and waiting forever, I used Claimyr.com last week and got through to an actual agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my return was processing normally and explained why my bars had disappeared. Saved me hours of being on hold and the stress of not knowing what was happening. Here's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c
Absolutely! I was skeptical too, but it connected me right away. The IRS agent was able to see exactly what was happening with my return and gave me peace of mind. Way better than the 3+ hour waits I was dealing with before.
The Tax Topic 152 message is actually normal - it just means your return is being processed and a refund will be issued (assuming everything checks out). The bars disappearing is also super common during busy season. The IRS systems are ancient and can't handle the volume, so the WMR tool gets weird. Glad you finally got your date!
Did you check if your account number is just being partially masked for security reasons? Sometimes they only show the last 4 digits with asterisks replacing the rest. Have you received any confirmation emails that might show the complete information?
This happens to a lot of people, and it's usually not as concerning as it first appears. If you compare this to online banking, they often mask account numbers too, showing only the last few digits. In your case, TurboTax is likely doing the same thing for security. Most people in your situation discover that the actual transmitted information is correct, even if the display looks wrong. The system is designed to protect your information while still ensuring accurate processing.
Got thru to the IRS last month for my penalty abatement! Here's what worked: - Called the # on my notice (not the main IRS #) - Used phone menu option for "payment questions" not "tax help" - Called at 8:15am ET on a Tues (mid-week is less busy) - Had my notice, SSN, filing status, and tax return ready - Agent took about 10 mins to review my history - Approved on the spot! Confirmation letter arrived 2 wks later Def worth the effort - saved almost $300 in penalties. Good luck!
Had this exact situation last semester. Here's what worked for me: โข Tried calling for 2 weeks with no success โข Used the "Contact Us" option on IRS.gov (limited but better than nothing) โข Submitted Form 843 by certified mail as backup โข Found alternate number: 800-829-0922 (sometimes less busy) โข Finally got through using Practitioner Priority Service trick The agent confirmed I qualified for First Time Abatement since: โข No penalties in prior 3 years โข Good history of filing on time before โข Current year taxes were fully paid, just filed late They removed the penalty completely during the call!

You might want to try checking your tax topic code on WMR instead. The 'as of' date seems to be somewhat relevant, but it's not necessarily definitive. I've had some success looking at the cycle code on my transcript - it's usually in format YYYYCCDD. If your cycle code ends in 01-05, you're likely on a weekly update schedule. If it ends in 05, specifically, many people report updates on Fridays with deposits the following Wednesday. This seems to be more reliable than the 'as of' date, though I can't guarantee it's foolproof.

Just wanted to share a win! I was obsessing over my 'as of' date too, watching it change from Feb 26 to Mar 12 to Mar 5 (yes, it went BACKWARDS ๐คฃ). But then I just randomly checked my bank account this morning and boom! ๐ฐ Full refund deposited! Never even saw an update on WMR or any 846 code on my transcript. Sometimes the system works in mysterious ways! Hope you all get your refunds soon too!
