Have you checked if there's been any identity theft? Sometimes scammers file false returns in your name, causing these kinds of issues.
You can request an Identity Protection PIN from the IRS website. It's a good way to protect yourself and it might reveal if there's been any suspicious activity on your account.
Thanks, I'll definitely look into that. Better safe than sorry!
PSA: Watch out for scams! There are a lot of fake 'identity verification' services out there trying to steal your info. ONLY use official .gov websites!
π This! My cousin got scammed trying to verify her identity. Lost like $500 π±
Oof, that's rough. Thanks for the warning!
lol welcome to dealing with the IRS. might as well get comfy, youre gonna be here a while π€‘
Hey OP, any updates? Did you manage to get through to anyone or figure out what's going on with your refund?
I went thru this last week. Here's what you need to know: β’ Have multiple forms of ID ready (driver's license, passport, birth certificate) β’ Recent utility bill or bank statement for proof of address β’ Social Security card or number β’ Be prepared to answer security questions about your history β’ If it's for financial stuff, have recent tax returns handy β’ Write down all info they give you, including agent names and reference numbers β’ Be patient! The process can take a while Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Yep, they did ask about previous addresses. They went back about 7 years for me. Also, they asked about any name changes, so keep that in mind if it applies to you.
This is gold π― Saving this for later!
anyone else feel like were living in a dystopia where we constantly have to prove who we are? π€
Preach! π It's getting ridiculous how many hoops we have to jump through.
Eh, I'd rather have some security than none. Identity theft is no joke.

Think of the IRS phone system like trying to get concert tickets for a popular band - everyone's calling at the same time using the same approach. Services like Claimyr are essentially like having someone wait in line for you. Is it necessary? No. Can it save hours of frustration during peak season? Absolutely. When you're dealing with military deployment and handling finances solo, the time saved might be worth the cost - it's like paying for expedited shipping when you need something quickly.

The 'taxes under review' status after identity verification is actually quite common this year. Did you know the IRS has increased verification measures by approximately 35% for the 2024 filing season? It's part of their effort to combat the rise in tax identity theft. Most returns flagged for identity verification that successfully complete the process move to approved status within 7-14 days. Military returns sometimes get additional scrutiny due to complex residence situations, but they also have dedicated processing teams.
