DEO required me to attend CareerSource WPB appointment - what to expect?
Got a letter yesterday saying I need to show up at the CareerSource office in West Palm Beach for a mandatory appointment next Tuesday. The letter says if I miss it my benefits could be suspended! Has anyone had to do this recently? What should I prepare? Do they just check your work search efforts or is this some kind of interview? Getting really anxious because the letter doesn't explain what exactly they want from me. I've been claiming for about 7 weeks now and this is the first I'm hearing about mandatory in-person appointments.

•Thanks! Do you remember how long it took? I have to arrange childcare and I'm wondering if I should plan for an hour or the whole morning.

These appointments are part of the Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program. It's completely normal and happens randomly to claimants. The appointment typically includes: 1. Verification of your identity 2. Review of your work search records (bring documentation for ALL weeks claimed) 3. Assessment of barriers to employment 4. Creation/review of your resume 5. Discussion of labor market information Make sure you arrive 15 minutes early with your ID, work search proof, and resume. These appointments typically last 1-2 hours depending on how prepared you are. Don't stress about it - it's routine and designed to help you find employment faster.

•The DEO is so FRUSTRATING with this stuff! They barely tell you anything in the letter then expect you to show up perfectly prepared. I got one of these last month and nearly had a panic attack thinking they were going to cut me off for some random reason I didn't even know about!!

•That doesn't sound too bad. Did they actually check all your work searches or just glance at them? I'm worried because a couple of mine are just online applications where I don't have much documentation.

They're doing this to everyone now. My brother had one last month and my neighbor had one two weeks ago. It's just DEO's way of making sure people are actually looking for work. Just bring proof of your 5 work searches per week and you'll be fine.

•Actually, it's not everyone - RESEA appointments are randomly assigned to a percentage of claimants. Usually they target those who might need additional reemployment assistance based on their work history or claim duration. It is important to bring organized work search records though - they'll carefully review them, and if you're missing documentation, they may refer you for a fact-finding interview which could impact your benefits.

For anyone struggling to get through to DEO with questions about these appointments or any other claim issues, I started using Claimyr a few weeks ago and it saved me hours of frustration. Instead of getting disconnected repeatedly, I got connected to a live agent in about 25 minutes. They have a good demo video at https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj if you want to see how it works. It's definitely worth it if you need to talk to someone about specific concerns before your CareerSource appointment.

•Does this actually work? I've been trying to call DEO for weeks about my adjudication issue and keep getting disconnected!

•Yes, it does work. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call for days. Their system keeps your place in line so you don't have to stay on hold forever. The claimyr.com site explains how it works - basically they navigate the phone tree for you and call you back when they reach an agent.

•@Ethan Wilson did she receieve her benefits after 3wks & did she reschedule her appointment before she received benefits? Asking because I missed mine and rescheduled appointment which I went to but mine is still on hold & has been for 4wks

Just FYI the West Palm office parking is TERRIBLE!!! I had to park like 3 blocks away for my appointment and almost was late. Give yourself extra time to find parking or you might end up missing your appointment and then they'll cut your benefits!!

•Thanks for the heads up about parking! I'll definitely plan to arrive extra early.

I had my meeting in January and I was really nervous but the career counselor I met with was actually super helpful! She found a few job openings that matched my skills and even helped me apply right there. I actually got an interview from one of them! So it's not just about checking up on you - they might actually help you find work.

I just wanted to follow up and say THANK YOU to everyone who responded! I had my appointment yesterday and it went really well. The counselor was friendly and professional, took about 90 minutes total. She reviewed my work search logs (which I had organized by week like suggested), helped polish my resume, and showed me some job search resources I didn't know about. She even helped me set up a profile on EmployFlorida.com. The parking situation was exactly as bad as warned - had to circle the block twice! But overall it was actually a helpful experience, not the scary interrogation I was imagining. For anyone else getting these letters, don't stress too much about it.

•Thanks for the update! As someone who's been worrying about potentially getting one of these appointments, it's really reassuring to hear it went well. The 90 minutes sounds about right based on what others have shared. Did they end up finding any issues with your work search documentation, or were they pretty understanding about the format? I'm trying to get mine better organized just in case.

•So glad to hear it went smoothly! I'm actually the original poster (had to create a new account because of login issues) and your follow-up gives me even more confidence. My appointment is this Tuesday and I've been organizing my work search logs all weekend. Did they want to see the actual screenshots of online applications or was just writing down the company names and dates sufficient? Also really appreciate the parking warning - I'll definitely plan to arrive 30 minutes early!

I went to a RESEA appointment at CareerSource Broward a few months ago and it was actually pretty straightforward. The counselor was nice and mainly focused on making sure I understood the work search requirements and helped me improve my resume. They did ask to see my work search log but weren't super strict about the format - I had a mix of online applications, phone calls, and in-person visits documented and they were fine with that. The whole thing took about an hour and 15 minutes. One tip: bring a pen because they might have you fill out some forms while you're there. Don't overthink it - they really are there to help you find work, not to trip you up!

•Thanks for sharing your experience @Liam McGuire! It's really helpful to hear from someone who went through this at a different CareerSource location. The tip about bringing a pen is great - I wouldn't have thought of that. It sounds like as long as you're making genuine efforts to find work and can show documentation, they're pretty reasonable about it. I'm feeling much more confident about my upcoming appointment now after reading all these positive experiences!

I had my RESEA appointment at the West Palm Beach office about 6 weeks ago and wanted to share my experience to help ease your anxiety! The staff there was really professional and understanding. They walked me through the entire process step by step. I brought my ID, resume, and work search documentation organized by week (which I highly recommend). The counselor reviewed everything, helped me improve my resume format, and even showed me some local job resources I hadn't heard of before. The whole appointment took about 75 minutes. One thing that really helped was that I printed out screenshots of my online job applications - they appreciated having that visual proof. Don't worry too much about it being perfect, they understand that job searching can be challenging and they're genuinely there to support you in finding employment. Just make sure you don't miss the appointment because that can definitely cause issues with your benefits!

•Thank you so much for sharing your detailed experience @Emily Nguyen-Smith! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm scheduled for my appointment next week and have been really nervous about it. Your tip about printing screenshots of online applications is super helpful - I've been doing mostly online applications and wasn't sure how to document those properly. It's reassuring to know the staff is understanding and actually wants to help. I'm going to organize my work search records by week like you suggested and make sure I have everything printed out. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all these details!

I just had my RESEA appointment at CareerSource Palm Beach County last week and wanted to add my experience to help others! The appointment was actually quite helpful - my counselor spent time reviewing my resume and suggested some formatting improvements that made it look much more professional. They also showed me how to use the EmployFlorida.com job search tools more effectively. One thing I wasn't prepared for was that they asked about my career goals and what types of positions I was targeting. It wasn't a test or anything, but having a clear answer helped them provide more relevant job search advice. The whole process took about an hour and a half. Make sure to bring a folder with all your work search documentation organized chronologically - it makes everything go much smoother. And definitely don't stress about it! They're genuinely there to help you succeed in your job search, not to catch you doing something wrong.

•This is such great advice @Harper Thompson! I'm really glad you mentioned the career goals question - I wouldn't have thought to prepare for that. It makes sense that they'd want to know what direction you're heading so they can give better guidance. I have my appointment coming up in a couple weeks and I'm going to spend some time thinking about how to articulate my career objectives clearly. The tip about bringing a folder with chronological documentation is really practical too. It's so reassuring to keep hearing positive experiences from people who've actually been through this process. Thanks for taking the time to share these helpful details!

I just wanted to add that I had my RESEA appointment at the WPB office about 2 months ago and it was honestly much less stressful than I expected! The counselor was really patient and walked me through everything step by step. A few tips that helped me: 1) I organized all my work search records in a simple spreadsheet by week with columns for company, position, date applied, and method (online, phone, etc.) - they loved this format! 2) I brought copies of job postings I had applied to, which really showed I was serious about my search. 3) The counselor actually helped me identify some skills I hadn't put on my resume and suggested local training programs I could take advantage of. The whole thing took about 90 minutes and I left feeling like I had better tools for my job search. Don't let the official-sounding letter scare you - they really do want to help you succeed!
