Need urgent help with EDD claim - where to find Congressperson assistance link?
I'm at my wit's end with this EDD mess! Been stuck in pending for over 8 weeks with zero income. Keep calling 300+ times a day and can't get through. Someone at the food bank told me our local Congressperson's office can help push EDD claims through, but I can't find the right website or contact form. Does anyone have the direct link for requesting congressional help with CA unemployment claims? My landlord is threatening eviction and I'm desperate. TIA!

Here's the link to find your rep: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative Just enter your zip code and it'll show your congressperson. Each office has their own process for constituent services, but most have a form on their website specifically for EDD assistance. When filling it out, be super specific about your claim number, when you filed, and exactly what issues you're having (pending payments, disqualification, etc). Include your EDD Customer Account Number if you have it. They usually respond within 3-5 business days with next steps.

•THANK YOU!!! I was looking everywhere. Do I need to include anything special in the request? Like certain documents or something? Never done this before.

•Ugh seriously? I don't even own a fax machine. Who does anymore? Did they eventually help you?

I tried the congressional route after waiting 12 WEEKS for my claim to move from pending to paid. Complete waste of time! Filled out all their forms and provided everything they asked for. A month later got a generic email saying they'd "looked into it" but couldn't do anything because "EDD has their own processes." If you want REAL help getting through to EDD, try Claimyr.com - it's the only thing that worked for me. You pay a small fee and they connect you directly to an EDD agent, bypassing the endless busy signals. Took me 3 mins to get through after weeks of failed calls. They have a video demo here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The congressional office is free but took forever and did nothing. Claimyr costs money but actually got me to a real person who fixed my claim that same day.

Just to give some accurate information here: 1. Congressional assistance can be very effective but depends on your specific issue and the office you're working with. Some representatives have dedicated EDD specialists who handle dozens of cases daily. 2. For best results with congressional help: - Be extremely detailed about your claim history - Provide documentation of all your attempts to contact EDD - Include your Customer Account Number AND claim ID - Specify exactly what's wrong (pending payments, ID verification issues, etc.) - Sign their privacy release form (required by law) 3. Expect 7-14 business days for initial action - they need time to submit an inquiry to their EDD liaison, who then researches your claim. This isn't a magic bullet, but I've seen many claims resolved through congressional intervention when the claimant provided complete information and had a legitimate issue.

•Thanks for the detailed info. Do you work for a congressional office or something? You seem to know a lot about this process. I'll definitely include all those details when I submit my request.

Dont waist ur time with congress ppl.. they just send u back 2 the same edd number that never answers.. my sister in law works for assemblyman and says they just forward the info. I finally got my money after using an auto-dialer app and calling at exactly 8:01am on tuesday (they reboot system monday night).

•This isn't accurate. State Assembly and Congressional offices use different channels to reach EDD. They don't just "forward info" - they submit formal inquiries through dedicated liaison pathways that bypass the general contact system. While results vary by office, legislative case workers absolutely have specialized access. The auto-dialer at 8:01am Tuesday tip is good advice though - that can work well too.

I got help from my assembly member NOT congress person. Much better results with state-level reps for state EDD issues. Google "California find my assembly member" - they have EDD specialists on staff.

•Oh that's interesting! I didn't realize there was a difference. I'll try both and see who responds first. Thanks for the tip!

If you're facing eviction, please also reach out to legal aid in your county immediately. They can help with both the eviction and potentially your EDD issues. Most have free services for people with housing insecurity. Just Google "[your county] legal aid housing" to find them.

•That's a good idea. Hopefully the congressperson will help get my EDD fixed before it gets to that point, but I'll look into legal aid too just in case. Thank you!
