Need help reapplying for EDD benefits - where to start?
Hey everyone, I need to reapply for unemployment benefits but I'm not sure where to start. Does anyone know if there's a specific number I should call or if I can do it online? It's been a while since I last filed and I'm feeling a bit lost. Any advice would be really appreciated!

I just went through this process last month. You can actually do most of it online now! Just go to the EDD website and look for the 'File a New Claim' button. It's pretty straightforward, but make sure you have all your employment info handy before you start.

Thanks for the tip! Do you know if I need to provide any additional documentation since I'm reapplying?

You might need to provide proof of income from your most recent job, but the online system will tell you exactly what you need. Just follow the prompts and you should be good!

Online is def the way to go. Saves so much time compared to calling and waiting on hold forever 👍

Ugh, good luck dealing with EDD. Their system is a total nightmare rn. I've been trying to get through for weeks and keep getting ghosted 👻

Same here! It's like they don't even want us to get our benefits. So frustrating 😤

Have you guys tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

Tried that, still no luck. It's like playing the lottery at this point lol

Hey, I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/0UZGuPWGErg

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

Idk man, paying to get through seems kinda sketchy. Shouldn't this be a free service?

I get the skepticism, but after weeks of trying to get through, it was worth it for me. Saved me hours of frustration and got my issue resolved.

Can you give more details about how it works? Do they guarantee you'll get through?

Sure! You basically schedule a callback time, and they do all the waiting for you. They don't guarantee it 100%, but if they don't get through, you don't pay. Worked for me on the first try tho.

Just a heads up, make sure you check if you're eligible to reapply. There are some new rules about how long you need to wait between claims. Don't want you to waste your time if you're not eligible yet!

Pro tip: Keep a detailed log of all your attempts to contact EDD. Note down dates, times, and any reference numbers they give you. It might come in handy if there are any disputes later on.

That's a great idea, thanks! I'll definitely start doing that.

Has anyone had luck with the EDD's virtual assistant on their website? I've been trying to use it but it seems pretty limited in what it can actually help with.

Lol that thing is useless. It's like talking to a brick wall but less productive 🧱🤖

I actually found it helpful for basic questions, but yeah, for anything complex you're better off talking to a real person.

Just wanted to share some hope - I finally got my claim sorted after 3 months of back and forth. Stay persistent, document everything, and don't be afraid to reach out to your local representatives if you're really stuck. They can sometimes help expedite things.

Contacting your rep is solid advice. They helped me break through the bureaucracy when I was getting nowhere.

Anyone else feel like they need a law degree to understand all these unemployment rules and regulations? 🤯 I swear they make it complicated on purpose.

For real! I spend more time trying to figure out the system than I do looking for a new job 😅

Hey OP, when you do get through, make sure to ask about any job training programs or resources they might have. I found out they offer some free courses that can help boost your resume while you're job hunting. Might as well take advantage of everything available, right?
