Need direct EDD phone number that actually connects to a real agent - desperate

I've been trying to reach EDD for over a week about my disqualification notice. I've called the 800-300-5616 number like 30 times a day but it just says "we're experiencing high call volume" and hangs up on me! I'm at my wit's end. Does anyone have a direct number that actually works? Or maybe an extension that bypasses the automated system? My rent is due next week and I NEED to get this resolved. I've already tried calling right when they open at 8am and no luck. Please help!!

try calling at 8:01 exactly. not 8 sharp but 8:01. worked for me twice. also the 833-978-2511 number sometimes connects better but they cant help with all issues

Thanks, I'll try the 8:01 trick tomorrow morning. Have you tried the 833 number recently? Someone told me they changed what that line can handle.

Unfortunately, there's no "secret" direct number to EDD that bypasses their queue system. The main lines (800-300-5616 and 833-978-2511) are your best options. What's helped me is calling mid-week (Tuesday-Thursday) around 10:30am or 2:30pm when call volume sometimes dips. Also, make sure you're ready with your claim details when you call - have your claim number, last employer info, and exact dates of employment handy. This makes the call more efficient once you get through. Regarding your disqualification notice - what was the reason given? Sometimes there are other ways to address the issue depending on the specific disqualification reason.

They said I "failed to provide sufficient employment verification" which makes NO sense because I uploaded everything they asked for! I have screenshots proving I submitted all documents before the deadline. That's why I need to talk to someone directly.

I understand your frustration, but the system isn't designed to make you give up. It's just severely understaffed for the volume of claims they handle. Keep trying the calling strategies mentioned above, and consider filing an appeal for your case if you haven't already - this creates a paper trail and can sometimes trigger contact from EDD.

I was in the exact same situation last month with the disqualification notice. After wasting hours trying to get through, I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. They have this service that basically does the calling and waiting for you, then calls you when they have an agent on the line. Saved me days of frustration. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD rep was able to see that my employment verification documents were in the system but hadn't been reviewed yet. She cleared the disqualification on the spot and my payment went from pending to paid within 48 hours.

That sounds exactly like my situation! Did you have to explain a lot to the rep or were they able to easily see what the problem was? I'm going to check out that service right now.

The rep could see all my uploaded documents in their system. I just had to explain which notification I received and when I uploaded the documents. Have the dates ready when you call. The rep told me this happens frequently when they have document processing backlogs - the system automatically sends disqualification notices even though you've done everything right.

I had luck with calling exactly at 1:30pm becuz thats when they come back from lunch I think. The trick is to NEVER select the option that says "file a new claim" even if thats what u need. Always pick the option for "existing claim questions" cuz those reps can help with everything anyway lol

ya this is good advice, the menu options are misleading. also try pushing 0 repeatedly during the recording sometimes that works 2

While trying different calling strategies, I'd highly recommend also filing an appeal for your disqualification. You have 30 days from the notice date to appeal, and it's important to protect your rights even while trying to resolve this by phone. The DE 1000M appeal form is available online. Submit it with copies of the employment verification documents you previously uploaded. In the explanation section, clearly state that you submitted all required documentation before the deadline and include the dates of submission. Mail it certified with return receipt so you have proof it was received. This two-pronged approach (calling + formal appeal) gives you the best chance of resolving your issue quickly. The appeal creates an official record of your dispute that can help even if you do reach someone by phone.

Thank you! I didn't realize I could appeal while still trying to reach them by phone. I'll download the form today. How long does the appeal process usually take? I'm worried about my bills in the meantime.

Appeals typically take 30-45 days to be scheduled for a hearing, but many documentation-related issues get resolved before reaching the hearing stage. Once EDD reviews your appeal documentation, they often fix the issue if it was clearly their error. If you do get a hearing date, you'll receive instructions about 10 days before. For immediate financial concerns, consider requesting a hardship advance from your landlord or utility companies - many have programs for people waiting on unemployment benefits. Local assistance programs through 211 can also help with emergency rent and bill payments.

Has anyone tried the UI Online message center instead of calling? My brother-in-law couldn't get through on the phone either but he sent a detailed message through his UI Online account (under Contact EDD) about his disqualification issue. He included his phone number and asked for a callback. An EDD rep called him back 3 days later and fixed his issue. Might be worth trying along with the phone strategies!

I sent a message through the portal about 5 days ago and haven't heard anything back yet. I'll try sending another one with more details though. Maybe I wasn't specific enough.

Make sure you select "Disqualification" as the subject and include specific dates in your message. My brother-in-law said he put "URGENT" in the subject line too, which might have helped. Hope you get it resolved soon!
