Can't reach an EDD representative - tried calling 100+ times with no luck!

I've been trying to contact EDD for THREE WEEKS now about my disqualification notice. I've called the 833 number literally over 100 times, at different hours (early morning, afternoon, right before closing). Every single time I get 'we are currently experiencing high call volume' and then it hangs up! Not even an option to wait on hold! I tried the 800 number too but that just leads to automated info that doesn't help my specific situation. My rent is due next week and I NEED to speak with someone about why I was disqualified after my eligibility interview. Has anyone actually managed to get through to a real person? What's the secret?

call at EXACTLY 8:01 am. not 8, not 8:05. right when they open. that worked for me but only after like 20 tries

Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow morning. Did you call the 833 number or a different one? I'm desperate at this point.

I was in the same situation last month and discovered there's a systematic approach that works better than random calling. Here's what helped me: 1. Call the 1-833-978-2511 number at 8:01am, 10:30am, or 2:45pm (they typically reset their queue system at these times) 2. When the automated system answers, press 1, then wait for the next prompt and press 2, then 4 3. If you get the "too many callers" message, hang up and immediately redial 4. Keep detailed notes of your disqualification reason so you can clearly explain your situation when you get through The eligibility disqualification usually requires speaking with a Tier 2 specialist, so make sure to request that when you finally connect with someone. The first rep may only be able to see basic account info.

Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! I'll definitely try these specific times tomorrow. My disqualification letter just says I 'provided conflicting information during eligibility interview' but doesn't specify what was conflicting. It's so frustrating!

EDD's phone system is DESIGNED to keep people from getting through!!! They don't want to help us! I spent 2 months trying every day and only got through ONCE and then they transferred me and I got hung up on. The whole system is broken on purpose!!!

I don't think it's intentional... they're just understaffed. My cousin works there and says they get thousands of calls every hour with not enough people to answer them all. Frustrating but not malicious.

After wasting weeks trying to get through the regular way, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it actually worked! They have this system that holds your place in line and calls you back when they've got an EDD agent on the line. Saved me hours of redial hell. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km I was skeptical but I got connected to an EDD rep within 2 hours after trying for weeks on my own. The agent was able to explain my disqualification (in my case I had reported wages incorrectly) and helped me file an appeal.

This sounds promising! Did they explain your disqualification reason clearly? That's mainly what I need - just someone to tell me what information was supposedly 'conflicting' so I can fix it or appeal properly.

Yes, the EDD rep I spoke to pulled up my file and explained exactly which weeks had the issue and what the discrepancy was. Turned out my employer reported different hours than I did for one pay period, which triggered the disqualification. Once I understood the specific problem, I was able to gather the right documentation for my appeal.

have u tried emailing them? sometimes that works better then calling

Email responses from EDD can take 10-15 business days, and for disqualification issues, they typically require speaking with a claims specialist who can access your full file. Email is better for general questions or simple issues, not for resolving disqualifications that require immediate action.

I'm new to all this EDD stuff and got confused about something - when you get disqualified after an eligibility interview, is that different from getting denied from the beginning? I applied last week and my claim status just says 'pending' - should I be worried about getting disqualified too? Sorry for the dumb question but this is all so complicated!

0 coins

Not a dumb question at all! 'Pending' just means your claim is still being processed. 'Disqualification' happens after initial approval when something in your certifications or interview raises a flag. They're different situations. For a new pending claim, you might need to wait 2-3 weeks for processing unless there's an issue requiring an eligibility interview.

Thank you! That makes more sense. I was getting worried after reading this thread thinking my pending status would automatically lead to problems!

When I had my disqualification issue last year, I contacted my state assembly member's office. They have dedicated staff who can submit inquiry tickets directly to EDD's legislative department. I got a call back within 48 hours. Each assembly member has their own form on their website for EDD assistance. Might be worth trying while you're also attempting to call.

That's a really good idea I hadn't thought of! I'll look up my assembly member right now. Did you have to provide a lot of documentation when you contacted them?

Just basic info - your EDD Customer Account Number, last 4 of SSN, and a brief explanation of your issue. They have a release form you'll need to sign that gives them permission to inquire about your case. Super straightforward.

i tried that claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier today and it actually worked! got thru to edd in like 45 min when i had been trying for days. just letting u know

That's great to hear! I think I'm going to try that tomorrow if my early morning calls don't work out. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get this resolved before my rent is due.

UPDATE: Just a quick note for anyone following this thread - EDD recently updated their call center hours. They now operate Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (not 8am-8pm like before). They also added more staff to handle disqualification issues specifically, so requesting a 'claims specialist' or 'determination interviewer' when you get through can help get to the right department faster.

Thanks for the updated info! I'll make sure to ask for a claims specialist when I get through. Going to try again first thing tomorrow morning.

I just went through this exact same situation a couple months ago! The disqualification notice saying "conflicting information" is super vague and frustrating. Here's what worked for me after weeks of failed attempts: Try calling right at 8:01 AM sharp like others mentioned, but also have a backup plan. I used a combination of the Claimyr service (which actually got me through) and contacting my assembly member's office at the same time. The key thing is when you DO get through, ask specifically to speak with a "determination interviewer" - they're the ones who can actually look at your eligibility interview notes and tell you EXACTLY what information was flagged as conflicting. In my case, it was something as simple as reporting my last day of work differently than what my employer submitted. Also, make sure you have your EDD Customer Account Number ready and ask for the specific section/question from your interview that caused the issue. They can usually resolve it on the spot if it's just a miscommunication. Don't give up - you WILL get through eventually!

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I've been feeling so lost with that vague "conflicting information" notice. I'm definitely going to ask for a "determination interviewer" specifically - I didn't know that was a thing. It's reassuring to hear that yours was resolved once you got to the right person who could actually see the details. I'll try the early morning calling strategy tomorrow and if that doesn't work, I'll use Claimyr as a backup. Really appreciate you sharing your experience!

I'm dealing with something similar right now - got a disqualification notice three days ago and have been calling nonstop with no luck. Reading through all these responses is giving me hope though! I'm going to try the 8:01 AM calling strategy tomorrow and also look into Claimyr as a backup. The assembly member contact idea is brilliant too - I never would have thought of that. Quick question for those who got through - when they review your case, are they able to fix simple errors on the spot or do you usually have to file a formal appeal? My notice also says "conflicting information" but doesn't specify what, so I'm hoping it's just a miscommunication that can be cleared up quickly. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it's really helpful to know I'm not alone in this!

From what I've seen in similar cases, they can often fix simple errors right on the call without needing a formal appeal - especially if it's just a miscommunication or data entry issue. The determination interviewer can update your record immediately if they see the problem is something straightforward like conflicting dates or wage amounts that don't match up between what you reported and what your employer submitted. However, if it's a more complex eligibility issue, they might need to schedule a new interview or have you submit additional documentation. The key is getting to that determination interviewer who can actually access your full file and interview notes - regular reps can only see basic account info. Good luck with your 8:01 AM call tomorrow!

I'm in the exact same boat right now - got my disqualification notice last Friday and have been calling every day since with zero luck getting through. It's so frustrating when you just need someone to explain what went wrong! I'm going to try all the strategies mentioned here - the 8:01 AM calling, Claimyr as backup, and definitely contacting my assembly member's office. One thing I'm curious about - has anyone had success getting their disqualification reversed once they finally spoke to someone? I'm worried that even if I get through and understand what the "conflicting information" was, I might still be stuck with the disqualification. The stress of not knowing what I did wrong or if it can even be fixed is honestly worse than the endless busy signals. Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences and tips - this thread is giving me hope that there's actually a path forward!
