Anyone know secret EDD phone tricks? Been calling 67 times daily with no luck
I'm seriously about to lose my mind. I've been trying to reach a REAL HUMAN at EDD for 2 weeks straight about my disqualification notice. Every single time I call that stupid 800 number, I get the 'we're experiencing high call volume' message and then it HANGS UP ON ME!!! I've tried calling at 8:01am, 10:30am, 3:45pm - literally every possible time. The most calls I've made in one day is 67 (yes I counted) and still NOTHING. My rent is due next week and I need this sorted ASAP. How is anyone supposed to fix issues when you can't talk to anyone?? Does anyone know any tricks to actually get through? Different numbers? Special options to press? Secret handshakes? ANYTHING??

I finally got through last week after nearly a month of trying. What worked for me was calling the technical support number (1-855-327-7057) instead of the main number, then when you get a tech person, politely explain your situation and ask to be transferred to a claims specialist. Some techs will transfer you, some won't - but it's worth trying. Also, Tuesdays and Wednesdays seemed to have slightly better luck in my experience.

•THANK YOU! I'll try the tech support number tomorrow morning. Did you have to wait long once they transferred you? And did the claims specialist actually help with your disqualification issue?

I had the same issue last month with my pending payments after an eligibility interview. I tried for weeks using the regular methods until I discovered Claimyr. It's a service that basically calls EDD for you and connects you when they get through. I was super skeptical but desperate enough to try it, and it actually worked - got me through to a rep in about 25 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. It was honestly the only thing that worked after weeks of frustration.

•I've never heard of this - do they really get you through? Did they actually solve your eligibility interview issue when you finally got connected? I'm willing to try anything at this point!

•sounds like a scam to me... why would u need to pay someone to call EDD?? there are free ways to get through if ur patient enough

•@OP - Yes, they did get me through, and the EDD rep was able to push my pending payments through once I explained my situation. The whole thing took maybe an hour total vs the weeks I spent trying on my own. @skeptical_user - I thought the same thing at first, but after 3 weeks of calling 20+ times a day and getting nowhere, I was desperate. For me it was worth it to solve my payment issue and stop stressing about it. But yeah, if you have the time to keep trying the regular way, go for it.

The current EDD phone system is completely overwhelmed and has been since 2025 started. I spent 17 years working with various state agencies (not EDD specifically), and here's what I recommend: 1. Call the main number (1-800-300-5616) exactly at 8:00am, not 8:01 2. If that doesn't work, try calling after 1:30pm when lunch rush is over 3. Press 1-2-4 in the menu options to avoid the general queue 4. If all else fails, contact your state assembly member's office - they have dedicated EDD liaisons Also, for your disqualification issue, make sure you're prepared with: - Your exact claim dates - Any specific disqualification code on your notice - Your complete work history for the base period - Any medical documentation if it's health-related Good luck!

•Thank you so much for this detailed info! I never thought of contacting my assembly member - how do I find out who that is? And my disqualification code is something like DQ 1256 I think? Something about "voluntary quit without good cause" even though I was clearly laid off.

•You can find your assembly member by going to findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov and entering your address. DQ 1256 is specifically about voluntary quit. You'll need documentation from your former employer showing you were laid off - termination letter, layoff notice, etc. If you don't have that, get something in writing from your former supervisor or HR. This is absolutely something you can appeal if you were truly laid off.

I HATE HATE HATE the EDD phone system!!! Been there done that got the freaking t-shirt. I got thru last month but only because I called the Spanish line (I dont speak spanish) and then just asked to be transfered to an english speaking person when someone answered. Sneaky but it WORKED. My issue now is that I got thru, fixed the problem supposedly, and now im dealing with ANOTHER issue. Its like EDD whac-a-mole. Fix one thing and another pops up!!!

•The Spanish line trick doesn't work anymore. they caught on and now they just transfer you to the same english queue that's always full.

•Nooooo are you serious? That was my secret weapon! Ugh, of course they fixed the ONE loophole that actually helped people instead of fixing their actual broken system. 🤬

have you tried the ask edd feature on the website? i had a similar issue last year and submitted a question through there. took about 10 days but they actually emailed me back and helped resolve my disqualification. not as fast as calling but might be worth a shot if you keep hitting dead ends with the phone

•I submitted through Ask EDD twice already but haven't heard anything back. It's been 8 days since my first message. Did they actually help resolve your disqualification through email? I didn't think that was possible!

•they didnt fix it through email exactly... they emailed me to schedule a callback time. then an actual person called me at the scheduled time and fixed my issue. not perfect but at least i didnt have to keep calling.

Update to my earlier comment - forgot to mention that when you DO finally get through to someone, make sure you get their ID number or at least their first name. I've had calls where I finally reached someone, they said they fixed my issue, but then nothing actually changed in the system. Having their info makes it easier to follow up if needed.

•That's a great tip. I never would have thought of that. I'll definitely ask for their ID number if I get through.

Quick update - I tried calling this morning using a combination of the tips people shared here. Called the tech support number at exactly 8:00am, got through after only a 15 minute wait, explained my situation, and they transferred me to claims. Had to wait another 30 minutes but FINALLY spoke to someone who could help! They're reviewing my disqualification now. THANK YOU all for the suggestions!
