Money Network Card mailing address and new app requirements for 2025 EDD benefits

I just got approved for unemployment benefits (finally!) and EDD says they're sending me a Money Network debit card. Two questions that the website doesn't clearly answer: 1. Where does the card actually ship from? I want to know which state to look for on incoming mail since I'm getting tons of junk mail lately and don't want to accidentally throw it away. 2. Do I need to download a special app to access my funds? I had unemployment back in 2021 and remember using BofA's app, but heard everything changed. Is there a new Money Network app I need? Thanks for any help! Getting nervous since rent is due in 2 weeks and I need that money to come through.

The Money Network Card comes from Tennessee - it'll be in a plain white envelope from "Money Network Cardholder Services" with a Tennessee return address. Super easy to miss if you're not looking for it! And yes, you absolutely need their new app. The old BofA system is completely gone. Download the "Money Network Mobile App" from your app store. You'll need to create a new account once you get your card. The app lets you check your balance, transfer funds, find ATMs, etc. Much better than the old BofA system honestly.

Thank you! I'll keep an eye out for mail from Tennessee then. Any idea how long it typically takes to arrive after approval? The EDD website just says "7-10 business days" but I'm wondering if that's accurate in 2025.

Same here. White envelope that looks like junk mail. Almost threw mine away! Be careful!

To add to what others have said: 1. The Money Network Card ships from their processing center in Tennessee. The envelope is plain white with a small logo and the return address shows "Money Network Cardholder Services" - not EDD or California. Many people miss it because it looks like junk mail. 2. Yes, you must download the Money Network Mobile App to manage your funds. The Bank of America partnership ended in 2023 and Money Network took over. Their app allows you to: - Check your balance - Set up direct deposit transfers to your bank account - Find fee-free ATMs (MoneyPass network) - Get transaction alerts - Freeze your card if lost Important: You can't activate the card or set up your account until you physically have the card in hand. The card should arrive 7-10 business days after your first payment is approved. If it's been more than 14 days, call Money Network customer service at 1-888-412-2222. Also, make sure to set up direct deposit to your regular bank account through the app to avoid ATM fees!

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll be sure to watch for mail from Tennessee. Does the Money Network app offer the option to set up automatic transfers to my regular bank? That would be ideal so I don't have to remember to move the money each time.

The whole Money Network system is TERRIBLE compared to the old BoA cards!!! I've had nothing but problems since they switched. The app crashes constantly, transfers take DAYS longer, and good luck getting any customer service. They also have fewer free ATMs than BoA did. To answer your question - yes it comes from Tennessee in a plain envelope that looks exactly like credit card spam, and yes you need their glitchy app. But prepare yourself for frustration. My last payment took 3 extra days to appear on the card compared to when EDD said it was paid.

Pro tip for anyone dealing with EDD payment issues: I spent WEEKS trying to call EDD about a problem with my Money Network card that wasn't working right after I got it. Could never get through. I finally used a service called Claimyr that got me connected to an EDD rep in under 20 minutes. They have a system that navigates all the phone trees and holds your place in line. Saved me literally days of redial frustration. Their video shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Check out claimyr.com if you need to actually talk to someone at EDD. Best money I've spent during this whole unemployment nightmare.

Thanks for the tip! I might need this if I have any issues with the card when it arrives. Did they help you resolve your card problem directly or did they just connect you to EDD?

They just connect you to an actual EDD rep. The EDD agent I spoke with was able to verify my payments and help me troubleshoot why my card wasn't working (turned out it needed to be reactivated after a security flag).

I got my Money Network Card last month and the whole process was confusing. It comes in a very plain white envelope from Tennessee that seriously looks like junk mail. I think mine took about 9 days after my first payment was approved. The app is actually decent, but make sure you set up the direct deposit feature to your regular bank right away! They charge fees for some ATMs unless you use certain networks. One weird thing - my cousin and I both got unemployment at the same time. Her card came from Tennessee but showed up in 5 days. Mine took over 2 weeks! The EDD person I finally reached said delivery times can vary based on local mail service and processing backlog. Just FYI in case yours takes longer.

This is so helpful, thank you!! I've been waiting 12 days for mine and was getting worried.

Just to clarify about the Money Network app - there are two apps in the app stores that sound similar: 1. "Money Network Mobile App" - THIS is the correct one for your EDD debit card 2. "Money Network" (no "Mobile" in the name) - This is their older app and won't work right Make sure you download the one with "Mobile" in the title. The icon has a blue and green design. Also, once you get your card, you'll need to create your account with: - The full card number - The card expiration date - The CVV code - Your date of birth - The last 4 digits of your SSN Keep your certification going while waiting for the card to arrive!

Perfect, this explains why I was seeing two different apps in the store! I'll make sure to get the Mobile version. And thanks for the reminder about certification - I've got my next one due in 3 days.

The virtual card feature is only available AFTER you've received and activated your physical card. Unfortunately, you can't access funds earlier this way. This is for security reasons to prevent fraud.

Update: My card arrived today! It took exactly 8 business days from when my claim was approved. The envelope was exactly as described - plain white from Tennessee with "Money Network Cardholder Services" as the return address. It definitely could pass for junk mail. I've downloaded the app (the Mobile version) and set everything up. So far it seems to work well. I've already set up automatic transfers to my regular bank account so I don't have to worry about fees. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! Glad everything worked out. Those automatic transfers are definitely the way to go. Just remember that they typically take 1-2 business days to complete, so plan accordingly for bills and expenses.

Just wanted to add my experience for anyone else waiting - I received my Money Network card about 10 days after approval. The envelope really does look like junk mail! I almost threw it away too. One thing I wish someone had mentioned earlier: when you set up the app, make sure to enable push notifications for transactions. It's really helpful to get alerts when your weekly payment hits the card. Also, the MoneyPass ATM locator in the app is super useful - way more fee-free locations than I expected. Good luck to everyone still waiting for their cards! The system definitely isn't perfect but it gets the job done.

Thanks for sharing your experience! The push notifications tip is really helpful - I wouldn't have thought to enable those but it makes total sense to get alerts when payments come in. And good to know there are more fee-free ATMs than expected through MoneyPass. I'm still waiting for my card (day 6 now) but feeling more confident it'll show up soon based on everyone's timelines here.

I'm also waiting for my card and this thread has been incredibly helpful! One question - does anyone know if the Money Network app allows you to see pending deposits before they actually hit the card? With the old BofA system I could sometimes see payments a day early in "pending" status, which helped with planning. Also wondering if anyone has experience with their customer service if issues come up. The 1-888-412-2222 number mentioned earlier - are they actually helpful or is it another phone tree nightmare like EDD?

I can answer the customer service question! I had to call Money Network support last month when my card got temporarily frozen. The 1-888-412-2222 number is actually pretty decent - much better than trying to reach EDD directly. I waited about 15 minutes on hold, but the rep was knowledgeable and resolved my issue quickly. Way less frustrating than the EDD phone maze! As for pending deposits, I don't think the Money Network app shows them ahead of time like the old BofA system did. From what I've seen, payments just appear once they're fully processed. But the push notifications @Rajan Walker mentioned do come through pretty quickly when the money hits.

For anyone still waiting for their card, I wanted to share a few additional tips that helped me: 1. Check your EDD account online to make sure your mailing address is 100% correct - even small errors can delay delivery. I had to update mine because my apartment number was missing. 2. If you live in an apartment or have issues with mail delivery, consider having it sent to a trusted friend or family member's house with more reliable mail service. You can update your address in your EDD account. 3. The Money Network website (separate from the app) also has useful features like ATM locators and account management if you prefer using a computer. One more thing - I noticed some people mentioning delays with transfers. In my experience, transfers initiated before 5 PM PT on business days typically complete the next business day, but weekend transfers don't start processing until Monday. Hope this helps anyone still navigating the process!

This is all really great advice! The tip about double-checking your mailing address is so important - I actually had a similar issue where my apartment number was formatted wrong and it caused a delay. Also really good point about the timing of transfers. I've been wondering about that since I usually do my banking stuff on weekends. Thanks for sharing your experience!
