How long for EDD money to hit after certifying? Direct deposit vs. Money Network timeframes

Just submitted my first certification online yesterday (it was actually a lot easier than I expected). Anyone know how long it typically takes for the money to actually hit my account? I chose direct deposit when I applied about 2 weeks ago. My claim status shows as 'paid' now but nothing in my bank account yet. Is this normal? Do weekends slow things down? I've got rent due Friday and cutting it close this month...

For direct deposit, you'll usually see the money hit your account within 24-48 hours after your UI Online status changes to 'paid'. The first payment might take a bit longer though. If you certified on Sunday, expect it by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. Weekends don't typically slow down the EDD payment system since it's automated, but bank processing times vary. \n\nIf you don't see anything by Wednesday morning, check that your bank account info was entered correctly in UI Online. You can verify this under 'Payment Preferences.

Thanks! Thats a relief. I certified sunday night so hopefully it comes tomorrow. Is there any way to check if my bank info was entered right? I dont see anything about payment preferences when I log in, just the claim summary page.

Your first payment typically takes a little longer than subsequent ones. Direct deposit usually takes 1-2 business days after status changes to 'paid', but the first one can take up to 3-4 business days. For Money Network cards (for people who didn't choose direct deposit), funds are usually available the same day the status changes to 'paid'.\n\nTo check your payment method: Log into UI Online → Click on 'Contact Information' in the menu → Select 'Payment Method' tab → Verify your account details.\n\nIf nothing shows by Thursday, call EDD to make sure there aren't any hold-ups with your payment. Just be prepared for long wait times.

Thanks for the detailed response! I'll check that payment method page right now.

WAIT is it supposed to be that fast?!?! I've been waiting over a WEEK since my status changed to paid and still NOTHING in my account!!! Did i do something wrong??? Now i'm panicking!!

If it's been a week since your status changed to 'paid' but you haven't received your money, there's definitely something wrong. Double-check your payment method and bank details in UI Online immediately. If those look correct, you need to contact EDD right away as there may be an issue with your payment.

When I first started getting unemployment last year, I waited almost two weeks for my first payment even though it said

OMG going to check my account # right now!! Thanks for this!!!

just an fyi ur first payment will only be for one week not two cuz they dont pay for the waiting week so dont panic when u see less $ than u expected

Oh! I didn't know about the waiting week thing. That's good to know - would have totally panicked seeing a smaller amount otherwise.

I had such a nightmare with the direct deposit last year! After waiting forever I switched to the Money Network card and now I get paid SO much faster. The card arrives in about 7-10 days, and after that all payments hit the card THE SAME DAY my claim shows paid. No more waiting for bank processing! You can also transfer funds from the card to your bank account but it takes 1-2 days for that.

That's interesting - I might consider switching if direct deposit ends up being slow. Does the card work everywhere like a normal debit card?

Yep works everywhere visa is accepted! You can also withdraw cash at ATMs (free at certain ones). The only annoying thing is you have to set up the online account to check your balance, but it's been way more reliable than waiting for direct deposit in my experience.

has anyone used Claimyr to reach EDD??? im at my wits end trying to figure out my payment issue and CANT get through on the phone!!!

I actually used Claimyr last month when I had that payment issue and it worked really well. They got me connected to an EDD agent in like 20 minutes when I'd been trying for DAYS. The website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km\n\nDefinitely worth it if you're stuck with a payment problem that needs immediate attention. The agent was able to fix my issue on the spot once I got through.

THANK YOU!!!! going to try this right now, i'm desperate!!

pro tip: certify at midnight on sunday when the system opens up instead of waiting till later in the day, payments seem to process faster when u do it right when certification opens up

0 coins

This is actually accurate! The EDD payment processing system works in batches, and certifications submitted in the first batch (right after midnight) typically get processed faster than those submitted later in the day. It won't make a huge difference, but it might get your payment processed a few hours earlier.

UPDATE: Money hit my account this morning (Tuesday) around 3am! So for anyone finding this thread later - it took about 36 hours from certification to direct deposit for my first payment. Thanks everyone for the help!

Great to hear! Yes, that's pretty standard timing. Future certifications will likely follow the same pattern. Be sure to certify on time every two weeks to keep payments coming smoothly.

told ya! tuesday morning like clockwork! glad u got paid

Congrats on getting your first payment! Just wanted to add for anyone else reading - if you're ever in a situation where your direct deposit seems delayed, you can also check if there are any holds on your claim by looking at the "Claim Summary" page in UI Online. Sometimes there are eligibility reviews or other issues that can delay payments even after certification is submitted. The system will usually show a message if there's a hold, but it's not always super obvious. Also, some banks (especially smaller credit unions) can take an extra day to process EDD deposits compared to major banks, so factor that in too!

This is super helpful info! I'm new to unemployment and still figuring everything out. Quick question - where exactly do you see if there's a hold on your claim? I'm looking at my Claim Summary page but I'm not sure what to look for. Also, does anyone know if Chase Bank typically processes EDD payments quickly or if they're one of the slower ones?
