EDD appeal hearing decision timeline - normal to wait 3 weeks?
I just had my phone appeal hearing with an administrative law judge 3 weeks ago for my disqualification, and I'm still waiting for a decision. The judge said it could take 'a few weeks' but didn't specify exactly how long. This waiting is making me so anxious because I have bills piling up and I've already gone 2 months without benefits. My appeal was about being fired for allegedly violating company policy (which I totally didn't - my manager had it out for me). Has anyone gone through an appeal recently? How long did it take to get your decision letter after the hearing? And if the decision is in my favor, how quickly will I start getting paid? The stress is killing me!

I had my appeal hearing in February 2025 and got my decision exactly 10 days later. The letter came in the mail, but the decision was also posted in my UI Online account under 'Appeals' a day before I got the physical letter. If you win, they usually release all your back payments within 7-10 days. You can check your UI Online account daily - that's how I knew I won before the letter arrived because suddenly all my pending weeks switched to 'paid' status! Hope you get good news soon!

•Thanks for sharing your timeline! I've been checking my UI Online account obsessively but nothing's changed yet. Did the judge give you any indication during your hearing about which way they were leaning? Mine asked a LOT of questions but I couldn't tell what she was thinking.

The standard processing time for appeal decisions is typically 7-14 days after the hearing, but right now EDD is experiencing backlogs so it's taking 3-4 weeks for many people. I'd recommend waiting until the 4-week mark before taking additional action. When you do receive the decision, if it's favorable, payment processing usually begins within 48-72 hours and the funds should be available on your Money Network card within 2-4 business days after that, assuming there are no other issues with your claim.

•this is BS i had my hearing in jan & waited SIX WEEKS!!!!! nobody tells u anything & u cant get ahold of anybody to ask. the whole system is designed to make people give up. and even when i won my appeal, it took another 2 weeks for the money to hit my account. EDD is literally the WORST

Are you checking your mail every day? Sometimes they send the decision but it gets lost or delivered to the wrong address. My neighbor accidentally got mine lol. They don't always update the online system right away either.

•Yes, I'm checking my mail religiously! I've been home every day so there's no chance I missed it. Good point about the online system though - maybe they've made a decision but haven't updated it yet.

I've been through the appeals process twice (once in 2023 and again in early 2025). My first decision took about 2 weeks, but my most recent one took almost 5 weeks. The difference-maker for me was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual EDD representative who could check on the status of my appeal decision. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep I spoke with explained that sometimes decisions get "stuck" in the system and need to be manually pushed through to the payment phase. After that call, my decision suddenly appeared in my UI Online account the next day (in my favor!) and payments started processing right after. Might be worth a try if you hit the 4-week mark with no update.

•I hadn't heard of Claimyr before. It's frustrating that we need to use third-party services just to get basic information from EDD, but at this point I'd try anything. I'll check out that link, thanks!

my appeal was for misconduct too but mine was like way different because i actually did break a policy but it wasnt on purpose lol. anyway i got my decision in like 3 weeks i think? but then there was another holdup because they had to remove the penalty weeks before i could get paid. do you have penalty weeks on your claim? that could cause extra delays even if you win

•I'm not sure about penalty weeks - how do I check that? My disqualification notice just said I was ineligible due to misconduct, but didn't mention penalties. Is that something different?

•Penalty weeks are only applied in cases of willful misrepresentation or fraud. They wouldn't apply in a standard misconduct disqualification case. If you win your appeal based on the finding that no misconduct occurred, you should receive all benefits without penalty weeks, assuming this is your only issue.

I waited almost 4 weeks for my decision after my hearing and was about to lose my mind. Try calling the Appeals Board directly instead of regular EDD. Their number is different and sometimes they can tell you if a decision has been made but just hasn't been mailed yet. Got through much faster than the regular EDD line.

•That's a great tip, thank you! Do you happen to remember the Appeals Board phone number? I'll try calling them tomorrow.

•I *think* it's 1-800-300-5616 but double-check on the EDD website. Ask for the appeals department specifically when you get through. Fingers crossed for you!

•That's actually just the regular EDD number. The Appeals Board is 916-263-8787, but they're usually just as hard to reach as the main EDD line in my experience.

DONT WAIT!!! call them NOW!! i waited 4 weeks and found out they "lost" my appeal file and had to reschedule my hearing, wasting ANOTHER month! the system is designed to wear u down so u give up. KEEP CALLING EVERY DAY until they give u an answer!!!

•Omg that's terrifying! I'd lose my mind if they lost my appeal and I had to start over. I've been trying to call but keep getting the "we're experiencing higher than normal call volume" message and then it hangs up.

Just wanted to follow up - did you ever receive your decision? If you're still waiting and having trouble getting through to EDD, seriously consider the Claimyr option I mentioned. While there is a service fee, it saved me weeks of stress and uncertainty. Having an actual EDD rep look up your case can make all the difference in moving things along.

•Still waiting, unfortunately. I'm going to hit the 4-week mark tomorrow, so if I don't hear anything by then, I'll probably try the Claimyr service. At this point, I just need answers one way or another so I can figure out what to do next.

Quick update question - have you checked your UI Online account under the "History" tab as well as the "Appeals" section? Sometimes decisions don't show up in Appeals but your payment status will change under History if the decision was favorable. Also, make sure you're still certifying for benefits every two weeks even while waiting for the appeal decision!

•Yes, I've been checking both sections and still certifying every two weeks as required. Everything is still showing as "disqualified" status. I really appreciate everyone's help and suggestions. This community has been more informative than any official EDD communication I've received!
