What docs does EDD require for PFL application? Need help ASAP!

Hey everyone, I need to file for Paid Family Leave (PFL) with EDD and I'm not sure what documents I need. Can anyone help me out? What did you have to submit when you applied?

I just went through this process! Here's what you'll need: • PFL claim form (obviously lol) • Something to prove your relationship to the person you're caring for (like a birth certificate or marriage license) • Medical certification from a doctor Make sure you have all of these ready before you start the application. It'll make things go way smoother!

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. Do you know if I need the original documents or if copies are okay?

Copies should be fine for most things, but double check on the EDD website to be sure. Better safe than sorry!

Just a heads up, sometimes they ask for originals later if they need to verify something. Happened to my cousin last year.

For real tho. I've been waiting on my claim for months. It's like they're living in the stone age or smthn

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes that can speed things up.

Quick tip: fill out everything SUPER carefully. One tiny mistake and they'll send it all back. Ask me how I know 😭

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Are you sure it's legit?

100% legit. I was skeptical too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

How long did you have to wait after using the service?

Only about 30 minutes! Way better than the 3+ hours I spent trying to call on my own.

Don't forget to keep copies of EVERYTHING you submit. EDD has a talent for losing paperwork 🙄

Has anyone had luck submitting stuff online? Is it faster than mailing?

Online is def faster. Just make sure your docs are clear and easy to read when you upload them.

Online worked great for me. Just remember to save the confirmation page!

Pro tip: if you're caring for a family member, get the medical certification filled out ASAP. Doctors can take forever and it'll hold up your whole application.
