Missing disability payments after PFL rep said I'm owed money - can't reach anyone!

So frustrated right now! I was on disability before transitioning to PFL, and when I spoke with a PFL representative last week, she told me I'm actually owed disability payments from March 1-13, 2025 that were never processed! She said I needed to call the disability department directly to get this resolved, but I've been calling literally EVERY DAY this week and can't get through to anyone. Just endless hold times until I eventually get disconnected. Has anyone had a similar issue with missing disability payments? Is visiting a local EDD office actually helpful for this kind of problem? I'm owed almost $890 and really need that money for baby expenses. Any advice on how to actually reach a human being at the disability office?

Same thing happened to me with unpaid disability from february!! Called 37 times over 2 weeks and never got past the hold music. Going to the local office was useless, they just told me to keep calling or use the online message center. Good luck!!

Ugh this is so discouraging. Did you ever get your money? I tried the online message center already but it's been 5 days with no response. The whole system is broken!

The gaps between disability and PFL are super common problems. You have a few options: 1. Keep calling the main SDI line at 8am exactly when they open 2. Use the online portal to submit a formal request for recalculation (go to Contact EDD > Payment Question > Missing Payment) 3. If you have your original DE2501 disability form, send a copy with a letter explaining the date gap Visiting an office in person usually doesn't help with payment issues since the physical offices don't process claims. The SDI and PFL departments are separate systems even though they're both under EDD, which causes these gaps sometimes.

this is soooo confusing, I thought disability and PFL were the same thing??? I'm pregnant now and planning to apply in a few months. Do I need to file separate applications or what? sorry to hijack the thread but now im worried

This happens ALL THE TIME with EDD transitions! I work in HR and see this constantly with our employees. The system is completely broken and they expect new parents to waste hours on the phone fixing THEIR mistakes. It's ridiculous that in 2025 we still have separate systems for disability and PFL when they're administered by the same department!! The whole thing needs to be overhauled.

I had the same issue last month and what worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to an EDD agent. I was skeptical at first but after trying to call for days with no luck, I gave it a shot. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 - basically they wait on hold for you and call you back when they have an agent on the line. I got through in about 45 minutes instead of trying to call all day myself. The agent I reached was able to process my missing disability payment on the spot. Website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out.

Thank you! I've never heard of this service before. Did you have to explain the whole situation to the agent or did they already have access to your claim info? I'm worried about getting connected and then having to start from square one explaining everything.

To answer your question - they had all my info in the system. I just had to verify my identity and then explain the specific date gap issue. The agent actually saw the notes from the PFL rep who told me about the missing payment. Took about 10 minutes to resolve once I was connected.

Your not gonna get anywhere at the local office unfortunately... I tried that route when my pregnanct disability claim was stuck pending. I waited 2 hrs only to be told they couldnt help with SDI or PFL claims in person!! Such a waste of time. Theres a special fax number you can try too, I think its on the back of your disability paperwork. Sometimes sending a written request works better than calling.

The fax number hasn't worked for me in the past. I sent THREE faxes about my maternity disability claim last year and never heard anything back. EDD is seriously the worst government agency to deal with when you're already stressed with a new baby!

One important thing to know: the SDI and PFL systems have different claim examiners, even though they're both under EDD. So when the PFL rep sees you're owed disability money, they literally can't fix it themselves - they can only tell you to contact the other department. Your best bet is to call RIGHT when they open at 8:00am. Not 8:01 or 8:05 - exactly at 8:00. That's when you have the best chance of getting through. Have all your information ready: - Claim ID number - Exact dates in question (March 1-13, 2025) - Whether you've received ANY partial payment for those dates - Your EDD Customer Account Number (from any correspondence) - The name of the PFL rep who told you about the missing payment Be persistent and don't give up!

Thank you so much for the detailed advice! I'm going to try calling right at 8:00am tomorrow. I've been trying around 9-10am so maybe that's part of my problem. I'll have all this information ready to go!

I tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned above when I had an issue with my PFL baby bonding claim last month. It actually worked - got me through to an agent in about an hour when I'd been trying for days on my own with no luck. The agent fixed my issue right away once I got through. Definitely worth trying if you're desperate!

UPDATE: I finally got through!! Used that Claimyr service someone recommended above and had an agent on the phone within 40 minutes. The rep confirmed I was missing payments for those dates and processed a supplemental payment that should arrive in 7-10 days. She also said this happens A LOT with transitions from disability to PFL because they're treated as separate claims even though they're related. Thanks everyone for your advice!

Great news! Glad you got it resolved. Make sure you check your account in about a week to confirm the payment was actually processed. Sometimes they say they'll fix it but you need to follow up. If it doesn't show up in 10 days, call again!
