How to get baby bonding time paid? Need help understanding EDD eligibility!
Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out how to get baby bonding time paid. Does anyone have experience with this? I'm not sure where to start or what the eligibility requirements are. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Congrats on the new addition to your family! š I went through this process last year, so I can share some info. Generally, you need to have worked for your employer for at least 12 months and have worked a certain number of hours. The exact requirements can vary by state and employer, though. Have you checked with your HR department yet?

Thanks for the congrats and info! I haven't talked to HR yet, I wasn't sure if I should go through them or directly through the state. I'll def reach out to them first thing Monday morning.

Good call! HR should be able to guide you through the process and let you know if you need to apply through the state or if it's handled internally. Good luck!

Just a heads up, some companies have their own parental leave policies that might be more generous than state requirements. Definately worth asking HR about that too!

I found a method to get someone on the phone about this. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds kinda sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate after being on hold for hours and it actually worked. Saved me so much time and frustration.

Here's a comprehensive guide on baby bonding time and paid family leave: ā¢ Eligibility: Usually need to have worked for your employer for at least 12 months ā¢ Duration: Typically up to 12 weeks, but can vary by state and employer ā¢ Pay: Often a percentage of your regular salary, again varies by state/employer ā¢ Application: Start with your HR department, they'll guide you on whether to apply through work or the state ā¢ Documentation: You'll likely need proof of birth or adoption ā¢ Timing: Can usually be taken anytime within the first year after birth/adoption Remember, laws vary by state, so check your specific state's regulations. Also, some employers offer more generous policies than the legal minimum. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

This is great info! Quick question - do you know if the 12 weeks have to be taken all at once, or can they be split up?

Good question! In many cases, you can split up the time, but it depends on your state and employer. Some allow you to take it in chunks, others require it to be continuous. Definitely something to clarify with HR or your state's labor department.

Has anyone here actually gotten through to a real person at the EDD? I've been trying for weeks and keep getting stuck in their automated system. It's driving me crazy! š¤Æ

I feel your pain! That's why I ended up using that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier. It was the only way I could actually talk to a human.

Pro tip: try calling right when they open. I got through after only a 20 minute wait last week!

Anyone know if this applies for adoptive parents too? Or is it just for birth parents?

Adoptive parents are usually eligible too! The rules are generally the same as for birth parents. Just make sure you have your adoption documentation ready when you apply.
