Need advice on EDD appeal process - what to double-check before submitting?
Hey everyone, I'm in the process of appealing my unemployment claim and I'm feeling a bit lost. I want to make sure I've done everything correctly before I submit. Has anyone gone through this process recently? What should I be double-checking to make sure my appeal is solid? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

I went through this last year. Make sure you have all your dates correct and that you've included any supporting documents. Double check that you've signed everything - I almost forgot that part! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely double-check all the signatures. Did you have to provide any additional info during your appeal process?

Yeah, actually. They asked for some additional pay stubs that I didn't include initially. So maybe gather more documentation than you think you need, just in case.

That's really helpful, thank you! I'll dig up some extra docs to have on hand.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone about this! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of being on hold. Worth every penny imo.

I've used it too. It's legit. Beats sitting on hold all day!

Make sure you clearly state the reason for your appeal and provide any new information that wasn't in your original claim. Be concise but thorough. And don't forget to meet the deadline for filing the appeal!

Thanks for the tips! Do you know if there's a specific format they prefer for the appeal letter?

There's no strict format, but keep it professional. Start with your claim number, state the reason for appeal, then provide your evidence. End with a clear request for reconsideration.

Protip: If you can, get a letter from your former employer supporting your case. It can make a huge difference. I did this and my appeal was approved in like 2 weeks!

This!!! š Employer support is key. If you left on good terms, definitely reach out to them.

I've been through the appeals process twice now (don't ask š ). Here's what I've learned: ā¢ Be extremely detailed in your explanation. Leave no stone unturned. ā¢ Provide as much documentation as possible. Pay stubs, emails, anything relevant. ā¢ If you had a specific person handling your case before, mention them by name. ā¢ Be polite but firm in your writing. ā¢ Follow up regularly. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. ā¢ If possible, get legal advice. Many places offer free consultations. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Great advice! I'd add: keep a log of all your communications with the unemployment office. Dates, times, who you spoke to. It can come in handy.

Has anyone had success with hiring an attorney for their appeal? I'm considering it but not sure if it's worth the cost.

I did, and it was worth every penny. My attorney caught details I would've missed and knew exactly how to present my case.

It depends on how much you're owed and how complex your case is. For me, it wasn't necessary, but YMMV.

Quick question for the group: How long did your appeals typically take to get resolved? I'm trying to gauge what to expect.
