EDD Return to Work Process - What steps do I need to take?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to return to work after being on unemployment. Has anyone gone through this process recently? I'm not sure what steps I need to take or if there's anything specific I should be aware of. Any advice would be really appreciated!

I just went through this last month! Here's what you need to do: • First, make sure you report your return to work date on your next certification • Stop claiming benefits as soon as you start working full-time • If you're working part-time, you may still be eligible for partial benefits - report all earnings • Update your contact info with EDD if it's changed • Keep your account active for a few months in case you need to reopen your claim Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

This is super helpful, thanks for sharing! Do you know if theres a specific form we need to fill out to notify EDD about returning to work?

Glad it helped! There's no separate form - just report it on your regular certification. They'll ask if you returned to work and the date. Easy peasy! 👍

Quick question - what if you start working but then get laid off again shortly after? Do you have to file a whole new claim?

If it's within the same benefit year, you can usually just reopen your existing claim. But if it's been more than a year, you'd need to file a new one. Always worth calling to check tho!

Congrats on getting back to work! 🎉 Just remember to certify for your last week of unemployment before you start your new job. And don't forget to report any severance pay if you got any - that can affect your benefits.

Hey, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds sketchy af. Why would you pay to call EDD? 🤔

I get the skepticism, but after spending weeks trying to get through, $20 was worth it to me. Saved me hours of frustration.

How long did you have to wait once they started calling?

It took about 45 minutes, but I just went about my day until they called me back. Way better than being stuck on hold myself.

Make sure you keep good records of everything! When you started work, your last day of unemployment, any communications with EDD. You never know when you might need that info later.

Preach! 🙌 It's like they want us to mess up so they can deny benefits

C'mon guys, it's not a conspiracy. It's just a big, slow bureaucracy. Frustrating, yeah, but not malicious.

Pro tip: set up direct deposit if you haven't already. Makes things way smoother when you're transitioning off benefits.

Dont forget to factor in taxes! EDD doesn't always withhold enough and you don't want a nasty surprise come tax season 😱

You can adjust your withholding on the EDD website. I always set mine to the max just to be safe.
