EDD Overpayment Notice DE 2517-22: Wrong dates, missing February notice, and appeal process questions
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with EDD. I got this overpayment notice (DE 2517-22) and the time period they listed is wrong. I messed up and put the paid period instead of the pay period for each check. The kicker is, I never even got the February notice they're talking about! I only found out when I got the payment notice. I've already sent in the DE 1000A appeal explaining all this, but I'm kinda freaking out. Anyone know what the appeals process is like? Will they slap me with fines while I'm waiting for them to make a decision? Oh, and to make matters worse, my partner just lost their job. Talk about bad timing! Any advice on how to handle this mess would be super appreciated.

Ugh, EDD and their notices š I swear they make it confusing on purpose! Here's what I know about the appeals process: ⢠First, they'll review your DE 1000A form. This can take a few weeks. ⢠If they need more info, they'll send you a letter or call you. ⢠You might get a hearing date where you can explain your case to a judge. ⢠While waiting, you don't have to pay anything, but interest might accrue. ⢠If you win the appeal, they'll cancel the overpayment. ⢠If you lose, you can request a waiver if repayment would cause financial hardship. Hope this helps! Hang in there, OP!

ā¢Thank you so much for breaking it down! That really helps ease my mind a bit. Do you know how long the whole process usually takes?

ā¢It can vary a lot, tbh. I've heard anywhere from 2-6 months. The backlog is real š© But don't let that stress you out! Just keep all your docs organized and you'll be fine.

ā¢This is great info! Quick question - do you know if they consider current financial situation during the appeal process? OPs partner losing their job seems relevant.

ā¢Good point! Yes, they do consider current financial hardship. OP, make sure to mention your partner's job loss in any communications with EDD. It could help your case!

ā¢8 months?! š± That's insane! Did you have to keep calling them for updates or did they keep you in the loop?

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials through the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

ā¢Totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

ā¢$20 to skip the hold time? š¤ Idk, feels like we shouldn't have to pay to talk to EDD...

ā¢I get that, but think about how much your time is worth. For me, not spending hours on hold was worth the cost. But to each their own!

Have you considered reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with EDD issues. Might be worth a shot!

ā¢I hadn't even thought of that! Do you know how I would go about contacting them?

ā¢Just google '[your city] assembly member' and you should find their office contact info. Give em a call and explain your situation. They can sometimes work miracles!

Okay, hear me out. What if you made a TikTok about your EDD struggles? I've seen people get traction and even responses from companies that way. Could be worth a shot! š¤·āāļø

OP, I feel for you! EDD errors are so frustrating. One thing that helped me was calling their dedicated appeals line (1-800-300-5616) rather than the regular customer service number. They usually have shorter wait times and the staff is specifically trained on appeal issues. Also, make sure you keep copies of EVERYTHING - your original claim forms, the incorrect notice, your appeal, etc. If your partner's job loss is recent, definitely mention that in any follow-up communications as it strengthens your hardship case. The good news is that most appeals with documentation errors like yours do get resolved in your favor, it just takes patience. Hang in there! šŖ
