EDD Nightmare: SDI Payments Stopped After Mistakenly Applying for Unemployment - How to Restart Disability Benefits?
So I messed up and applied for unemployment when my job ended, even though I'm on disability. Now my disability payments have stopped and I'm freaking out. EDD told me I'm not eligible for unemployment cuz I have a return-to-work date next year. They said they contacted disability to let them know it's cool to keep paying me, but I haven't seen a dime since mid-May. Anyone else deal with this nightmare? How do I get my disability payments flowing again?

Here's what you need to do, step by step: 1. Document everything. Write down dates, names of people you talked to, and what was said. 2. Contact EDD again and ask for a written confirmation that they notified disability about your situation. 3. Reach out to your state representative or senator. They often have staff dedicated to helping with EDD issues. 4. File a formal appeal with the disability office. This creates a paper trail and forces them to review your case. 5. If all else fails, consider contacting a lawyer who specializes in disability claims. Remember, you have rights. Don't let the bureaucracy wear you down. Keep pushing until you get what you're entitled to!

Don't forget to check if your county has a legal aid society. They sometimes offer free help with this stuff.

Have you tried faxing your documents? I know it sounds like we're back in 1995, but sometimes that works better than their online portal.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been trying to call but it's impossible to get through. It's like they have one person answering phones for the whole state 🙄

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

Navigating the bureaucratic maze of unemployment and disability benefits can be overwhelming. First, remain persistent in trying to contact both EDD and the disability office, as they are the key players in resolving this issue. Tools like Claimyr can be beneficial in cutting down the wait times for phone calls, but they do come with a cost. Weighing the frustration against the fee is a personal decision. It's also crucial to document every interaction with these offices and keep them organized, as this information might be needed if further dispute arises. Furthermore, having a state representative or local legislator might add pressure for a quicker resolution. Lastly, if the situation doesn't improve, contacting a legal professional who specializes in disability claims could prove invaluable. This way, you have a structured approach to resolving the matter. Although the system is flawed, persistence and strategy can help you reclaim your rightful benefits.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The government should fix their broken system instead.

It's by design. They make it hard on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits. Stay strong and don't let them win!

Have you considered reaching out to local news stations? Sometimes a little media attention can light a fire under their butts.

Ugh, classic EDD mess. I swear they make everything 10x more complicated than it needs to be. Have you tried calling the disability office directly? Sometimes you gotta be the squeaky wheel to get the grease.

It's unfortunate that so many people are going through this. Have you reached out to your local representatives? They might be able to escalate the issue.

Pro tip: keep a detailed log of every interaction. Times, dates, names, what was said. It'll help if you need to escalate your case later.
