Will I get another CalFresh deposit in August after July 27 approval?

Hi everyone, I just got approved for CalFresh on July 27, 2025 and received $459 deposited onto my EBT card that same day. I'm a bit confused about whether this amount is meant to cover July or August benefits. Will I be getting another deposit this month (August), or do I need to wait until September for my next benefits? This is my first time on CalFresh and I'm trying to budget correctly. The approval letter wasn't clear about the payment schedule going forward.

That amount was prorated for july. You'll get your august benefits on your regular issuance date which depends on the last digit of your case number. Should be between the 1st and 10th of august. You can check the exact day on the benefitscal website or app. congrats on getting approved!

Thank you! Didn't realize the issuance date depends on my case number. I'll check the app. Really appreciate the quick response because I need to plan my grocery shopping.

The $459 you received on July 27th was indeed your July benefit amount. For CalFresh, you receive benefits on a monthly basis according to a schedule based on the last digit of your case number (as mentioned above). Your August benefits should be issued between August 1-10, and then you'll receive benefits on that same date each month going forward. The exact date is fixed based on your case number, so once you receive your August benefits, you'll know your permanent monthly issuance date. If you have any questions about your specific issuance date, you can also call the number on the back of your EBT card.

This is really helpful, thank you! I found my case number on my approval letter - it ends in 4. Does that mean I'll get benefits on the 4th of each month?

Yep! If your case number ends in 4, your benefits will be available on the 4th of each month. The benefits are usually loaded early in the morning, so you'd have access to them first thing on the 4th. Mark your calendar!

when i first got approved back in january they gave me benefits like the next day but it was just for that month. then i got my regular benefits like 5 days later for february. i was so confused lol. i thought i wasn't getting anything else for a whole month! but it turns out they just give you the first month's benefits right away and then start the normal schedule. i get mine on the 6th every month now

This is exactly right. The initial benefit is often confusing for new recipients. CalFresh provides benefits for the month in which you applied (prorated from your application date if necessary), and then you transition to the regular issuance schedule based on the last digit of your case number. For ongoing months, benefits are available between the 1st and 10th of each month.

I had SO MUCH TROUBLE with this exact same issue last year! Nobody explained how the schedule works when I got approved. I waited almost 3 weeks thinking I wouldn't get more benefits until the following month and was stretching my food so thin. Then suddenly more money appeared on my card! The system should REALLY explain this better to new people. Did your approval letter mention anything about your regular issuance date? Mine didn't and it was so frustrating!!

No, my letter just said I was approved for $459 monthly but didn't explain when I'd get the next payment. Definitely could be clearer for new people!

If you need to contact your county worker to ask about this, you might want to try Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was stuck in the same situation and spent days trying to get through the phone system. Claimyr helped me skip the phone queue and get connected to a real person who explained my benefit schedule. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Made a huge difference when I needed to sort out my payment confusion.

congrats on getting approved! just to clear things up a bit, that $459 was for July (prorated if you applied partway through the month). Your regular august payment will hit your EBT card based on the last number of your case #. So if your case # ends in 3, you'll get paid on the 3rd of each month. if it ends in 9, you'll get paid on the 9th, etc. thats how it works going forward

Thank you! My case number ends in 4, so I'm expecting my next deposit on August 4th then. Such a relief to understand how this works.

To clarify how CalFresh benefits work for new recipients: 1. Initial benefits: When you're approved, you receive benefits for the month you applied (prorated from your application date if you applied mid-month). 2. Ongoing benefits: After the initial payment, you'll receive your monthly benefits on a fixed day determined by the last digit of your case number: - Last digit 1: Benefits available on the 1st of each month - Last digit 2: Benefits on the 2nd - And so on through the 10th 3. For planning purposes: Your August benefits will be the full $459 (assuming no changes in your situation) and will be available on your regular issuance date in August. You can also check your EBT balance and transaction history by calling the number on the back of your card or using the BenefitsCal mobile app.

wait so if my case # ends in 0, do i get benefits on the 10th or the 1st?? ive been on calfresh for 6 months and still get confused lol

If your case number ends in 0, your benefits would be available on the 10th of each month. The schedule runs from 1-10 corresponding to the last digit (0-9) of your case number.

Welcome to CalFresh! Just want to add that you can also set up account alerts through the EBT Connect app to get notifications when your benefits are deposited each month. This way you'll know exactly when your August benefits hit your card without having to check manually. Also, if you're ever unsure about your benefit amount or have questions about your case, you can log into your BenefitsCal account online - it shows your current benefit amount, case status, and any upcoming changes. The transition from that first approval payment to the regular monthly schedule can definitely be confusing, but once you get into the rhythm it becomes much more predictable!

This is super helpful advice! I just downloaded the EBT Connect app and set up the notifications. I had no idea you could get alerts when benefits are deposited - that's going to make budgeting so much easier. Thanks for mentioning the BenefitsCal account too, I should probably familiarize myself with all these resources since I'm new to the program.

Just wanted to share my experience as someone who went through this same confusion! When I first got approved, I was so worried about running out of food before the next payment. What helped me was calling the EBT customer service number (it's on the back of your card) - they were actually really helpful in explaining the payment schedule and confirming my issuance date. Also, pro tip: once you know your regular date (sounds like it'll be the 4th for you), benefits usually load around midnight to 6am that morning, so you don't have to wait all day. The learning curve is real with CalFresh but you'll get the hang of it!
