Still waiting for P-EBT card for child with name starting with 'N' - anybody else delayed?

Has anyone else been waiting forever for their kid's P-EBT card? My daughter's name starts with 'N' (Natalie) and according to the distribution schedule from last month, we should have gotten it by now. All the other parents at her school seem to have received theirs! Even my neighbor whose son's name starts with 'W' got his last week. The CalFresh office keeps telling me different things - first they said it's coming in alphabetical order, then they said there's a delay for certain schools. I'm getting worried since we were really counting on this extra food assistance. Should I keep waiting or is something wrong with our application? I've tried calling the P-EBT hotline but it's always busy or I get disconnected after waiting forever.

My son's name starts with O and we JUST got our P-EBT card yesterday, so they're definitely still sending them out! Don't panic yet. The distribution is taking way longer than they announced. The schedule on the website is completely wrong btw. When I finally got through to someone last week, they told me they're behind by about 3-4 weeks on the N-R names because of some system issue. Keep checking your mail!

Omg thank you for letting me know!! This is so stressful. Did they mention anything about having to reapply or verify anything? I'm worried we missed some notice.

I work with the school nutrition program, and I can confirm they're still issuing cards for the current phase. The P-EBT cards are not handled by the regular CalFresh offices, which is why you might be getting conflicting information. The current distribution for surnames N-R was delayed due to a processing issue with the state vendor. Here's what you should know: 1. You do NOT need to reapply 2. Cards are being mailed through June 2025 for eligible students 3. The P-EBT hotline (877-328-9677) is overwhelmed right now 4. Your child's eligibility is based on school records, not your CalFresh status The best way to check status is through the P-EBT Portal at ca.p-ebt.org where you can verify if your child is in the system and see if a card has been issued.

THANK YOU for this detailed info! I didn't even know about the P-EBT Portal. Going to check it right now. Really appreciate you explaining the difference between P-EBT and regular CalFresh offices - that explains the confusion.

I HAD THE SAME ISSUE!!!! My twins both have names starting with N and we waited FOREVER!! Called like 50 times and nobody could tell me anything. So frustrating! Finally got cards last week. Hang in there!

So glad you finally got yours! Did you have to do anything special or they just showed up randomly?

If you're still having issues with the P-EBT cards, you might want to try Claimyr. I was in the same boat with my son's card (he's a P name), and after weeks of trying, I couldn't get through on the regular hotline. Claimyr got me connected to an actual human at the P-EBT office in about 15 minutes - worth every penny not to spend hours on hold just to get disconnected. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 and their website is claimyr.com. The rep was able to confirm our card was in the system and gave me an actual timeframe!

Does that actually work? I thought those services were scams. Did they ask for any personal info before connecting you?

this isnt even a calfresh issue, P-EBT is completely separate program run by CDE not CDSS, u need to contact school or P-EBT directly, calling calfresh wont help u at all

You're absolutely right that P-EBT is administered primarily by CDE (California Department of Education) in partnership with CDSS, not through the regular CalFresh program. However, many families don't understand this distinction, which leads to confusion when contacting their county offices.

We had a similar issue with my nephew's P-EBT card (his name starts with M). The distribution schedule is just an estimate, and they've been consistently behind those timelines. One thing I'd recommend is checking your mailing address on file with the school - we discovered our card was sent to an old address, which caused delays. If you've verified your address is correct and still haven't received anything by next week, you might need to request a replacement card. But be aware that requesting a replacement too early can cause more delays if your original card is already in processing.

Oh that's a good point about the address! We did move last year but I'm pretty sure I updated it with the school. I'll double check with the school office tomorrow just to be safe.

I understand your concern about the P-EBT card for your daughter. Here's the current status: 1. The P-EBT distribution for N-R surnames is officially delayed until June 2025 according to the latest update from CDSS and CDE 2. This delay is affecting ALL eligible children with surnames in this range, regardless of school district 3. The delay was caused by a data verification issue between school districts and state databases 4. You do NOT need to reapply or take any action unless your address has changed since the school year began 5. When cards are issued, you'll receive a notice approximately 5-7 days before the card arrives The P-EBT program is separate from CalFresh, which explains the conflicting information. If you need immediate food assistance, I recommend applying for regular CalFresh benefits if you haven't already, as P-EBT is supplemental and not meant to replace regular food benefits.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! We do have regular CalFresh already, but the extra P-EBT would really help since grocery prices are so high these days. Good to know about the official delay - at least now I can stop checking the mail every day expecting it!

Just want to add that you should also check if the card was sent but not activated. Sometimes the P-EBT cards come in very plain envelopes that look like junk mail. My friend almost threw hers away! The envelope just says "Official Business" and doesn't clearly identify as P-EBT.

That's so helpful to know! I'll be more careful checking the mail. Do you know if there's a way to check if a card was already sent to us? Like a tracking system or something?

Yes, you can check if a card has been issued on the P-EBT Portal (ca.p-ebt.org). You'll need your child's information including student ID number. If you don't have that, some parents have reported success calling the P-EBT hotline first thing in the morning (right when they open at 8:00 AM) to avoid the high call volume.
