Is $88 the full P-EBT amount for August 2025 with an 8-month-old or more coming?
Just checked my P-EBT card and saw they loaded $88 for my 8-month-old for August 2025. This is my first time getting these benefits and I'm really confused about the amount. Is this all I'm supposed to get for the whole month? I thought benefits for infants would be higher. Are they going to deposit more later in the month or is $88 the standard amount for babies? I have WIC too but formula is so expensive these days - was hoping P-EBT would help more with food costs. Anyone know what's going on with the payment schedule or amounts?

The $88 is likely your standard monthly amount for P-EBT with an infant. P-EBT is different from regular CalFresh - it was originally designed for school-aged children during COVID but has been extended for eligible families with young children. For infants, the benefit amounts are typically lower than for older kids because they're primarily formula/breastmilk fed. The August payment is usually deposited in full, not in parts, so that $88 is probably your complete benefit for the month. Have you checked your eligibility for regular CalFresh? That could provide additional food assistance beyond P-EBT and WIC.

•Thank you for explaining! I didn't realize P-EBT was different from regular CalFresh. We applied for CalFresh last month but haven't heard back yet. Do you know how much CalFresh we might get for a family of 3 (me, husband, baby) if we qualify? Our household income is about $2,950/month.

Im pretty sure ur supposed to get more!!! My sister has a 9 month old and gets like $175 on her P-EBT. Did u apply for the right program?? There's P-EBT, CalFresh EBT, and WIC and they all different things. Check ur approval letter it should say the exact amount ur supposed to get each month.

•This is incorrect information. P-EBT benefit amounts vary based on several factors including household income, state of residence, and specific program guidelines for the current year. The $175 your sister receives could be from a combination of programs or her situation might be different. @OP - check your approval notice for the correct amount specific to your case, and don't compare benefit amounts with others as they're individualized.

When I got P-EBT last year for my infant, I also only got around $90, which didn't seem like much. But I found out that P-EBT is just a supplemental program and not meant to cover all food costs. The way the program works now in 2025 is totally different from the pandemic era when benefits were higher. You mentioned you have WIC - are you getting the full formula allowance through that program? Because WIC + P-EBT together should help more than either alone. Also, definitely follow up on your CalFresh application! With a family of 3 and that income level, you should qualify for something additional, which would come on a separate EBT card from your P-EBT.

•Yes, I'm getting the full formula allowance through WIC but it still runs out before the month ends. Formula costs have gotten so crazy expensive. I'll definitely call about my CalFresh application status - it's been almost 30 days and I haven't heard anything.

•This is actually really common with CalFresh applications. I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to a live person at the county office quickly. Their service connects you directly to a CalFresh worker without waiting on hold for hours. I was in a similar situation where my application was just sitting there, used their service and got it resolved in one call. You can see how it works in their demo video: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 or just go to claimyr.com. Especially with a baby, you don't want to wait weeks for benefits you need now.

MY P-EBT IS ALWAYS DIFFERENT AMOUNTS EVERY MONTH! I have a 1 year old and it's never the same. Sometimes $88, sometimes $102, once it was $132. I called the P-EBT hotline and they said it depends on changing eligibility factors every month. So frustrating that you can't count on a specific amount!!! But yeah, they load it all at once, not in parts.

•You're absolutely right that P-EBT amounts can vary from month to month. This is because P-EBT is calculated differently than regular CalFresh. For young children in 2025, the benefit level is based on statewide metrics for food insecurity and other factors that can change monthly. That's why it's important to also apply for regular CalFresh which tends to be more stable in benefit amounts from month to month (unless your income changes).

To clarify some misinformation in this thread: P-EBT for infants in 2025 typically ranges from $75-$112 per month depending on your specific eligibility factors. The $88 you received is within the normal range. This benefit is automatically loaded in full once per month, so you won't receive additional deposits for August. Your next step should absolutely be following up on your CalFresh application, as that program provides more substantial benefits than P-EBT. With your income level for a family of 3 ($2,950/month), you could potentially qualify for approximately $300-450 in monthly CalFresh benefits, depending on your housing costs and other deductions. Call the county office to check your application status immediately - they're required to process applications within 30 days, and you're nearing that deadline.

•Thank you so much for the clear explanation! That makes sense that $88 is the normal range. I'll definitely call about my CalFresh application today. If we could get $300+ in additional benefits, that would make a huge difference for us right now.

OMG i just remembered somethin important!!! Make sure ur using the right card!! P-EBT comes on a different card than regular CalFresh EBT. My cousin was checking the wrong card for months and thought she wasnt getting benefits lol.

•Good point! I'm definitely checking the P-EBT card specifically (it has my name on it) and that's where I saw the $88. Still waiting on the CalFresh decision so don't have a regular EBT card yet.

Did you just start receiving P-EBT recently? Sometimes they do back payments if you were eligible for previous months but hadn't been enrolled yet. So the $88 might just be for August, but you might get additional deposits for previous months if you were eligible but not receiving benefits. Worth asking when you call about your CalFresh application.

•That's a great point! Yes, we just got approved last month. I'll definitely ask about potential back payments when I call. Thanks!

I just went through this exact situation. Called the county about my CalFresh application after waiting 3+ weeks and found out they needed verification documents they never told me about. I used the Claimyr service (claimyr.com) to get through quickly - they connected me directly to a caseworker in about 15 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. The worker told me that with a baby, we qualified for expedited CalFresh processing but the system hadn't flagged our application correctly. Got everything sorted in one call and had benefits within 3 days after waiting weeks. Definitely worth calling ASAP.

•Thank you so much! I'll check out that service today. I've tried calling the regular number twice before and got disconnected after waiting 45+ minutes each time. Really appreciate the recommendation!

One additional note: Make sure when you follow up about your CalFresh application that you ask if you qualify for expedited services. With an infant and limited income, you might be eligible to receive benefits within 3 days instead of waiting up to 30 days for regular processing. You'll need to specifically ask about this as sometimes the expedited service eligibility isn't automatically checked. Also, request a benefit calculation breakdown so you understand exactly how your benefit amount is determined.

•This!!! When I applied for CalFresh after my baby was born, I had no idea about expedited services and waited the full 30 days. Then found out later we could have gotten benefits within 3 days. The system doesn't always catch this automatically - you have to advocate for yourself!
