Can't see EBT balance on BenefitsCal anymore - did they remove this feature?
I used to check my CalFresh EBT balance directly through BenefitsCal.com, but I logged in yesterday and can't find that option anywhere. Did they remove this feature in the latest update? I'm trying to budget for my grocery shopping this weekend and don't want to drive to the store without knowing how much I have left. The EBT phone line is always so busy and I can never get through. Any workarounds or am I missing something obvious? This is really frustrating!

They moved that feature a few months ago during the system update. Now you need to click on 'My Benefits' first, then scroll down to 'EBT Account Information' and you should see your balance there. If you don't see that option, it might be because you're accessing during their nightly maintenance window (usually 11PM-5AM). The system has been glitchy since they integrated with the new verification portal too.

Thanks! I checked under 'My Benefits' but there's no 'EBT Account Information' section showing up for me. All I see is my case status and benefit amount, but not the actual remaining balance. Maybe it's county-specific? I'm in Los Angeles County if that matters.

The ConnectEBT app is garbage tho!!! Crashes every other time I use it and sometimes shows wrong balances. I used it last month and it said I had $126 left but when I got to the store my card got declined because I only had $6.42!! So embarrassing with a full cart.

BenefitsCal.com has been rolling out different interfaces county by county throughout 2025. Some counties still have the balance feature directly visible, while others have moved it or removed it completely in favor of the ConnectEBT app integration. \n\nHere are your options to check your balance:\n\n1. Call the EBT customer service number on the back of your card (though as you mentioned, wait times can be long)\n2. Download the ConnectEBT mobile app\n3. Check at an ATM or store by running a balance inquiry (free)\n4. Look at your last receipt from a store where you used your EBT card\n\nIf you need to speak with someone at your county office about this or other CalFresh issues and can't get through, I recently discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they help you skip the phone wait times and get connected to a real person. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

Thank you for all these options! I'll try the ConnectEBT app first. I've been avoiding downloading more apps, but seems like I don't have much choice. That Claimyr service looks interesting too - might use that when it's recertification time next month since that's always a nightmare to get through on the phone.

have u tried logging out and back in? sometimes that fixes weird glitches with the site. or try a different browser, chrome works best for me

Tried both of those already 😕 Logged out/in twice and tried with Firefox and Safari. Same issue on both browsers. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Just so everyone has the correct information - the EBT balance feature on BenefitsCal hasn't been completely removed system-wide. It's still there but varies by county implementation. Each county office handles their interface slightly differently within the state system.\n\nIf you're having technical issues with BenefitsCal, report it to the CalFresh technical support team at support@benefitscal.com or through the feedback form on the site. They actually do track these issues and work on fixes, especially if multiple people report the same problem.

LOL sure, I've sent FIVE emails to that address over the past 2 months about missing documents and NEVER got a single response! But good luck to anyone who tries! 🙄

UPDATE: I finally got this resolved! For anyone having the same issue - I downloaded the ConnectEBT app and was able to see my balance there. Also, I called the county office (had to try 3 times because they kept disconnecting me) and they said this is a known issue affecting some accounts. They're working on fixing it, but no timeline on when it'll be back. The caseworker suggested just using the app for now since it's more reliable for balance checking anyway. Thanks everyone for your help!

Thanks for updating us! Good to know it's a system issue and not just user error. I'll recommend the app to my clients who mention this problem.

Glad you got it sorted out! The ConnectEBT app definitely has its quirks but it's been more reliable for me than the website lately. Pro tip for anyone using it - make sure to refresh/pull down on the balance screen before checking, sometimes it shows old cached data. Also, if the app crashes on you, try clearing the cache in your phone settings before reinstalling. That usually fixes most of the glitches I've experienced with it.

•That's a really helpful tip about refreshing the balance screen! I just started using the ConnectEBT app after this whole BenefitsCal issue and didn't realize it might show cached data. I was wondering why sometimes the balance seemed off from what I expected. Will definitely try the cache clearing trick if I run into crashes. Thanks for sharing these workarounds - it's so helpful when people post the actual fixes that work instead of just complaining about the problems!

Just wanted to chime in with another workaround that's been working for me - if you have a smartphone, you can also text your EBT card number to the customer service text line (the number should be on the back of your card or in any paperwork you got). It usually responds pretty quickly with your balance, and you don't have to deal with busy phone lines or app crashes. I know it's not as convenient as having it right on BenefitsCal, but it's been a lifesaver when I'm standing in the grocery store checkout line trying to figure out if I have enough left! Hope this helps someone else dealing with the same frustration.
