CalFresh won't cover diapers - where to find diaper assistance in Antioch/Pittsburg area?
So frustrated right now! Just realized my CalFresh benefits can't be used for diapers (which makes no sense since my 8-month-old needs them!). I recently got approved for benefits but I'm still struggling to cover all our basics. Does anyone know where I can get diaper assistance in the Antioch/Pittsburg area? My county worker wasn't helpful at all - just said 'CalFresh is for food only' but didn't offer ANY alternatives. I'm down to my last 5 diapers and don't get paid until next Friday. Any resources would be hugely appreciated!

ya the calfrsh rules are rlly strict abt being food only. its annoying. try calling First 5 Contra Costa - they sometimes have emergency diaper programs. also check with the family resource center in pittsburg, they did diaper giveaways last yr not sure if still happening

While CalFresh is specifically for food purchases, there are several resources in the Antioch/Pittsburg area that can help with diapers: 1. Contra Costa Family Resource Centers - They often have diaper banks. The one in Antioch is at 300 G Street, phone: 925-755-7311. 2. Community Assistance Program at St. Vincent de Paul - They provide emergency supplies including diapers. 3. WIC (Women, Infants & Children) - If you're not already enrolled, they can help with formula and other resources, though not directly with diapers. 4. Contra Costa Crisis Center - Call 211 for immediate connection to diaper assistance programs. For longer-term help, see if you qualify for CalWORKs which provides cash aid that can be used for necessities like diapers.

•This is SO helpful, thank you! I'm already on WIC but didn't know about the others. Going to call the Family Resource Center first thing tomorrow. Really appreciate the detailed info!

Ugh it makes me SO MAD that CalFresh doesn't cover diapers!!! What do they think babies are supposed to do?? The whole system is broken. I'm a single mom too and have been through this struggle. Try calling Delta Community Services at 925-439-5060. They sometimes have emergency diaper assistance but it's hit or miss. The wait for CalWORKs is ridiculous right now btw - took me 45 days to get approved last year.

•Thank you for understanding! It IS maddening. Like, my baby needs food AND diapers to survive, how is one covered but not the other?? I'll try Delta too. Was hoping to avoid CalWORKs because I heard the process is a nightmare but might have to try.

When I was struggling to reach anyone at the county about my benefits, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me actually get through to a real person right away. They have a short video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 For diapers specifically, I'd recommend contacting Community Presbyterian Church in Pittsburg - they have a "Bundles of Joy" program that provides diapers twice monthly. Also, check with Calvary Temple Church in Concord if you can get there - their diaper bank is open on Wednesdays.

•Yes, it worked for me! I was skeptical too but after being on hold for 2+ hours multiple days, I tried it and got through in about 10 minutes. Saved me a ton of stress when I was dealing with my recertification issues.

Hi there! I volunteer at Solomon Temple food pantry in Pittsburg and we just started a diaper program last month! We distribute on Tuesdays from 10am-12pm at 655 California Ave. You just need to bring ID and your baby's birth certificate. Hope this helps with your immediate need!

•Oh my gosh, thank you SO much! This Tuesday would be perfect timing before I get paid. You're literally saving us right now. I'll definitely be there with his birth certificate!

To add to the great resources already mentioned, you might also consider: 1. Eastbay Diaper Bank - They work through partner agencies in Contra Costa County 2. Applying for Emergency CalFresh if you haven't already - while it won't cover diapers, it might free up some money in your budget. Expedited services can provide benefits within 3 days if you qualify. 3. Healthy Families America home visiting program through Contra Costa Health Services - they sometimes have emergency supplies 4. The National Diaper Bank Network has a locator tool on their website that might show additional resources Remember that if you're working with limited income, you should definitely explore CalWORKs eligibility since it provides cash aid that can be used for necessities like diapers. The program limits increased in 2025, so you might qualify even if you didn't before.

•Thank you! I've already got regular CalFresh but I'll look into all these options. I appreciate everyone being so helpful - I was feeling really alone in this situation this morning.

one more tip: join the 'buy nothing pittsburg/antioch' group on facebook. i see people giving away opened packages of diapers all the time when their kids outgrow sizes. helped me bridge the gap a few times!
