I went through this exact situation last year. You CAN get your benefits recalculated mid-period when your income decreases, despite what some people are saying. However, the process can be frustrating. What worked for me: 1. Submitted a "Voluntary Mid-Period Report" (some counties call it different things) 2. Included ALL my recent paystubs showing the decrease 3. Wrote a brief explanation about the variable nature of my work hours 4. FOLLOWED UP multiple times - this was key They initially denied my request, but when I spoke with a supervisor and cited the regulations about mid-period decreases, they approved it. The regulations specifically state that counties MUST act on reported decreases in income. As for the overpayment, unfortunately that's probably still valid and separate from your current situation.
Thank you for sharing your experience! This gives me hope. Did you have to physically go into the office or were you able to submit everything online? And did they retroactively increase your benefits or just fix it going forward?
btw u should apply for calfresh emergency supplement if ur in a bad spot, they can give u extra benefits in 3 days if u qualify
They won't approve emergency benefits for this situation. Those are only for new applicants or extreme circumstances like disasters. Don't waste your time.
The previous comment is incorrect. Emergency supplements are primarily for new applicants, but existing recipients can request emergency allotments if they've experienced a significant financial hardship that affects their ability to purchase food. While it's not guaranteed, it's worth asking about when you contact your worker about the mid-period reporting.
Based on your follow-up comments, it sounds like you're receiving the California Food Assistance Program (CFAP) supplement. This is a state-funded program specifically for legal permanent residents who don't qualify for federal SNAP/CalFresh due to immigration status requirements. CFAP benefits are typically issued separately from regular CalFresh, which explains why you're seeing two different deposits. The timing of CFAP deposits can sometimes differ from the regular CalFresh schedule. If you've been receiving it consistently until now, I'd recommend: 1. Checking BenefitsCal for any notices 2. Contacting your eligibility worker directly if possible 3. If you can't reach them, try calling the San Bernardino EBT customer service line at 877-328-9677 They might be experiencing delays this month, but it's always good to verify nothing has changed with your eligibility.
Thank you! This makes so much more sense now. I appreciate the explanation and the phone number - I'll try calling them tomorrow morning.
Just checked - YES! Mine came through too, finally. Thanks for the update! Looks like they were just running behind this month.
UPDATE: My benefits just loaded! Just checked my EBT balance and the pending status is gone, full February amount is now available. Check your accounts everyone!
YESSSS mine too!! Just got the text notification. Thank goodness, was about to have a complete breakdown. Thanks everyone for the support through this!
For anyone still showing pending status: I just received confirmation from the state CalFresh office that all remaining pending cases should be resolved by tomorrow morning. The technical issue affected approximately 30% of cases statewide, primarily those with case numbers ending in specific digits. If your benefits aren't available by tomorrow afternoon, you should contact your county office directly as your case might have a different issue requiring individual attention.
Just to clarify for everyone: The Winter Relief Supplement is being distributed to ALL CalFresh households in Los Angeles County in batches from January 13-18, 2025. Each zip code range has specific days. Here's the exact schedule for Palmdale areas: 93550: January 14-15 93551: January 15-16 93552: January 15-16 93590/93591/93599: January 16-17 The amount is 40% of your regular benefit, and it will have a separate transaction description on your EBT account history labeled "WINTER RELIEF SUPP". This is separate from regular CalFresh benefits AND separate from the SNB (Supplemental Nutrition Benefit) that some households receive.
Also, don't forget to submit your SAR7 if it's due this month! They will absolutely cut off your benefits including any supplemental payments if your semi-annual report is late. I learned that the hard way last year when I missed mine by 3 days and had to reapply completely.

Just to clarify a few things about Summer EBT since there seems to be some confusion: 1. It's a new permanent program, not the same as P-EBT 2. California has opted in, but implementation is still in progress 3. Eligible children will likely receive about $120 total for summer 2024 4. Most CalFresh households with school-age children should qualify automatically 5. The state must develop an implementation plan, so timing and details are still being finalized The best thing to do is stay informed through official channels and prepare alternative food budgeting plans just in case the benefits are delayed or eligibility requirements change.

•Thanks for breaking it down so clearly! I'll definitely be making a backup plan for our summer food budget. Really hoping this comes through though - $120 per kid would make a huge difference for us.

Has anyone actually CONFIRMED with their county worker that this Summer EBT is happening FOR SURE? I don't want to get my hopes up again. Last time I called my county about a benefits question, they gave me completely WRONG information and I ended up with a gap in coverage!!

•I called San Bernardino County last week about something else but asked about Summer EBT while I had them on the phone. The worker confirmed California is participating but said they're still waiting on guidance from the state about implementation. She couldn't give specifics on dates or amounts yet.
