a friend told me u can also try calling ur kids school district office sometimes they have a pebt coordinator who can check on card status. worked for her but not me lol worth a try tho
UPDATE: I finally got through to P-EBT this morning using the Claimyr service that was mentioned earlier. Confirmed that cards for my 3 kids were mailed on March 12th as I thought, but the representative said there have been massive mail delays with this batch. She's sending replacement cards and canceling the old ones just in case. Should arrive within 10-15 business days. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions! Will update when the new cards arrive.
Just to add a bit more information - the new system that's gradually replacing BenefitsCal is called CalSAWS (California Statewide Automated Welfare System). It's been in development for years and is meant to unify all 58 counties under one system. The transition is happening in phases, and Sacramento County might be in one of the current transition phases. During these transitions, some online features might be temporarily limited while they migrate data. Your best bet is to: 1. Follow your worker's specific instructions 2. Submit your paper recertification with plenty of time before deadline (at least 2 weeks) 3. Keep a copy of everything you submit 4. Get a receipt or confirmation of submission if possible 5. Call a week after submitting to confirm they received it The system should stabilize again after the transition period.
after reading all these comments im confused now too lol. seems like everyone's county is doing something different?? typical government mess tbh
did they actually confirm the theft claim??? cuz i had benefits stolen too and they kept saying they were investigating but nothing happened for like 2 months and i had to keep calling
Update from my earlier comment - if she's also missing her CalWORKs benefits, this is even more serious. The county is required to process expedited CalWORKs benefits in emergency situations. She should specifically ask about "immediate need CalWORKs" which can be issued within 3 business days when there are children in the household with no resources for basic necessities. Make sure she uses these exact terms when she gets through to someone.
Has anyone tried the new PIN-less EBT cards some counties were testing? My sister says they're using biometric verification instead of PINs but I can't find ANY information about it on the CalFresh website! Seems like they're keeping it quiet but it would solve all these theft problems!
There are currently no PIN-less or biometric EBT cards being tested in California's CalFresh program. All EBT cards still require a 4-digit PIN for security. You might be confusing this with some pilot programs for mobile EBT that allow you to use your phone for transactions, but these still require PIN verification. It's important not to spread misinformation about security features that don't exist yet.
I just wanted to update everyone - I changed my PIN yesterday and also ordered those RFID blocking sleeves. I'm going to change my PIN again the day before benefits load just to be extra safe. Thank you all for the advice! I'll let you know if it helps prevent theft this month.

•Make sure you're reporting all eligible deductions when you submit your SAR7 or recertification. These include: - Child care costs - Medical expenses over $35/month for elderly or disabled household members - Child support payments - Excess housing costs Also, if anyone in your household is enrolled in a qualifying education/training program, ask about the Student EFC (Educational Food Credit). And always report any decrease in income right away - don't wait for your SAR7 if your income goes down.

I still CANNOT believe they ended these benefits when inflation is this bad! My grocery bill has nearly DOUBLED since 2020 but my benefits went back to the pre-pandemic amount!! The government doesn't care if people go hungry!! Does anyone know if there's a petition or something we can sign to bring back the emergency allotments??

•I understand your frustration, but the emergency allotments were always meant to be temporary during the public health emergency. The regular CalFresh program is still in place and benefits did receive a cost of living adjustment last October. Rather than looking for petitions about emergency allotments (which were tied specifically to the COVID emergency declaration), you might want to contact your representatives about supporting legislation to increase regular SNAP benefit calculations to better reflect current food costs. The USDA's Thrifty Food Plan, which determines benefit amounts, was updated in 2021 but many argue it still doesn't adequately account for today's food prices.
