lol good luck. i've been trying to get ahold of someone at the DMV for WEEKS. this whole system is a joke tbh π€‘
Have you tried going in person? Sometimes its faster than dealing with the phone nightmare.
ugh, no. i'd rather eat glass than spend all day waiting in line at the DMV π«
Hey Angel! I just went through this same process a couple months ago. When you call, definitely ask if they can email you a confirmation with your hearing date and time - sometimes they forget to mention this but it's super helpful to have in writing. Also, ask what specific documents you'll need to bring related to your documentation issue. The staff at Porterville are usually pretty helpful once you get through to someone. Hang in there! πͺ
This whole situation sounds super stressful! I went through something similar when I transferred my motorcycle title last year. One thing that really helped me was checking my credit card or bank statement to see if any DMV fees were actually charged - if they took payment, there's a good chance your submission went through even without the confirmation page loading. Also, I'd recommend trying the DMV's online chat feature if they still have it active - sometimes it's faster than calling and they can look up your transaction using your license plate or VIN. The chat agents were surprisingly helpful when I used it. If all else fails, you can always file a duplicate notice and they'll sort out any duplicates on their end. Better to be extra cautious when it comes to liability issues! Hope you get it resolved quickly! π€
That's really solid advice about checking for charges on your bank statement! I hadn't thought about using that as proof the transaction went through. The online chat feature is a great suggestion too - I always forget about that option but you're right, it's often faster than waiting on hold. Really appreciate you mentioning the duplicate filing option as a backup plan. It's reassuring to know the DMV can handle duplicates on their end if needed. Thanks for sharing your motorcycle transfer experience - gives me hope this will work out! π
This whole thread is incredible! So many helpful suggestions. I just want to add one more thing that saved me when I had a similar DMV website crash - if you remember approximately what time you submitted it, try calling and asking them to search their system logs for that specific timeframe. I had to do this once when their payment went through but I never got confirmation. The DMV tech was actually able to find my submission in their database using my name, the timestamp, and vehicle info. It took some digging on their part, but they found it! Also, definitely save/bookmark this thread - this is like a masterclass in dealing with DMV website failures. You all have covered literally every possible angle to try. Paolo, I'm confident you'll get this sorted out with all these great strategies! π
This is such a great addition to all the fantastic advice! The system log search by timestamp is brilliant - I never would have thought the DMV could dig that deep into their database. It's really encouraging to know they're willing to do that kind of detective work when needed. You're absolutely right about bookmarking this thread - this has turned into the ultimate DMV troubleshooting guide! Paolo is so lucky to have stumbled into this community with all these experienced folks sharing their solutions. Between all the different approaches mentioned here (payment confirmation, browser history, automated phone system, kiosks, system logs, etc.), there's got to be at least one that works. Thanks for adding another solid strategy to the toolkit! πͺ
Hot take: the whole vehicle title system is outdated AF. Why isn't this all digital by now? We can transfer thousands of dollars instantly but a car title takes weeks? Make it make sense π€¦ββοΈ
Preach! π The government needs to get with the times. Blockchain could solve this so easily.
Yeah right, like the DMV could handle blockchain π They can barely handle paper
I went through this exact same nightmare a few months ago! Here's what worked for me: I went to the DMV office first thing in the morning (like 7:30 AM before they opened) and explained the situation. They were able to do an immediate duplicate title for an extra $15 rush fee. Took about 2 hours total. Way faster than waiting for mail or trying to get through on the phone. Just make sure you bring your registration, ID, and proof of your new address. The buyer was super understanding when I explained the DMV mix-up too. Good luck! π€

I work at a DMV office and see this issue fairly regularly. Don't panic about the deadline - you'll be fine! For overseas military births, we definitely need to process these in person since the online system can't handle the unique location codes. Bring your original birth certificate (should show the military base), your passport or certificate of citizenship, and all the usual RealID docs. Most of our staff know how to handle military overseas births, but if you get someone new, just ask for a supervisor. We have special procedures for this exact situation. Also, just FYI - the May 7, 2025 federal deadline is the real one that matters for flying domestically. Some states set earlier internal deadlines but those are more for processing logistics. You've got time! Pro tip: Try to go mid-morning on a weekday if possible. Lines are usually shorter and staff are fresh. Good luck! πΊπΈ
