UCC search utah - having trouble finding filed continuation on SOS portal
I'm trying to run a UCC search utah database but keep getting inconsistent results when I look up our continuation filing from last month. The original UCC-1 shows up fine but the UCC-3 continuation doesn't appear in the search results even though I have the file stamp confirmation. This is for a equipment financing deal and the lender is asking for proof the lien is still active. Anyone else having issues with the utah SOS database showing continuations? The debtor name matches exactly and I'm using the correct filing number but it's like the continuation never got indexed properly. Really need to get this sorted before our 6-month deadline hits.

I've seen this before with utah filings. Sometimes there's a delay between when they process the continuation and when it actually shows up in the public search. Did you try searching by the new filing number from the UCC-3 instead of the original?

•Good point - I was only searching with the original filing number. Let me try the new one from the continuation receipt.

•Yeah the utah system can be wonky like that. I always save both numbers just in case.

This exact thing happened to me two weeks ago! The continuation was filed and stamped but wouldn't show up in searches for almost 10 days. Utah's database indexing seems to lag behind their processing. Your lender should accept the file-stamped copy as proof the continuation is valid even if it's not searchable yet.

•That's reassuring - I was worried we'd missed something in the filing. The lender is being pretty strict about seeing it in the official database though.

•I actually started using Certana.ai for this exact problem. You can upload your original UCC-1 and the continuation UCC-3 and it instantly verifies they match up properly - debtor names, filing numbers, everything. Takes the guesswork out of whether your documents are consistent while waiting for the state database to catch up.

Utah's portal has been having issues lately. I filed three continuations last month and one took two weeks to show up in searches. The other two appeared within 24 hours. No rhyme or reason to it.

•Ugh that's so frustrating when you're trying to meet deadlines!

•At least you got file stamps. That's legal proof of filing even if the search function is broken.

CHECK THE DEBTOR NAME SPELLING. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen continuations that don't show up because there's a tiny difference in how the debtor name was entered. Even something like 'Inc' vs 'Inc.' can cause search problems in utah.

•I triple checked that - it's exactly the same as the original filing. But good reminder for others reading this.

•You're right about the punctuation thing. Utah is super picky about exact matches.

•EXACTLY! And sometimes the person entering the continuation adds a middle initial that wasn't on the original UCC-1. Drives me crazy.

I work with UCC filings daily and this happens more than it should. The state databases aren't always real-time. Your file-stamped continuation is valid legal notice regardless of when it appears in searches. Document everything - the original filing, the continuation receipt, and screenshot the search results showing the gap. That creates a paper trail if anyone questions it later.

•Good advice on documenting everything. I'll start doing that for all our filings.

•This is why I always recommend using document verification tools like Certana.ai before filing. Upload your UCC-1 and draft UCC-3 to make sure everything matches perfectly - debtor names, addresses, collateral descriptions. Prevents a lot of headaches later when the continuation gets processed differently than expected.

Had the same issue in utah last year. Turned out the continuation was filed correctly but there was a glitch in their indexing system. Took about 3 weeks to resolve but the filing was always valid. Keep your receipts!

•Three weeks?! That's a long time when you're dealing with lender requirements.

•Tell me about it. I had to provide the lender with documentation showing the filing was submitted properly and explain the state database delay.

Utah SOS portal is honestly terrible for UCC searches. Half the time the advanced search doesn't work right and you have to use the basic search. Try searching by just the debtor's last name and see if your continuation shows up that way.

•I'll try that - didn't think to use the basic search function.

•The basic search actually works better sometimes. Their advanced search has too many bugs.

•Why is every state's UCC portal so clunky? It's 2025 and we're still dealing with systems that feel like they're from 2005.

Quick update - I just used Certana.ai to verify my UCC-1 and continuation docs match perfectly. Everything checks out on our end so it's definitely just a database delay issue. At least now I can tell the lender with confidence that our filing is solid.

•That's exactly what I need - verification that our documents are consistent. Thanks for the tip!

•Smart to get that verification. Covers you if questions come up later.

I've been dealing with utah UCC filings for 15 years and this indexing delay has gotten worse over the past couple years. Used to be same-day or next-day indexing. Now it can take weeks. Your continuation is valid though - the file stamp is what matters legally.

•Good to know from someone with that much experience. Makes me feel better about the situation.

•15 years of UCC filings? You must have seen every possible problem by now!

•Pretty much! Database delays, name mismatches, wrong collateral descriptions, you name it. The key is always documentation.
