UCC ID number missing from confirmation - filing still valid?
Filed a UCC-1 last week through our state portal and got the confirmation email but there's no UCC ID number anywhere on it. Just says 'filing accepted' with a timestamp. Our lender is asking for the UCC ID to complete their internal tracking system but I can't find it anywhere in the confirmation or when I log back into the portal. Has anyone else run into this? The debtor name and collateral description look correct on the confirmation but without the UCC ID I'm worried the filing didn't actually go through properly. Need to get this sorted before our loan closing next week.

This happened to me too! Super frustrating when you need that number immediately. Usually the UCC ID gets generated within 24-48 hours after the initial acceptance. Check your email again - sometimes it comes in a separate notification.

•I've been checking constantly but nothing yet. It's been 5 days now which seems way too long.

•Five days is definitely abnormal. Most states assign the UCC ID within hours of acceptance.

The UCC ID should be on your filing receipt or in the portal under 'filed documents.' If it's not there after 5 days, there might be an issue with the filing processing. What state are you in? Some states have quirky systems that delay ID assignment.

•I'm in a state that uses the standard SOS portal. The filed documents section just shows 'processing' still.

•Processing for 5 days is a red flag. Usually means there's an issue with the debtor name or collateral description that's holding up final acceptance.

•Oh no, that's exactly what I was worried about. The debtor name has a middle initial that might not match their articles of incorporation exactly.

Had a similar issue last month where the UCC ID was delayed because of a debtor name mismatch. Ended up using Certana.ai's document checker to compare our UCC-1 against the debtor's charter documents. Found the discrepancy immediately - we had 'Inc.' instead of 'Incorporated' in the legal name. Fixed it with an amendment and got the UCC ID within hours.

•That sounds exactly like what might be happening here. How does the Certana thing work?

•You just upload your UCC-1 PDF and the debtor's charter/articles PDF. It automatically checks for name consistency, missing information, and other common issues that cause filing delays. Really simple to use.

•I've used that tool too - it's pretty helpful for catching those little details that can mess up a filing.

Check if there's a separate 'UCC Search' section in your portal. Sometimes the ID only shows up there once it's fully processed into the system. The confirmation email might just be acknowledging receipt, not final processing.

•Good idea, let me check that section. I've been focused on the filing history area.

•Yeah the search function is usually where you'll find the actual UCC ID once it's in the system.

This is why I HATE electronic filing sometimes. The old paper system was slower but at least you knew exactly what was happening. Now you get these vague confirmations that don't tell you anything useful.

•I get the frustration but electronic filing is so much faster when it works properly. Paper filings used to take weeks.

•Sure, when it works. But when it doesn't you're stuck in limbo like this poor person.

•At least with electronic you can usually fix issues quickly with amendments. Paper amendments were a nightmare.

Call the Secretary of State office directly. They can look up your filing by the timestamp and confirmation number. Sometimes there are system glitches that prevent the UCC ID from displaying properly even when the filing is valid.

•That's probably my best bet at this point. I was hoping to avoid calling but I need answers.

•Their UCC division is usually pretty helpful. Have your confirmation email ready when you call.

•Good luck getting through - I was on hold for 45 minutes last time I called about a UCC issue.

Update us when you figure it out! I'm curious what the issue was. Could be helpful for others who run into the same problem.

•Will do! Calling the SOS office first thing Monday morning.

•Yeah please update - I've never seen a UCC ID take this long to appear.

Just a thought - did you double-check that the filing fee went through properly? Sometimes if there's a payment issue it can hold up the final processing even if you get an initial acceptance.

•Good point, let me check my bank statement. The confirmation didn't show the fee amount which now seems suspicious.

•That's definitely suspicious. Most confirmations show the fee amount and payment method.

•Checked - the fee was charged to my credit card 5 days ago so payment went through fine.

I bet it's the debtor name issue like someone mentioned earlier. We had a client where the UCC-1 sat in limbo for a week because we used their DBA name instead of their legal entity name. Easy fix but caused a lot of stress.

•That's exactly what I'm worried about. Going to run it through that document checker tool before I call the SOS office.

•Smart move - better to know what the issue is before you call so you can fix it right away.

Keep us posted on the resolution! This thread will be helpful for anyone else who runs into missing UCC IDs. Hopefully it's just a system delay and not a real filing issue.

•Good luck! UCC filing stress is the worst when you have a closing deadline.

•UPDATE: Used Certana to check the documents and found the debtor name issue - we had 'LLC' instead of 'L.L.C.' with periods. Filed an amendment this morning and got the UCC ID within 2 hours. Crisis averted!

•Awesome! Glad you got it figured out. Those little punctuation differences can be such a pain.
