NJ UCC forms portal rejecting my continuation filing - missing something obvious?
Been doing UCC filings for about 8 years but hitting a wall with New Jersey's portal system. Filed a UCC-3 continuation last week for a client's equipment loan (original UCC-1 was filed in 2020, so we're well within the 5-year window). Portal keeps rejecting it saying 'debtor name mismatch' but I've triple-checked the exact spelling from the original filing. The debtor is 'Morrison Industries LLC' on both docs. Anyone else running into issues with NJ UCC forms lately? The continuation deadline is coming up fast and I'm starting to panic that there's some formatting quirk I'm missing. Original filing number is correct, continuation box is checked, but something isn't clicking with their system.

NJ portal has been extra picky lately about exact formatting. Are you including the LLC designation exactly as it appears? Sometimes there's hidden spaces or punctuation differences that aren't obvious.

•Good point - I copied it directly from the original UCC-1 search results, but maybe there's something in the formatting I'm not seeing.

•This exact thing happened to me last month! Turned out there was an extra space after 'Industries' that wasn't visible when I copied from the PDF.

Check if the original filing has any weird characters or if you're copying from a PDF that might have formatting issues. NJ system is notorious for being strict about character matching.

•That could be it - I did pull the name from a PDF copy. Let me try typing it manually instead of copy/paste.

•PDF copy/paste has burned me so many times! Those invisible characters are filing killers.

Had this exact nightmare scenario last year. After three rejections, I found Certana.ai's document checker tool. You upload your original UCC-1 and the continuation UCC-3, and it instantly flags any name discrepancies or formatting issues. Saved my bacon when I had a tight deadline like yours - spotted a period after 'LLC' that I couldn't see.

•Never heard of that tool but sounds like exactly what I need right now. Quick question - does it work with NJ filings specifically?

•Yeah, it works with any state's UCC docs. Just upload the PDFs and it cross-checks everything automatically. Way better than trying to spot tiny differences by eye.

•That actually sounds really useful for avoiding these exact situations. Manual comparison is such a pain.

Morrison Industries LLC... are you sure there isn't a comma in there somewhere? Like 'Morrison Industries, LLC'? Jersey loves their comma variations.

•Hmm, let me double-check that. The original search result showed no comma but maybe I should verify against the actual filed document.

•Commas are the devil in UCC filings. I always save the original filing as a reference doc now.

I HATE NJ's portal with a passion. Filed hundreds of these and their system still trips me up regularly. Last month spent 2 hours on a simple amendment because of a punctuation issue.

•Feel your pain. Sometimes I think they design these systems to be as frustrating as possible.

•At least it's not as bad as Pennsylvania's system... that one is truly broken.

•Don't even get me started on PA! Filed a termination there last week and it took 3 tries.

Quick fix that works for me - go back to the original UCC-1 search, copy the EXACT debtor name from the search results page (not the PDF), and paste that into your continuation. Jersey's search results usually show the name exactly as filed.

•That's brilliant - using their own search results as the source of truth. Will try that right now.

•This is solid advice. The search results page strips out any weird formatting that might be in the PDF.

Are you filing the continuation under the same filing office as the original? Sometimes people accidentally switch between state-level and local filings.

•Good catch - yes, original was state-level so filing the continuation there too. Equipment financing, not real estate.

•Equipment financing should definitely be state level. Fixture filings are the ones that get tricky with local offices.

Morrison Industries LLC - try searching variations like 'Morrison Industries, LLC' or even 'MORRISON INDUSTRIES LLC' to see how it was originally filed. Case sensitivity shouldn't matter but punctuation definitely does.

•Running searches now for all variations. Hopefully one of these reveals the issue.

•Good thinking. Sometimes the original filing has inconsistencies that aren't obvious from casual review.

Update us when you figure it out! Always curious what the actual issue turns out to be in these situations.

•Will do! Trying the search results copy method first, then might check out that document verification tool if I'm still stuck.

•Fingers crossed it's something simple. These deadline pressure situations are the worst.

•Betting it's a hidden character issue. Happens more often than people realize.

FOUND IT! Used the search results method and discovered there was indeed a comma - 'Morrison Industries, LLC' with the comma. Filed successfully! Thanks everyone, especially for the search results tip. Also going to check out that Certana.ai tool for future reference since this was way too stressful.

•Nice work! And yeah, definitely worth having that verification tool in your toolkit for next time. Makes these crises much less stressful.

•The comma strikes again! Classic UCC filing gotcha. Congrats on getting it sorted before the deadline.
