Where to find my FAFSA SAI score after submitting application
I just submitted my FAFSA application yesterday and signed it electronically, but I can't figure out where to find my SAI score. I've looked all over studentaid.gov and checked my email like 50 times, but nothing shows my actual SAI number. My college is asking for this info by next week for scholarship consideration. Do I need to wait for something in the mail? Is there a specific page on the website where the SAI appears after processing? I'm so confused about what happens after submission!

Your SAI (Student Aid Index) isn't available immediately after submission. The FAFSA takes about 3-5 business days to process first. Once processed, log into studentaid.gov, go to 'My FAFSA' section, and click on your processed 2025-2026 application. You should see your SAI in the confirmation page or in your Student Aid Report (SAR). You can also click on 'View SAR' to see the full report with your SAI score.

•3-5 days?! My college's priority deadline is next Friday! Will I still make it in time for scholarship consideration?

•Nothing in spam either :( Maybe because I submitted through the mobile app? Did you use the website or the app?

Omg I'm having the EXACT same problem!!! I submitted last week, got the confirmation email saying it was processed, but NO SAI ANYWHERE!!! I even downloaded the SAR PDF and it just says "Your Student Aid Index (SAI) has been calculated" but doesn't actually show the number! I'm freaking out because my financial aid package depends on this and I need to choose between colleges by May 1st!

•That's unusual - the SAI should definitely appear on your SAR. Try these troubleshooting steps: 1) Clear your browser cache and cookies, 2) Try accessing from a different device, 3) Make sure you're viewing the correct aid year (2025-2026), and 4) Check if there are any verification requirements or information flags on your application that might be holding up the final SAI calculation.

For the 2025-2026 FAFSA, the Department of Education has been having major issues with the new system. Many students aren't seeing their SAI after submission because of these technical problems. Some possible solutions: 1. Call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243 to ask about your specific application. Warning: wait times are RIDICULOUS right now. 2. Check if your FAFSA is still showing "Processing" status - if so, just wait a few more days. 3. Contact your college's financial aid office directly and explain the situation. Most schools are aware of these FAFSA delays and have processes in place for this exact problem. Hope this helps!

•Thank you! I'll try calling tomorrow. Do you know if there's a better time of day to call when the wait isn't as bad?

•If you need to talk to an actual person at Federal Student Aid, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was on hold forever trying to figure out why my SAI wasn't showing up, then used their service and got through in like 15 minutes. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. Totally worth it because I found out there was a processing flag on my account that needed to be cleared.

Financial aid advisor here! For 2025-2026 FAFSA applications, there are a few important things to understand about the SAI (which replaced the old EFC): 1. Processing time is approximately 3-7 business days, longer during peak periods (which we're in right now). 2. Once processed, your SAI appears in three places: - On your Student Aid Report (SAR) - In the confirmation page when you log in and view your completed FAFSA - In the confirmation email (though sometimes this is abbreviated) 3. If you don't see your SAI after a week, there might be verification flags or missing information. The system won't show an SAI until all verification requirements are met. 4. For your scholarship deadline - contact your school's financial aid office immediately. Most institutions have protocols for FAFSA processing delays and can make accommodations if you explain the situation. Hope this helps!

•This is super helpful, thank you! I just checked again and now it says "Selected for Verification" - does that mean I need to submit more documents before getting my SAI?

Chloe Harris
•Yes, exactly. When selected for verification, your SAI won't be finalized until you complete the verification process. You'll need to submit additional documentation (usually tax information, household size verification, etc.) either through the studentaid.gov portal or directly to your school, depending on the specific verification requirements. Each school handles verification differently, so contact your college's financial aid office ASAP to find out exactly what they need from you.

the whole system is GARBAGE this year!!! i submitted in FEBRUARY and still don't have a final SAI because they keep asking for "verification" documents over and over even though I already sent everything twice!!! my brother applied last year and had his aid package in 2 weeks. now they're saying I might not get my financial aid package until JUNE when tuition deposits are due in MAY?? how am I supposed to decide where to go without knowing what I can afford??? the new FAFSA is a complete disaster!!

•OMG SAME!!! I'm so stressed about this! Did your verification requests come through email or did you have to check the portal to find out?

•you have to check the stupid portal every day because sometimes they don't even email you when there's a new request!! it's like they're trying to make us miss deadlines!!

Update for both @OP and others in this thread: The Dept of Education just announced yesterday that they're addressing the SAI display issues. If you submitted before April 10th and still don't see your SAI by tomorrow, they recommend reaccessing your Student Aid Report through the "View SAR" button on studentaid.gov as they've pushed a fix to show previously calculated SAIs that weren't displaying properly. For verification issues, they've also streamlined the process for certain verification groups.

btw make sure u know that the lower SAI = more aid. my cousin thought high numbers were better and was happy with his 18000 sai until i told him mine was 2500 and i qualified for way more grants lol

•Wait really? I thought higher was better too! Mine is 12600... is that bad? Will I get any aid at all?

Sofía Rodríguez
•@Freya Andersen 12600 isn t'necessarily bad "-" it just means your family s'expected contribution is higher. You can still qualify for federal loans and potentially some grants depending on your school s'cost of attendance. Many schools also have their own institutional aid that considers other factors beyond just SAI. Don t'panic! Once you get your actual financial aid packages from schools, you ll'see what aid you qualify for. The SAI is just one piece of the puzzle.

I'm dealing with this exact same issue! Just wanted to add that if you're still not seeing your SAI after trying all the suggestions here, you can also log into your college's student portal (if they have one) - sometimes schools receive your FAFSA data before it fully updates on studentaid.gov. My school's financial aid office told me they can see my SAI even when I couldn't see it myself. Also, for anyone worried about scholarship deadlines, definitely email your financial aid office explaining the FAFSA processing delays - most schools are being super understanding about this since it's such a widespread issue this year. They might be able to give you a temporary extension or work with preliminary information.

•This is really helpful advice! I didn't know colleges could see FAFSA data before we can see it on our end. I'm definitely going to check my college portal now and reach out to financial aid about the deadline. It's reassuring to know schools are being understanding about these delays - I was worried I'd automatically miss out on scholarships just because of technical issues that are completely out of my control. Thanks for sharing this tip!

I'm a college financial aid counselor and wanted to add some additional context that might help. The 2025-2026 FAFSA rollout has been particularly challenging due to the major system overhaul. Here are a few things to keep in mind: 1. **Timeline expectations**: While the normal processing time is 3-5 days, we're seeing 7-10 days regularly due to the high volume and system issues. 2. **Mobile app vs website**: The mobile app has had more display issues than the website version. If you submitted through the app, try logging into studentaid.gov through a desktop browser to check your SAI. 3. **For urgent deadlines**: Most colleges have received guidance from the Department of Education about these delays and have contingency plans. When you contact your financial aid office, mention specifically that you're dealing with the "2025-2026 FAFSA SAI display issue" - they'll know exactly what you're talking about. 4. **Verification flags**: If you're selected for verification, your SAI might show as "pending" or not display at all until verification is complete. Check your to-do list on the portal. Don't panic - virtually every school is dealing with these same issues with multiple students. The system will catch up!
