Parent signature missing from son's FAFSA - can't see his form on my FSA ID account
I'm completely stuck with my son's FAFSA application for 2025-2026. He completed his portion last week, but when I log into my FSA ID account to provide my parental signature, his application doesn't show up at all! I've double-checked that I'm using the correct FSA ID (the one I created specifically to be a parent contributor), tried different browsers, and even waited 24 hours thinking maybe there was a system delay. Nothing's working. When I click on "FAFSA Form" all I see is a button to start a new application, not his pending one. My son swears he entered my information correctly and added me as a contributor. Has anyone dealt with this parent signature issue before? How do I access my son's FAFSA to sign it?

•He says he did, but now I'm wondering if he made a mistake. Is there any way to check without starting over? His deadline for priority aid at his top school is coming up fast.

This is a super common issue and there are a few possibilities: 1. Your son may have entered your email incorrectly when adding you as a contributor. Even one character off will cause this problem. 2. He might have completed his portion but not actually submitted it to the point where it generates the parent invitation. 3. Your FSA ID might not be properly linked to your email/personal info. 4. Sometimes the FAFSA system has glitches where the parent invite email never arrives even when everything is entered correctly. First step: Ask your son to log in and check under "View parent/contributor information" to verify your email is listed correctly. If it is, he should resend the invitation. If you still don't see it after 24 hours, he'll need to call Federal Student Aid directly to troubleshoot.

•Thank you for these details! I just texted him to check the email he entered. I bet that's the issue - he tends to mix up my personal and work emails.

ugh the parent signature thing is THE WORST. took me 3 WEEKS to figure out for my kid. turns out she didnt actually submit the first part fully... she thought she did but missed a final confirmation screen i think? have him check if theres any "continue" or "submit" buttons left

•This happened to me too! My daughter thought she finished but there was a review/submit button at the very bottom of a long page that she missed. The FAFSA interface is NOT user friendly.

After helping 5 kids through college, I've seen every FAFSA issue imaginable. Here's what you need to do: 1. Have your son log into studentaid.gov 2. Click on FAFSA form 3. Select the 2025-2026 application 4. Go to "View and Edit Information" 5. Check the status at the top - it should say "Started" or "In Progress" 6. Click on "Parent/Contributor Information" section 7. Verify your email is correct 8. There should be a button to "Resend Invitation" - have him click that If the issue persists, the fastest resolution is calling FSA directly at 1-800-433-3243, but be prepared for a LONG wait. Your son can also try the live chat option on studentaid.gov, but in my experience, phone is more effective for this specific problem.

•This is incredibly helpful! I'll have him check those exact steps when he gets home from class today. Thank you for such detailed guidance - it's exactly what I needed to know.

Why is fafsa ALWAYS so complicated??? I swear they make it confusing on purpose! My daughter graduates next year and I'm STILL confused about the parent signature process every single year. Good luck!!

I had the same issue and found out there are actually two separate problems that could be happening: 1. If your son added you as a contributor but your email address was entered incorrectly, you won't receive the invitation email. The fix is for him to update your email in the system. 2. If your son correctly added you as a contributor but you can't see his FAFSA when you log in, it's likely because your FSA ID isn't properly linked to the parent role. This is a surprisingly common technical glitch in the system. For the second issue, I had to call the Federal Student Aid Information Center. I was initially frustrated because I couldn't get through after being on hold for over an hour. Then I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me through to an agent in about 10 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent was able to manually link my account to my child's FAFSA, and I could immediately see and sign it. Definitely worth trying if you continue having issues after verifying the email is correct.

•Thank you for this insight! We tried all the suggestions but still can't see his FAFSA. I'll look into Claimyr - at this point I'm willing to try anything to get this resolved before his priority deadline next week.

Update: Just wanted to circle back since I had this EXACT problem. The issue was that my son had entered my email correctly, but there's a difference between: 1. Adding a parent's information to the FAFSA (demographics, finances, etc.) 2. Actually inviting the parent as a contributor who can sign He thought by entering my information, I was automatically invited, but there's a separate step to send the parent invitation. When he went to the parent/contributor section, he saw he hadn't actually completed the invitation process. Check that your son has specifically sent the invitation, not just entered your info!

•You were right! This was exactly our issue. He had entered all my information but never actually sent the invitation. Once he did that, I immediately got the email and could access his FAFSA. Thank you to everyone for your help - it's signed and submitted now!
