How long to receive confirmation after creating FAFSA FSA ID? Waiting 10+ days with no response
I'm getting anxious about our FAFSA application timeline. My wife and I both created our FSA IDs about 10 days ago to be prepared for the 2025-2026 FAFSA launch, but neither of us has received any confirmation email or verification that our accounts are properly set up. The website said we'd get something within 3 days. Is this normal? Do we need to recreate our accounts or contact someone? Our daughter is counting on us having everything ready for her first application, and I'm worried we're already behind schedule. Has anyone else experienced this kind of delay with FSA ID confirmation?

The same thing happened to me! It took over 2 weeks to get any confirmation back when I made mine. The system is SO SLOW this year with all the changes

•Thanks for sharing. Did you do anything to speed it up or just wait it out?

This is actually fairly common right now. The FSA ID verification process can take anywhere from 1-14 days, especially if there's any discrepancy between the information you entered and what's on file with the Social Security Administration. A few things to check: 1. Make sure the email addresses you used are correct and check spam folders 2. Verify you can log into studentaid.gov with your FSA IDs even without confirmation 3. If you can log in, your accounts are probably fine regardless of confirmation email The important thing is being able to access the system when the application period opens. The confirmation email is secondary as long as your accounts work.

•Thank you for the detailed response! We can actually log in to the accounts, so maybe that means we're good to go? I was just worried because the site specifically mentioned we'd get confirmation within 3 days.

•If you can log in, you're all set! The confirmation email is just a formality. The system is likely backed up with all the preparations for the new FAFSA format. Just make sure both you and your wife can access your accounts independently since you'll both need to provide information for your daughter's application.

•That's reassuring to hear! Did you run into any issues later in the process?

The FSA ID system has been incredibly overloaded with the transition to the new FAFSA. Your accounts are probably fine if you can log in, but I'd double-check that you've verified your email addresses within the system itself. When you log in, go to your profile settings and see if it shows your email as verified. If not, there should be an option to resend the verification email. Also, make sure you're using the correct website: studentaid.gov. There are unfortunately some scam sites that look similar but aren't the official site.

•I just checked and you're right - my email shows as unverified in the system! I requested a new verification email and got it within minutes. My wife's actually shows as verified despite her never receiving a confirmation. Thanks for pointing this out!

This whole FAFSA system is a NIGHTMARE this year!!! I created my FSA ID in September and STILL haven't gotten the confirmation email they promised. Called them 5 times and got disconnected every single time. This is ridiculous when our kids' college funding depends on this broken system!!

•Sorry you've had such a frustrating experience. Have you been able to log in to your account despite not getting the confirmation email?

•Yes I can log in but I'm terrified something will go wrong when we actually submit the FAFSA since the system seems so buggy. Every time I call for reassurance I waste HOURS on hold only to get disconnected!

I work at a college financial aid office and we're seeing this a lot. The FSA ID system is functional but the notification system is experiencing delays. If you and your wife can log in to studentaid.gov with your usernames and passwords, your FSA IDs are working properly. The email confirmation is just a notification, not a necessary step for functionality. One thing to check: make sure both of you have set up your challenge questions and linked your phone numbers in your FSA ID profiles. That way, if there's any issue later, you have multiple ways to recover access.

•That's really helpful information, thank you! We do have challenge questions set up, but I'll double-check about the phone numbers. Do you know if there's any way to verify that our accounts are fully ready for when we need to provide parent information on our daughter's application?

•Good question! To make sure your accounts are fully ready, log in to studentaid.gov and look for the "My Aid" section. If you can see that, your account is properly linked to your financial data. Also, make sure you both have your Social Security Numbers correctly listed in your profiles and verified. That's the most common issue we see with parent accounts when it comes time to actually submit the FAFSA.

Have you tried calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center? They can confirm if your FSA IDs are properly set up. I was in the same situation last month but got tired of waiting and called them. Honestly though, getting through was a nightmare until I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They hold your place in the phone queue and call you back when an agent is available. Saved me hours of waiting on hold! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ When I finally spoke to an agent, they confirmed my FSA ID was actually fine despite never getting the email confirmation. Apparently this is happening to lots of people with the system changes.

•That's a great suggestion - I hadn't thought about calling to confirm. I'll check out that service since I really don't have hours to spend on hold. Did they charge you a lot for it?

•It wasn't expensive considering the time it saved me. I was able to keep working while waiting for their callback instead of being stuck on hold for literally hours. The agent confirmed everything was fine with my account and explained that the email system is separate from the actual FSA ID verification process.

you can also try logging in with your FSA ID at the social security administration website - if it works there then your definitely verified with SSA which is the main holdup for most people

•That's a clever idea - I didn't know you could use the FSA ID on the SSA website. I'll try that today, thanks!

Did anyone else notice they made the FSA IDs WAY more complicated this year?? My son's high school counselor said they completely redesigned the system and tons of parents are having problems. Apparently the new FAFSA is supposed to be 'simpler' but everything about it seems harder lol

•It does seem unnecessarily complicated! I was surprised by all the verification steps. Our daughter's counselor mentioned the application itself is shorter but the setup process is more involved.

Just to give you some peace of mind: I've been helping families with FAFSA for years, and I can tell you the actual FSA ID system is working correctly even when the communication systems aren't. As long as you and your wife can: 1. Log in to studentaid.gov 2. See your profile information 3. Access your settings Then your FSA IDs are ready for FAFSA completion. The confirmation emails are experiencing delays due to system overload, but this won't affect your ability to complete the FAFSA for your daughter. One last tip: make sure to write down your FSA ID usernames and passwords somewhere secure. You'll need them again next year and for all four years of your daughter's college education.

•Thank you for the reassurance! We can do all three of those things, so it sounds like we're in good shape. I've got our login information stored safely - definitely don't want to go through this setup process again next year if we can avoid it!
