How long should FAFSA data take to reach NJ FAMS for TAG grants?

I submitted my FAFSA application almost a month ago and got confirmation that it was processed successfully (received my SAI score and everything). But when I check the NJ FAMS website, there's still no indication they've received my FAFSA data for the TAG grant. Is this normal for New Jersey? How long should I expect to wait before my FAFSA info shows up in the NJ FAMS system? Starting to get worried since I heard some TAG funds are first-come-first-served. Anyone from NJ dealt with this recently?

In my experience working with students, FAFSA data usually transfers to NJ FAMS within 2-3 weeks, but this application cycle has been especially slow. Make sure you listed at least one NJ school on your FAFSA and that your NJ state residency information is correct. If it's been more than 4 weeks, I'd recommend contacting HESAA directly about your TAG grant status.

Thanks for the info! Yes, I listed three NJ schools and I've been a resident here for 10 years. It's been exactly 26 days since my FAFSA was processed. I'll try calling HESAA tomorrow.

Wow, 6 weeks? That's longer than I expected. Did your daughters still receive their full TAG grant amount despite the delay?

I'm having the EXACT same issue!! Submitted FAFSA early February, got my SAI within a week, but NOTHING on NJ FAMS yet!! Called HESAA three times but can't get through - just endless hold music then disconnection. So frustrating! Has anyone actually managed to speak with someone there??

Try using Claimyr to get through to HESAA faster. It helped me reach a live agent at Federal Student Aid when I had issues with my FAFSA verification, and they can connect you to state agencies too. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. Saved me hours of frustration when my TAG grant wasn't processing correctly.

Thanks for the recommendation! Never heard of that service before but I'm desperate at this point. I'll check it out - anything is better than being on hold for hours!

The data transfer from FAFSA to NJ FAMS typically takes 2-4 weeks under normal conditions. However, this year's processing is experiencing delays due to the FAFSA Simplification Act implementation. A few important points: 1. Verify your FAFSA shows "processed" not just "submitted" 2. Confirm your NJ state residency is properly indicated 3. Check that your NJFAMS account is linked to your correct FAFSA information 4. Ensure at least one NJ institution is listed on your FAFSA If it's been over 30 days, I recommend contacting HESAA at 609-584-4480 during business hours. They can manually check if your data is in their system but hasn't appeared on your portal yet.

This is really helpful, thank you! Yes, my FAFSA definitely shows as "processed" with a completed SAI score. I'll wait a few more days to hit the 30-day mark and then try calling HESAA at that number.

The whole system is BROKEN!!! I applied in January and my daughter's info JUST showed up in NJFAMS this week. When I finally got someone on the phone they acted like this was NORMAL?!? Meanwhile her friends who applied later are already getting award letters. Makes NO SENSE. The incompetence is unbelievable!!

Totally agree. The inconsistency is maddening. My son applied early and got processed within 2 weeks, but my daughter's application from the same day is still pending after 5 weeks. Same household, same information. How does that make any sense?

Anyone else notice that NJFAMS sometimes updates on weekends? My FAFSA data suddenly appeared on a Sunday morning after waiting for weeks. Maybe check again in a few days - it might just show up without warning.

Really? That's interesting! I've only been checking on weekdays during business hours. I'll start checking on weekends too. Thanks for the tip!

Just a follow-up: have you verified that your NJFAMS record has your correct Social Security Number matching your FAFSA? Sometimes the systems don't link properly if there's even a single digit mismatch. This is a common issue when data isn't appearing despite being processed.

I double-checked and yes, the SSN is correct in both systems. I created my NJFAMS account last year and used it successfully for the previous cycle, so I don't think that's the issue. But good point - I should verify all my personal info matches across both systems.

btw did u set up njfams account before doing fafsa? my nephew had problem where he did fafsa first then made njfams later and they never connected right. had to call to fix it

I actually set up my NJFAMS account last year for my first year of college, so it was already established before I submitted this year's FAFSA. But that's good to know for others who might be reading this thread!

UPDATE: My FAFSA data FINALLY appeared in NJFAMS today - after 34 days! No explanation, no email notification, it just showed up. So for anyone reading this, it might take over a month despite what their website claims about "2-3 weeks processing time.

That's a relief to hear! Gives me hope mine will show up soon too. Did your TAG award amount also appear or just the confirmation that they received your data?

Just confirmation that they received the data. The actual TAG amount isn't showing yet - says "pending review" but at least it's progress!

I'm in a similar situation! Submitted my FAFSA in early February and it's been processed for over 3 weeks now, but still nothing showing up in NJFAMS for my TAG grant. Reading through these responses is actually reassuring - sounds like delays of 4-6 weeks aren't uncommon this year. I'm going to wait until I hit the 30-day mark like Hunter suggested before calling HESAA. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it's helpful to know I'm not the only one dealing with this frustrating wait!

Same here! I'm at about 3.5 weeks since my FAFSA was processed and getting anxious about the TAG funding. It's really helpful to see others sharing their timelines - makes me feel less like I did something wrong. The fact that Caleb just got his data to appear after 34 days gives me hope mine will show up soon too. I'll definitely follow the advice about waiting until 30 days before calling HESAA. Thanks for posting this - solidarity in the waiting game!

I'm going through the exact same thing! Filed my FAFSA in mid-February, got my SAI confirmation within days, but my NJFAMS portal is still completely blank for TAG eligibility. It's been about 4 weeks now and I was starting to panic thinking I messed something up. Reading everyone's experiences here is actually really comforting - seems like 4-6 week delays are pretty normal this cycle. I had no idea the FAFSA Simplification Act was causing all these processing delays. Going to follow the advice here and wait until I hit the 30-day processed mark before calling HESAA. Really appreciate everyone sharing their timelines and tips!

I'm in the same boat as everyone here! Just passed the 3-week mark since my FAFSA was processed and still radio silence from NJFAMS on my TAG status. It's honestly such a relief to find this thread and realize this isn't just me - I was convinced I'd somehow messed up my application. The timeline everyone's sharing (4-6 weeks seems to be the new normal) is really helpful to set expectations. I'm definitely going to take the advice about waiting until 30 days before trying to call HESAA, especially after hearing about Caleb's experience with the endless hold times. Thanks to everyone for sharing - this community support makes the waiting so much more bearable!

I'm a new community member dealing with this exact issue! Submitted my FAFSA in late February, got processed confirmation about 3 weeks ago, but my NJFAMS portal is still showing no TAG information. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea these 4-6 week delays were so common this year due to the FAFSA Simplification Act changes. It's honestly such a relief to know I'm not alone in this frustrating waiting period! I'm going to follow the advice here about waiting until the 30-day processed mark before contacting HESAA, and I'll definitely start checking my NJFAMS account on weekends too after Jade's tip about weekend updates. Thanks to everyone for sharing your timelines and experiences - this community support makes the stress much more manageable!

I submitted my FAFSA around the same time as you and I'm at about the 3-week mark too. This thread has been a lifesaver for understanding that these extended wait times are unfortunately normal this year. I'm planning to follow everyone's advice about waiting until 30 days before calling, and I'll definitely try checking on weekends now! I'm new to this community and experiencing the exact same frustrating situation! Filed my FAFSA in early March, received my SAI confirmation about 2 weeks ago, but my NJFAMS portal is completely empty regarding my TAG grant status. I was really starting to worry that I had made some mistake in my application, but reading through everyone's experiences here has been such a huge relief! It's clear that these 4-6 week processing delays are unfortunately the new normal this year due to the FAFSA Simplification Act implementation. I really appreciate all the practical advice shared here - especially the tip about checking NJFAMS on weekends (thanks Jade!), waiting until the 30-day processed mark before calling HESAA, and using that Claimyr service to potentially get through phone queues faster. It's so helpful to have realistic timelines from people who've actually been through this process. Caleb's update about his data finally appearing after 34 days gives me hope that mine will show up soon too. Thank you all for creating such a supportive space - it makes this stressful waiting period so much more manageable knowing we're all in this together!
