Filed FAFSA early in Maryland but schools can't access it - anyone else having this issue?

So frustrated right now! I completed my daughter's FAFSA on November 16th, 2025 (got that confirmation email and SAI score already). But the THREE schools she applied to are all saying they can't see her application in their systems. I called the financial aid office at her top choice yesterday, and they said there's some kind of technical glitch specifically affecting Maryland early filers and they have to manually pull the information from the federal database. Has anyone else run into this? The financial aid counselor mentioned it's affecting lots of Maryland students who filed before December 1st. I was trying to be proactive and now I'm worried this will delay her aid package! Anyone know how long the manual pull process takes?

YES! Having the same exact problem with my son's applications. We're in Baltimore County, filed on November 19th, got our SAI right away, but none of his schools can find his FAFSA data. I called two schools and got different stories - one said it's a Maryland state system issue, the other blamed federal student aid. So annoying when you're trying to do everything right!

Did either school give you any timeline for when they might be able to access the data? I'm getting really anxious about missing priority deadlines for institutional scholarships.

omg this happened to my cousin too shes in frederick... filed in november and schools couldnt see anything. took like 3 weeks to fix i think? the whole system is so broken lol

Three weeks?! That's ridiculous. Did she have to do anything special to get it fixed or did it just eventually start working?

I work in financial aid at a college in Pennsylvania, and we're seeing this issue with students from several states, not just Maryland. It appears to be related to the new FAFSA system and how it interfaces with state education databases. For anyone experiencing this issue: 1. Make sure you have your FAFSA confirmation number handy 2. Contact each school's financial aid office directly 3. Ask them specifically to manually retrieve your FAFSA data using your confirmation number 4. Request confirmation when they've successfully accessed your information This won't negatively impact your aid eligibility or priority deadlines as long as you can prove you submitted before any cutoff dates. Most schools are well aware of the issue and making accommodations.

Thank you so much for this information! I have the confirmation email with the number, so I'll call each school tomorrow. Do you know if the schools have to do something special on their end? The financial aid counselor I spoke with made it sound like they needed to do some kind of system override.

Yes, schools do need to use a special process to manually import these records. It's not particularly complicated, but it is time-consuming since each record must be handled individually. Some financial aid offices may be dealing with hundreds of these cases, which explains the delay. Most importantly, document all communications with the schools and keep proof of your original submission date. If you encounter any issues with priority deadlines, reference those communications.

This FAFSA system is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE!! We filed in October in Maryland and NONE of my daughter's SIX schools could see her application! Called FSA multiple times and got disconnected or waited 2+ hours!! Finally reached someone who said "just wait" - HELPFUL RIGHT?!? My daughter nearly lost a $14,000 scholarship because of this!! The FAFSA overhaul was supposed to make things EASIER not create MORE PROBLEMS!! 😡😡😡

Oh no, that's terrible about almost losing the scholarship! Were you able to get it resolved? Did the school make an exception?

We had to get the dean of financial aid involved and send screenshots of our confirmation email, SAI score notification, and call logs trying to reach FSA. They eventually extended her deadline but it was WEEKS of stress we didn't need during senior year. The schools are being understanding but the federal system is a disaster.

I've been dealing with this exact issue but found a workaround that might help others. After struggling with the same Maryland early filing glitch, I stumbled across this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to a live FSA agent in about 15 minutes instead of hours on hold. The agent was able to manually flag our application for immediate transmission to the schools we selected. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ showing how it works. It bypasses the hold time somehow. Within 48 hours after speaking with the FSA agent, all three schools confirmed they could see my son's FAFSA data. Worth considering if you're in a time crunch with deadlines approaching.

Thank you for sharing this! I've been trying to call FSA for two days and keep getting the "call volume too high" message. I'll check out that service - at this point I'm willing to try anything to get this resolved before deadlines hit.

I recommend taking three immediate steps: 1. Email each school's financial aid office with your FAFSA confirmation number, submission date, and SAI score. Request written confirmation that they've noted your early submission date in their system. 2. Ask the schools to verify they've attempted the manual data pull from FSA's Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) database. Some schools don't know they need to use the special retrieval tool for affected applications. 3. Document everything in writing. If you only made phone calls previously, follow up with emails summarizing those conversations. This Maryland issue affects approximately 8,200 early filers according to data shared during last week's financial aid administrator conference. It's a known issue and shouldn't affect your aid eligibility if properly documented.

Thank you for these specific steps! I didn't realize there were that many of us affected in Maryland. I'll definitely send emails with all that information to create a paper trail. Really appreciate the advice.

Thanks for confirming the specific number affected. Just called my son's top choice again and mentioned the ISIR database specifically, and suddenly they knew exactly what I was talking about! Follow this advice everyone - using the right terminology makes a difference.

When I had FAFSA problems last year I just went to the school financial aid office in person and they fixed everything right there while I waited. Sometimes u gotta show up in person to get stuff done js

That's a good point. One of the schools is about an hour away, so I could definitely do that if the calls and emails don't work. The other two are out of state though, so hopefully the remote options work for those.

i dont understand why they always gotta make things so complicated!!! my brother had to resubmit his whole fafsa last year because of some glitch, ended up getting less money because he missed the priority deadline. the financial aid system is rigged against regular people i swear

UPDATE: Just wanted to share that I followed the advice from this thread and it worked! I emailed all three schools with our confirmation number and SAI score. Two already responded confirming they've manually pulled the FAFSA data. I also used that Claimyr service someone mentioned to reach FSA directly, and they confirmed it was a system interface issue between the federal database and certain state systems. They flagged our application for immediate transmission to schools. Thanks everyone for your help - feeling much less stressed now!

Great news! This is exactly how the process should work. For anyone else reading this thread later, this is a perfect example of being proactive and persistent without being panicked. Document everything, communicate clearly, and use the proper channels. Glad it worked out for you!

Thanks for the update! I'm going to try the same approach. Did you have to pay anything to use that service to reach FSA?

Yes, there was a fee, but at this point it was worth it to get someone on the phone who could actually help. After spending hours trying to call directly and getting nowhere, I just needed to get it resolved before deadlines hit.
