FAFSA correction sent but some schools haven't received it after a month - normal or problem?

So frustrated right now! We submitted our initial FAFSA back in January, but realized we were missing a parent signature. We corrected this on March 15th and our FAFSA finally processed on 4/12. Here's what's weird - about 5 of my daughter's schools have sent financial aid packages already, but 2 schools (her top choices of course!) are still showing they haven't received the corrected FAFSA. It's been almost a month since processing! Is this normal for some schools to get the corrections right away while others are still waiting? I'm worried there might be some technical issue since these are her dream schools and their financial aid deadlines are coming up soon. I've tried checking the studentaid.gov site but it just shows "processed" with no details about which schools received it. Should I be calling these two schools directly or is this just typical FAFSA delays?

This happens more often than you'd think! Schools receive FAFSA data on different schedules. Some schools have automated systems that pull FAFSA data daily, while others only process updates weekly or even bi-weekly. If it's been less than 4 weeks, I wouldn't worry too much yet. However, since these are your daughter's top choices and deadlines are approaching, I would recommend: 1. Call each school's financial aid office directly to confirm if they've received the corrected FAFSA 2. Ask if there's any additional documentation they need 3. Confirm their specific deadline for financial aid consideration It's always better to be proactive with your daughter's top choice schools!

Thank you! I'll call tomorrow morning. Do you think I need to have her FSA ID and all her info ready when I call, or would they just need her name and birthdate to check?

That's good to know it's not just us having this problem! I'll definitely call tomorrow. Did you find you had to send anything additional when you called?

Different schools have different processing timelines. In my experience working with students on financial aid, I've seen some schools take up to 6 weeks to process FAFSA corrections, while others do it within days. It depends on their internal systems and workload. Here's what I suggest: 1. Check if these schools require the CSS Profile in addition to FAFSA (many selective colleges do) 2. Contact the financial aid offices directly - explain the situation and ask if they can manually check for your corrected FAFSA 3. Ask if they can place a note in your daughter's file that the correction was submitted on time 4. Verify if they need any additional verification documents Don't wait any longer since you mentioned deadlines are approaching. Most schools are understanding if you're proactive about communication.

This!! So many ppl forget about the CSS Profile and then wonder why their fin aid is delayed. My daughter's top school required BOTH and it was super confusing.

I had to deal with this EXACT problem last year and was going crazy waiting for schools to get my son's corrected FAFSA. What FINALLY worked was using Claimyr to get through to a FAFSA agent. I had been trying to call for days but couldn't get through. With Claimyr, I connected to an agent in about 10 minutes who confirmed the corrections were processed correctly and gave me documentation I could forward to the schools. You can see how it works at claimyr.com or check out their demo at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The FAFSA agent was able to send some kind of notification to the schools that hadn't received our correction yet. Within 48 hours, all the missing schools had our updated FAFSA!

does this actually work? i've been trying to get through to fafsa for 2 weeks about my verification issue 😭

Another thing to consider - make sure the school codes were correctly listed on your FAFSA. Sometimes during corrections, school codes can accidentally get removed. Log back into studentaid.gov and verify all the intended schools are still listed. If any are missing, you'll need to add them back through the correction process.

I just double-checked and all the school codes are definitely there. That's what makes this so confusing! Some schools got it right away and others nothing after a month.

THE FAFSA SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BROKEN THIS YEAR!! Your not alone, literally thousands of families dealing with this exact problem. My daughter applied to 8 schools and 3 of them STILL haven't received her FAFSA data even though it processed in March!!! I've called and emailed and gotten nowhere. The financial aid officers just blame the new FAFSA rollout and say there's nothing they can do but wait. Meanwhile deadlines for accepting offers are coming up and we STILL don't have all her aid packages to compare. It's completely RIDICULOUS that they implemented a new system without proper testing!!!!

this is so true! the whole system is a mess this year. my neighbor works in financial aid at the community college and she says they're overwhelmed with problems

I'm sorry you're dealing with this too! Have you tried calling the Federal Student Aid office directly? I'm wondering if they can help on their end somehow.

We had a similar issue with my son's FAFSA this year. One thing to check - are you sure both parents (if applicable) completed their part of the signature process? We thought we had fixed everything but didn't realize BOTH parents needed to sign separately with their own FSA IDs. One parent had signed but not the other, so it looked corrected on our end but wasn't fully processed.

Yes, we definitely got both parent signatures this time - the status shows as fully processed on 4/12. That's why it's so confusing that some schools received it and others didn't!

If you've verified the school codes are correct and the FAFSA is showing as processed, I recommend taking these steps: 1. Email each school's financial aid office with your daughter's name, DOB, and FAFSA confirmation number 2. Attach a screenshot from studentaid.gov showing the processed date and the list of schools 3. Request they manually check for the updated FAFSA in their system 4. Ask for confirmation when they've received it This creates a paper trail and often prompts financial aid offices to investigate more thoroughly than they might with just a phone call.

This is really helpful advice - thank you! I'll do exactly this after I call tomorrow. The screenshot is a great idea since it shows all her schools are listed.

anyone know if colleges accept aid appeals this late? my fafsa also got delayed and now the package i got isn't enough but idk if its too late to appeal

0 coins

Most schools accept appeals throughout the year, especially if there are special circumstances or if information has changed since you submitted the FAFSA. Contact the financial aid office directly about their appeal process - it's usually just a form and some supporting documentation.

Based on what you've shared, this does sound like normal processing delays rather than something wrong with your FAFSA. The 2023-2024 FAFSA rollout has been particularly challenging with significant delays. In my experience working with families this year: - Some schools are taking 4-6 weeks to process corrected FAFSAs - Many schools are extending their financial aid deadlines in recognition of these delays - Financial aid offices are extremely overwhelmed with the backlog I still recommend calling, but approach the conversation with understanding that the staff are likely doing their best under difficult circumstances. Ask if they've extended deadlines due to FAFSA delays, and if they have a process for holding your daughter's place until the corrected FAFSA arrives.

Thank you for the reassurance! I'll definitely be understanding when I call. It helps knowing this is happening to lots of families and not just us.
