FAFSA shows 'processed' date but no SAI score yet - normal waiting time?
My daughter's FAFSA application says 'processed 12/11/2024' but I don't see any SAI score or other information. It's been almost a week now. I'm used to the old EFC system where you got a number right away. Is there another step we're missing? Do I need to click somewhere else to see her results? Or is there a typical waiting period between 'processed' and getting the actual SAI score? This is my first time dealing with the new FAFSA system and I'm completely lost! Any advice appreciated.

•Thanks for sharing your experience. 2 weeks sounds like forever when we're trying to make college decisions! Did you get an email notification when the SAI was finally available?

The new FAFSA processing timeline is definitely different from the old EFC system. After your application shows as "processed," there are a few additional steps before your SAI (Student Aid Index) becomes visible: 1. The Department of Education typically takes 3-10 business days to fully process your information 2. Then your SAI score becomes visible on the studentaid.gov dashboard 3. Your information is simultaneously sent to the schools you listed on your FAFSA Check your student's account dashboard (not just the application status page). Look for a section called "FAFSA Status" or "Aid Summary." If you don't see it there within 10 business days, you might want to contact Federal Student Aid directly.

•Thank you for that detailed explanation! I'll check those specific sections. I didn't realize there was an additional processing time after the "processed" status. This makes me feel better that we haven't done something wrong.

NOBODY TELLS U BUT THE NEW FAFSA IS TERRIBLE!!!!! They say "simplified" but its actually just confusing and slow. Last year my daughter got her EFC number right away but this year we've been waiting 3 weeks after "processed" and still nothing. Called 4 times and keep getting disconnected. Whole system is broken!!!!

•This has been a pretty common issue since they updated the system. From what I understand, the processing delays are happening because they're handling a much higher verification load. About 35% of applications are getting flagged for additional review before the SAI is released, compared to only 18% in previous years. It's frustrating, but at least there's a reason behind it.

I actually found a solution for this! After my son's FAFSA said "processed" but we couldn't see his SAI for almost two weeks, I discovered you need to log in to the student's account (not the parent account) and look under "Aid Summary." For some reason, the SAI score was visible there but not on the main dashboard. Worth checking if you haven't already!

•I didn't think to check her account separately! I've been logging in with my parent account. I'll have her check her student account tonight. Thanks for the tip!

I had the same issue last month with my son's application. After the "processed" status, I couldn't get through to anyone at Federal Student Aid to find out where his SAI was. After 6 failed calls and hours on hold, I tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. They got me connected to a person at FSA in about 20 minutes who explained that our application was flagged for a routine contributor information review, which was causing the delay. You can see how the service works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent was able to tell me exactly what was causing the delay and when we could expect to see the SAI. Saved me a lot of stress!

Financial aid counselor here - just to clarify some timeline expectations for the 2025-2026 FAFSA cycle: - "Processed" status means your application was received and initial checks were completed - SAI (Student Aid Index) calculation typically takes 3-10 business days after "processed" status appears - Schools don't receive your information until the SAI is calculated - If your application is selected for verification (about 35% are), the SAI will be delayed until that process is complete If you're approaching the 10 business day mark, I'd recommend contacting Federal Student Aid directly. Also make sure to check both the student and parent portals, as sometimes the information appears in one but not the other due to access permission differences.

•WHY doesn't the website just SAY THIS?? Would save everyone so much stress!! The whole point of the new system was supposed to be making things clearer!!!

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your helpful advice! I had my daughter log into her student account and the SAI was actually there! It wasn't showing in my parent portal for some reason. For anyone else with this issue - definitely check both accounts. I appreciate all your help!

•That's great news! This seems to be a common issue with the parent/student portal syncing. Glad you found your SAI and can move forward with the college financial planning process!
